Awww, what wonderful news & congrats to Livi (and the whole family) - just saw a picture too (and she's beautiful). [:)]
I was actually in Labor & Delivery for clinicals last weekend and ended up seeing a C-section for the first time. I told the neonatal nurse practitioner, standing to the side waiting, that it was my first time watching one. She joked and said she'd catch me if I started to faint, which I didn't. The experience makes me consider working in the area as a nurse when I graduate. [:)] It's the neatest experience welcoming a new baby into the world. [yes] |
I always loved helping with C-Sections at the vet's office. Do you have to give human infants the anesthesia reversal agent?
Anyway, I have to head to bed because I have to teach in the morning. Goodnight guys! |
Anesthesia reversal agent? Nope - healthy baby, just had to suck the mucous stuff out of the airway & she started cry, which help to open up the lungs. The mom was awake during the procedure; however, she was given a spinal block (like an epidural) to numb the pain. Now, if the mother was on a pain medication (an opioid, like Demerol) & the infant's respirations are low due, etc., then there is an antidote for that called Narcan.
