Avatar dressing habits

Ok, so I have a few quirks when it comes to dressing my avie. I don't suffer from the OCD everything-must-match syndrome that some do. But I have my own little habits, and I'm interested what other people's are too.

My first is a tendency to treat my avie like a real person, and if it's cold outside, I'll put more clothes on her, don't want her getting chilly

Also, I'll make sure she's got socks or stockings on under her boots, as boots with bare feet are nasty!

And she'll nearly always have pretty coloured undies on, even if no-one's going to see them.

Another habit I like to indulge in is to see just how many items I can get on without them being visible and spoiling the outfit. This is an amusing pasttime when I'm wrapping her up against the cold especially, because what can seem like a fairly skimpy outfit, could in actual fact consist of up to 5 different layers of items
Sexy boots with stockings and 2 pairs of socks on underneath them >< and so on..

So does anyone else have any interesting little avie dressing habits that they want to share? Or am I just a freak? :ninja:

Tre Le Coco 10-15-2008 12:05 PM

your just a freak :P

i guess black and red, all the same shade, otherwise :talk2hand:

but then again i can't really be in this, cos i can easily make whatever i want xD

Paprika 10-15-2008 02:38 PM

I tend to try and match, sometimes i go with a theme XD

If you look at my quest thread i have a Spork Warrior! outfit posted and i cant wait to put it on...i generally make an outfit in MAC that i think looks decent and then i end up adding or taking away about half the outfit by the time i get to wearing it XD;

Dunno why, i just like to match @[email protected]

I made an outfit for my avvie on subeta and she looks more or less realistic: (if its okay to show this here)

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1.../contest-2.png

Its purdy(I'm not full of myself i swear!). I always love green/brown together and i will have to attempt to make an outfit that revolves around those colors here too *-*

ChibiTotoro222 10-15-2008 03:31 PM

Jelly is silly. xD

I just try to match colorwise. :B
And....I usually have at least one holdable. : D

My avvy is always pretty skanky. She shows her tummy pretty much 70 percent of the time and always wears short skirts. xD;
Which is a little strange since I never show any tummy or cleavage and rarely wear skirts. 8D

jellysundae 10-15-2008 03:52 PM

My fears are being confirmed by people who have and still do spend a lot of time around me, I'm just not normal ><

clock 10-15-2008 05:41 PM

Haha, I usually attempt to cover every part of skin. It sort of bothers me when the legs, stomach, or arms are showing, unless there's a good reason for them showing. So I always layer up, even when it's hot outside. x3

Sizzla 10-15-2008 07:29 PM

Wow jelly, I had no idea you dressed so meticulously. O_O XP

I don't have any clothing quirks that I can think of. I certainly don't dress for the weather and I hardly ever put other underwear on besides the basic stuff. I just try to match pretty much.

Kalium 10-15-2008 07:44 PM

Well, my habit is that I have a few "set" outfits whose components I'm very reluctant to change. I set my dream avis and quests accordingly and only rarely will I equip two items from different "sets" at the same time. And if I decide that I want to make a new set, I usually start off with an item that I rarely see on others. I don't care if my avatar looks like so many others, but still...

Winterwolfgoddess 10-15-2008 08:01 PM

My avatars are usually based around a theme, and I refuse to make them skimpy, no matter the weather. I do not really care about using more than two items from one set, so I have plenty of avatars that consist many items from one set. Matching isn't my biggest priority, but I get called out for it sometimes when I don't o.o;; xD So I tend to make them match. Balance and flow are important to me though. xD

vadeil 10-15-2008 08:51 PM

well i like to hang out in the avi chat and rate people... i feel kinda out of place and rude if i don't have a nice avi when rating some one.

i like layers... love layers but the layers must look nice. my strong point is working with black my weak color is blue. i love green and gold. gold is another strong point for me.

when it comes to an avi i want it to overall look nice and hopefully flow.

Luenola Marxiel 10-15-2008 09:53 PM

I like experimenting with the MAC and creating outfits. Then if I find one I really like, I set about putting it together here. That usually means I look at the item information and if the bill comes out extravagant, I start looking for ways to achieve the same look with less expensive or fewer items (a different top of the same colour, no stockings if it can't be seen under the pants and shoes, etc). It still ends up with me going on a shopping spree usually though. Or if it's something I don't need to own permanently, I borrow it.

Oh, and Jelly, abnormal is a quality. It's always nice to be unique. :P

...I just realized my quirk: I always need to have some kind of metal on, be it buckles, spikes/studs, jewellery or weapons.

P/S: Speaking of the MAC, it needs to be updated with all the new items and hairstyles. XD"

Ithir 10-15-2008 09:58 PM

If it helps, I spent like, 30 minutes trying to make an outfit, then gave up and made myself male so I could show off the six pack. xP

But, no OCD ness.

Rusalka 10-15-2008 11:23 PM

Hn.. I can't say I notice any quirks, but I'm sure I have them.

Well I do find that I'll start an avi with an item that I want to use, or I'll have a look that I want to go for and then in the middle it entirely changes. The item I want to use disappears and is replaced or just removed entirely. I sometimes go through five outfits at a time until I find something I like.

And... the moment I see someone else's outfit that I like what I liked about my own deflates and sometimes that sends me trying on different outfits.

CK 10-16-2008 01:28 AM

LOL. Jelly. Yeah, I think you're one of the few people who would bother putting socks or undies on an avatar if those items weren't going to be seen. :3 (But you're not the only person I've heard mention that they do this. I just can't remember who else admitted to doing that.)

For me, well... everyone knows I resist changing my hair color or style....

I do tend to dress more towards what I'm feeling at the time I'm making my avatar. So if I'm a little chilly (even during the summer), I don't mind adding more clothing layers on her. And if I'm overheated, the clothing layers come off. But I try not to "over" or "under dress" for the season. I'm not going to throw on winter-type items during the summer or dress in a skimpy outfit during the winter, even if I'm cold (in the summer) or super hot (in the winter).

And since I have this vague idea in the back of my mind that "CK" as a 'character' is sort of a magical girl/sorceress, I rarely dress my avatar in casual clothes. Or, when I do, it only lasts a few days at most before I dress her in something more fitting for that sort of character. XD;

As for color scheme... I tend to prefer to dress in cool colors (blue, purple, green) with white, gold or black accents. Though I wear a lot of red/black/white or red/black/gold as those items are the correct style of what I want, even if it's not in the color shades that I want. (Maybe we can get the Chinese Dress in some cool-color recolors...)

Zombie Meat Pie 10-16-2008 01:34 AM

I tend to fall for the pre-made outfits. I like to have some what of a color scheme going on. Sometimes I get one item that I have to have all the time.

Mama Juru 10-16-2008 03:40 AM

I'm just a freak and swing from looking freaky, like now, or looking perfectly normal.

Luenola Marxiel 10-16-2008 03:45 AM

Juru, I want to go legless floaty sometime too... :(

Jack MacGaven 10-16-2008 08:41 AM

I need to wear all black/red/white. That's just me. And I always need a button shirt with a vest or anything expensive looking like that.

Luenola Marxiel 10-16-2008 08:49 AM

*points at Jack's sig* CARAMELLDANSEN! 8D!

Iro 10-16-2008 11:22 AM

Stay on topic, yumi. *cough*

Well, for me, the moment I am on in an avatar community, I have a tendency to go for red, black, silver and gold items more often than not. Even if I don't wear them, I do buy them to keep if I like them well enough. As for dressing up, because of my colour bias in obtaining items, my avatars usually skew towards those mentioned colours as well.

That is why my current avatar seldom changes. I like the colour balance and avatar as it is, and if I try to change it to something else, I would revert back eventually.

I also have a habit for going for the more fantasy and classic type look compared to casual. I don't usually stick to casual-styled avatars. This might have partly to do with my tendency to dress my avatars to signify or empathize OCs of mine. For Iro, it was my OC Xaevan I was trying to relate to, which had red hair, and this was the closest hairstyle available to my OCs hairstyle. Then I just went from there. =)

Knerd 10-16-2008 03:26 PM

I have the tendency to go back to the same color scheme - Browns & reds. I'll venture out of that comfort zone for a little while (like right now), but it never lasts very long.

Otherwise, I like to be completely covered. Gloves, stockings, hats, and belts are a must. I really don't like to show much skin.

Paprika 10-16-2008 05:50 PM

So i just realize that most of my avvies consist of layered basic tee/tank and skirts XD

Melody 10-16-2008 08:23 PM

My avi always has underwear on whether or not they are seen, and socks under boots, even if they aren't seen, though socks + sandals is a never. I dress them like you do Jelly...Though mine does always have a 'princess-y' look to her... What can I say, I'm a princess at heart. And princesses must be dressed nicely, from head to toe. >.> *smoothes out her skirt* yesh. <3

and I only show skin when it goes with the outfit. More often then not though, I have her covered.

Sphynxee 10-17-2008 11:36 PM

On a lot of the other sites which I have clothes on, I go for black and white. I'm so simple in that sense. I can't help it I really love those two colours together!

But I like the idea of treating it like a person that's pretty cute.

Skykittykat 10-20-2008 07:06 AM

I generally go by a basic color scheme or a central theme as well. If I'm halfway into a quest I will have the items that I have gotten on with the clothes I have on at that time. And I keep them there until I have finished my quest then I just put on the quest outfit alone. I am in the middle of my Halloween quest at the moment and I'm putting together my witch costume. Unfortunately until that quest is finished I must keep on my clothes from my Phoenix Jubilee avvie. (I was missing from the site since then basically...) It's a OCD thing I have. (I'm not really OCD more like just plain obsessive...) I guess that's a quirk and I must always have something pink and some kind of weapon with my avvie at all times. Right now her weapon is the staff thingy next to her.
