So I'm new here, as you can already tell... -naked avi- lol
One thing I've noticed looking around on here, is that people's gold total is posted under their avis. I'm wondering how people feel about that and has there been any problems with it before? (Like scamming, hacking, ect)
It just seems like a weird thing to have openly displayed like that. Maybe 'cause I'm used to Gaia?

I'm new here too (though I have clothes ^.^)
I too was wondering about that.
At first I was kinda freaked out about it, but I just stopped noticing after awhile.

lol makes me feel like a total N00b with it shown >.<
I just registered last night, but started today.
It's interesting to say the least.
I don't know if I put this topic in the right place though ^^;

You don't have to worry about hacking and I've been saying this since 2007 on this site.
If a hacker is smart enough to hack you then they're smart enough to make a program to see your gold count. My friend actually made one for Gaia and he doesn't even hack.
So, don't worry. ^^

the only hacks we've ever had was a personal one where the person knew the other...and then there were a few fake ones too with people trying to make the staff give them a whole bunch of crap they moved onto a mule :P

I find the gold count rather useful under an avatar, its nice to see people have the money when they are exchanging and not bluffing

It's not too much of a problem. You RARELY hear of any hacking troubles here. It's not like gaia where you could get hacked when you first join. The community here is safer and more reliable :]

I thought it was odd at first, but I've been here... 18 months so I stopped noticing long ago.
Occasionally it makes me a tad jealous of someone, or impressed, but there you go. XD

I wouldn't worry about your gold count being displayed...

It's very useful for things such as buying on the Exchange or in Art Shops. So when you offer on an item/art/other service, the person you're trying to purchase from knows how much gold you have and knows if you can afford the item or if you'll be able to afford it soon.

Also, lots of users have mule accounts where they store their extra gold. So just because someone has 50.20 gold under their avatar doesn't mean they're not one of the top ten richest users on the site.

We're not really a materialistic community. Almost no one will judge you based on what you're wearing or how much gold you have under your avatar. (Unless by "judge" you include "judge if you can purchase this item right away.) Some of our richest users keep almost no gold on their main accounts and run around in their default undies or one of those 30gold ragged shirts. XD

- goes to change into undies because CK said so -
xDxD

Ya like everyone said you really stop noticing the whole gold count thing after a while. In fact I am so used to it that I find it weird that Gaia doesn't have it xD
I have never heard of anyone get hacked by someone they didn't know here. The staff are on top of things for the most part because the amount of users isn't too large.
There is also more of a focus on conversation rather than wealth here. Even in the exchange almost all the threads just have conversations going through them rather then transactions.

I've had a failed hacking attempt on my account (by someone I didn't know, folks! And it only failed because I was signing in the same time the other person was and managed to intentionally lock myself out Dx), pretending to be me, and it pissed me off so much I quit for a while. So yeah, it does happen, but like, almost never. @[email protected]; I do miss hiding my money in the bank sometimes, but I haven't seen much problems here on the whole.

The time I've been on mene, I've only heard about it happening once. You don't really need to worry about being hacked, mene is a tight knit community. If you do get hacked, the staff will probably work with you to find out who did it and to help you get your stuff back.
but basically what everyone else said, hacking just really doesn't happen here too often. xD;

yah. i was wondering the same thing
i kind of dont notice. though from time to time i do and it kind of bugs me that anyone can see my gold. i also kind of think it puts people in a position of rich or poor. and can sometimes make them feel bad. i dont really care though =]

I found this unusual, too but it's very useful now that I think about it.

I never really thought much about it. Then I discovered, most people are really nice here, and too smart to fall for or attempt to pull scams and crap...so I worried about it even less.

As CK said, it gets really useful in the Exchange or art shops - especially in the art shops; you're much less likely to get ripped off for an "unauthorized freebie" if you can see that the person has the gold to pay you beforehand.

So really...it may seem strange at first, but it's not difficult to get used to. We're not the kind to judge you based on how much gold you have, or what items you've got...so really it's a pretty useful feature. However, I would very much hate if something like this were introduced on, say, Gaia, where people WILL judge you for it. >.<;

i still think it's sort of weird, but i'm pretty new myself. i understand the helpfulness of it within the exchange forum and such like, but i don't really see any other benefit.

well i do get emmbarised because of it sometimes,but thankfully,the people here are kind enough and meture to know that it's not such a big deal to make fun of it,no worries besides no one can ever make fun of such a thing even if you were registered for 10 years!
