Is it me or are the people on Mene generally older as in around 16+? I am 18 but I have seen a bunch of people in there late 20's on here. I came from gaia and people there are as young as 10 so I am just wondering if this place is technically for the older crowd....
by the way sorry if this is on the wrong forum x_x i totally forgot I was in the general discussion forum, I think this belongs in the "community" discussion sorryy ><

They seem pretty young to me. ._.
Cumulatively though, Menewsha probably does have the higher percentage of older users, not just volume..

Ten years old? Wow, that's very young in my opinion.
Wait, ten-year-olds can type? I could only use the hunt-and-peck method at that age, but I generally wasn't trusted with computers until I was around twelve. Children can be kind of clumsy and break things unintentionally and computers are expensive.
When I was ten, if I was allowed to use the family computer at all it was for brief spans: I could use it for school assignments but it was considered by my parents to be more of a brain-rotting activity than TV.
I'm a college student right now and it's refreshing to see an older community. The discussions tend to be more enlightened and the users have cooler heads, both of which are highly desirable in an online community such as this.

Haha I don't even think I knew what the internet was at age 10 xDD But in this day and age 10 year olds "know" about anything computer related. Don't you see little 4 year olds playing games on the computer?? And I agree about the older group. I feel like I am not being "immature" or abyish visiting an avatar site since a lot of other older people are online too. And i love knowing that I am not chatting with oblivious 10 year olds xDD

It feels like this is an older community.
Or it could just be that there are much more respectful and intelligent young people here. I do know of someone who is 14 here. I, however, am 20.
I really like being here and having intelligent conversations. Unlike Gaia where there's 10 year olds going "OMG. Can I haz yur goldz??????[insertmindlessspamhere] in your threads.

I honestly think people will be illiterate and lame because they can, not because of their age.

I totally agree, I think it's mostly because Mene is more forum based which involves a lot of chatting while gaia is more game like so it attracts the younger crowd...

This isn't an older community, the most populous age group on here is between 14-17, it's just that we discourage spam and chat speak so the people who use this site appear more mature

I agree with Jellysundae, you can't really spam here. Like when you bump a thread to keep it alive on Gaia, you're not allowed to post twice in a row here, because that's considered spam. Which I thought was really weird, but meh.
Well, that and if you don't carry on a real conversation here, you can't get gold worth a damn. (sorry for the profanity:sweat: )

I'm not sure, maybe.
I myself am only 13, but people think I'm around 16 because I can actually type and hold a real conversation.

Well I'm nineteen, but I'm never really sure of the age group of the people I talk to because I don't really run around asking how old everyone is. Considering jellysundae's stats, it sounds like the Menewhsa community is just generally more mature. Odds are we probably do have more of an older audience compared to the audience on Gaia.
Yes, some ten year olds can type, but I think they are less likely to read rules and check for previous threads then someone older and more respectful. My little sister who is ten has a Gaia account (which I am totally against at her age) and she got herself flamed because she was asking for gold and made a Kingdom Hearts thread despite the giant sticky. I kinda had to jump on her for that one because I just hate when people do that especially my own sister!

Like jelly said, it's not that they're all older (I myself am 18), it's just that they appear to be more mature here because of mene's rules. ^^

I've noticed that but I think it's because of the rules in here. Totally agree about gaia being more game-ish type. Even at work... Gaia is blocked and Mene is not, it's a forum so I'm able to log in (:
I'm 23 and I'm liking it here, Gaia is much more about bumps and playful conversation.

I've actually been around a crowd of moms and grandmothers, so I can agree with you there. There are few I meet younger, but for the most part, people are in college, or getting married, newly married, etc
And in regards to MoonGrave
They can actually type, but not to a very literate extent. They tend to use chatspeak and such, so it's a bit hard to understand, and annoys the heck of older, or more serious users.
I really suck at typing, and really don't capitalize >>', but I'm still fairly literate; I even spell check

Peoples ages on here tend to go askewed anyways. There are enough users on here that I would not believe they were as old as they are...and still don't sometimes.
For instance, I do not believe Jelly is 37. She seems to be in the 20s to a lot of times. But that is just me.
I believe it mainly has to do with the way people act and bring their conversations into the forums, as mentioned below. Chat speak and weird and unusual spelling of words is seen on here, but it is not common and is generally done for amusement I believe. Though I must say, I generally ignore those conversation for a while since they tend to give me headaches or confusion.
I, myself, am about to turn 18, but I know enough users who are younger than me. I think the age range Jelly listed is accurate mainly because when I have gotten into conversations involving ages before, the general response is in that range.

I think that it's not that it's directed at an older crowd...but more that the systems we have in place get tedious and boring to the younger users (such as the strict no spam rules and gold cap on games - I know a lot more 20-year olds than 13-year olds who would have the patience to earn their gold by REAL community participation).
Personally, I like the way it works out, because regardless of age, we manage to attract a more mature crowd than I've seen on certain other sites. Just compare our GD to Gaia's and you'll see what I mean.
I, myself, am currently working on my 20th birthday plans, and I feel comfortably in the average age range of users here. I like it.

Though many of our user base are still in their teenage years, this place does appeal to the mature type if not the older type per se. Everyone knows how to hold a conversation and still have fun without the mindless posting you find elsewhere. I know fourteen year olds here that I forget are fourteen and think they are my age (19).
Of course there are older users as well, I know of a few and it only adds to the fact that it is an appealing place with a real community feel. Even from the comfort of a computer screen.

*gives juru elixer of youth* <33 You're not old so don't worry. (:
10 years old on gaia? All of those accounts SHOULD have been frozen until the users became 13. There are laws in effect in the United States to protect children from forum sites, where pedophiles could grab their information etc. That's why birthdays have to be inserted into the system before signing up, you need to be 13 before you can have an account.
I have to agree with the maturity level on menewsha being greater than that on some other sites. It's refreshing to not be attacked by bumps and n00bs all the time.

Yeah I can agree.
I haven't seen anyone here under sixteen.
I like it like this because the conversations last longer and are way better.
I am not old but I am 17, 18 in march if that makes in difference.

I am in my mid-twenties. I am going to turn 24 in a couple of months. The youngest person I have encountered on this site was 12 years old. And they actually got hassled for being under the age of thirteen.
This type of site just appeals to a different audience than Gaia. I like to think of it a more mature and developed community, perhaps not in age but emotionally mature.
