(I apologize if the rest of this post sounds like I'm complaining or am telling people what to do. That's not the case. I'm just incredibly frustrated, and tired of this gross miscommunication between the staff and the users.)
:(:o:(
Yes, you are correct by definition - nothing is 'crashing'. However, it's a mere technicality, as the application tends to lock after so many seconds of lag. Some people can wait it out, and the rest of us have to restart.
The LAG is CAUSING my browser to lock. It has given me errors on more than one browser, stating that the java has timed out/encountered an error, would I like to stop the script responsible.... More often though, it just causes the entire browser to be 'Not Responding' - and I did try to wait it out, more than once. But MORE THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES is not going to work. I know the difference between lag and lock. Some times lag will work itself out - other times the computer can't handle it and the application locks up instead. Guess what's happening here.
It's like my dentist saying to the nurse, 'the patient is having trouble distinguishing the vibrations from pain' - A. I'm sitting right there, don't talk like I'm not. B. The VIBRATIONS ARE CAUSING ME PAIN. There is no 'distinguishing' necessary. I'm glad the staff created such a cool game that we all want to play - but you're not listening to the majority of us when we say it's giving us lag/lock problems. We DID set it on low, we DID try to wait it out - now help us on your end to see what can be done!
I used to get paid good money to troubleshoot peoples computers. Customer Service, Customer Support, Tech Support - I've done it all at different places. I built my own computer, and I know how it works, how to update software. I'm not a computer genius, I just know how to look it up if I don't know how to fix it right off.
So. I may not know how to create a Flash Game - but I know when it's causing my computer to lose functionality.
I uninstalled and reinstalled flash. An update came up and I installed that. I changed resolution and color depth on my monitor (which did help, a bit), I looked up 'Flash unresponsive' and found that a LOT of people are having odd problems with the most recent versions, and I'd already done most of what was recommended. I even changed browsers to one that someone else had great success in using with reduced lag.
I had a friend come over and play the game, had it lock the browser up, and then he went to another site with tons of flash games, and he played about an hour's worth of OTHER Tower Defense games, to show me how it's done. NONE of those locked or even lagged the browser.
So we have a two pronged problem here.
1. High spec computers may encounter problems with SOME sites which run Flash based content. There's not much to be done about that until Adobe fixes it. --- this may just be one of those applications.
2. This particular game obviously runs with different coding than other flash based Tower Defense games, causing it to lag on high-end computers. I've noted that the people with the least lag problems are oddly, the ones who do not claim to have a 'gaming computer'.
I'd really like it if the staff who helped make this game would stop telling us it's not the game, it's us, and we the users don't know what we're talking about. A LOT of people are having problems with this. Therefore, it's not just a little 'it'll go away' problem. I'm glad it doesn't affect everyone - but the rest of us are having to deal with not being able to play the game properly if we want to play it at all. Help us! Do a little research on your end, I've done plenty on mine - and I don't want to learn to write flash just so I can try to play a game. I spent an entire DAY trying to fix this on my end, and it didn't help me.
If it turns out after researching fully that this is one of the things that falls under the unspecified problem Flash and High End computers have right now, fine. I'll be happy someone at least looked besides me.
Anyway. Like I said, I'm not mad at anyone, I'm just frustrated at not hearing any different solutions since the game's release.
I'm going to go play Call of Duty now, and shoot some people in the face to calm down. Please listen to your fanbase when they tell you something isn't working.
