So, with the announcement of some modifications to our profiles, I was checking things out and noticed, down at the bottom of my profile, the little box of all the social groups that I'm a member of. It actually took me a little by surprise, because I'd completely forgotten about them!

I went and checked them all out and saw that some of them haven't been posted to for months, but some have had activity today, and that got me thinking. I remember there was a big rush of excitement when they were first released, but I'm curious about how much traffic they get these days. Have you forgotten about them, or are you still a regular visitor?

I don't bother with them myself, they're kind of a pointless feature to me, because what could you talk about in them that you couldn't just as easily talk about out on the forums, and earn some gold for it?

The only difference is that they can be set to private so only members of the group can see what's being said. I'm sure that other forums that work differently get better use from them, but I personally don't think there's much point to them with the way that we do things.

I went on a couple, too, and there hadn't been people posting for a long time. Before I went on them I didn't know they existed. Noone talks about groups or anything, so really it's not something that I think gets used much. :\

The Groups are so easy to forget about. I think of it almost like a secondary interest list. You can see what groups people are in, but hardly anyone posts in them. There might be some shared pictures but that's it. I've posted in a group once or twice and then never bother again. Like Jelly said, it's easier to talk to people about things in the forums. And you earn gold there.

I never joined any groups in the first place, because I am such a lurker that I'd rather get gold for the few posts I DO decide to make. ^_^

I would probably post in those from time-to-time if they were a bit more user-friendly (ie: set up a bit more like the forums are) - even without using gold. xD; But since they're set up a bit confusingly, it's not worth my time using it right now. :B

Is this feature some kind of a "guild" like from "other" avatar site? =\

I suppose that's kind of what they're intended for, but as they work in the same way as the guilds on Neopets they rarely get used as they're more of a pain than anything else xD

Everytime I'd randomly come back to check on Menewsha I'd pop my head in a few I checked out over a year ago, all very very dead.

I wish they were more like Gaia Guilds to be honest.... a single thread like thing is very inefficient...might as while just have a hang out thread because at least then you get to quote, edit, have a layout, etc....

The private option is the only thing that makes it slightly worthwhile. XD

Well, I'm glad to know that it's not just me that forgot about them and finds them a little redundant. It's kind of too bad in a way, because I remember there being a lot of excitement when they first came out. Plus, guild-like side forums can be really fun. Then again, I don't think Mene is really big enough yet to sustain a guild system without totally devastating the main forums, which is the last thing I want. It's probably for the best that the Social Groups just continue to putter in peace in the corner. :sweat:

I don't even know if I'm in a social group to be honest. if I am I have forgotten about it.. I think if you can't earn gold..and can't have a cool guild design or anything then what would be the point of a social group? *thinks of guilds like on neopets* neopet has a really cool guild system...
