Popular RP themes
I eventually want to try and create my own RP thread here, but first I want to know what kind RP people here are into? I usually go for fantasy/adventure RPs with romance encouraged, but I have been known to do school ones. And if I read a plot I like enough, I'll do that one too. So help me out here, what are you into RP wise?
|
I believe fantasy, horror, and romance are pretty popular here. I am not much of a horror fan myself though, but it has it's own section so I guess it must be popular. I see a lot of fantasy/action rps around ^^
|
I love a good horror mystery RP or with some romance and rape and such XD I also like typical HS teenage or even college love XD
ID be more than happy to be apart of Rping with you too XD (yes I am new..) |
Well, while I have thought of doing a fantasy RPG, today I thought about going outside the box and doing a time traveling/mystery one too.
|
I go for dramatic AUs where the character is thrown into an alternative universe and forced to struggle through it with a person they love / a person they hate.
|
I prefer fantasy RPs only because I had bad experience with VERY bad rpers in every other category.
Although I do like doing band-type rps along with VERY few rps such as KH or FMA or something. |
I enjoy fantasy, steam punk, and original role plays. Oh, with romance encouraged. Literate, preferably.
|
From what I have seen. Romance is the most popular. So are one on one roleplays, which most of them turn into romance.

I'd have to agree with the posts here.
Personally, I think what you usually have going is my favorite: fantasy/adventure~ To me what really makes a RP is a story line that draws you in, keeps you going instead of just dropping you off. Well still allowing some creativity (meaning, the RP doesn't think for /you/). Regardless of the theme. Although, the other RPers play the biggest role in how effective a RP is. I'd say, mix and match your ideas into one big extravaganza. But don't overwhelm, there has to be some limit to the madness! ;___; ...It seems like the jist of the RPs on the first pages of the forums aren't very thought out. Albeit, I haven't looked very hard, or recently. |
Thank you for all your comments guys. This is great input. Does anyone here like twists in the storyline?
|
Twists are what make RPs interesting
|
I totally agree too.
|
Hmm, along with the fantasy, school themed RPs are great too. O: !!
And yess. Twists are amazingly delicious. :I Omnomnom... <3 |
Fantasy, Adventure, RP, romance, and real life rp situations.

I like fantasy RPs. But I love RPing any theme as longs is it's original.
So if I see a fantasy thread with the general storyline (two kingdoms at war, blah blah..throw some elves in blah blah, some angels blah blah) I probably wouldn't join. Same goes for any other theme. I tend to shy away from the RPs that center around romance since I find a good plot to be much more important. and I prefer to let my characters develop and not just the insta love thing (like the 'the first person your character talks to will be their lover) And horror RPs need a good plot, too. Not just the general 'booo! Blood n' guts'. Steampunk and cyberpunk themed RPs have rarely let me down, though. So, you should concentrate on beng original and having a good plot and characters, rather than the theme |
Those are good points Artemis. The problem is in other places (like Yahoo Groups), I have created completely original stuff, but the problem was getting people to join them. That's why I asked first what kind of theme. As far as plots go I always do original. Oh sure there might be a few things that might be in common with some regular themes. And while I would encourage romance, I never expect the love at first sight thing. Anyway, I still haven't figured out what I am going to do yet. This kind of stuff takes to a backburner when one is a full time university student hehe.
Here's a few more questions for ya'll. When it comes to RPGs, do you like story lines where the creator controls all the major events but still allows characters 'free time' to where they can still do their own things, or do you like free for alls where the creator just creates a situation and lets everyone do what they want? My next question is if that do any of you like rpgs where the creator makes characters or do you make your own? I ask because I've been in RPGs where the creator made her own characters (and it was a bit hit). In the beginning she allowed OCs but when the storyline came to a '2nd season', she only created all her own characters (although she allowed us other players to give her imput on what kind of chars she created because there was ALOT!! Close to 100 hehe). |
Base one off something that already exists. It's likely that you'll get shitty fan characters, but most of the players are very enthusiastic and friendly.
|
So your answer is to create my own story line where I control the major events huh and no free for alls?
|
People tend to act that way. If something's different they'll shy away. But there are always the awesome ones who join anyway.
Well, to answer your other questions, I prefer that the creator makes a good plot with lots of room for twists. But I also like it when the creator discusses some plot points with the members. The major ones,or maybe how they can tie some characters into the plot. That's what I do and it keeps everyone satisfied. The 'do as you want' thing is good when you don't want to be in a RP that requires too much thinking.A sorta laid back thing. I actually somewhat dislike it when the creator makes their own OCs that we are supposed to play. Takes out the fun in making a character and calling it your own for me. It's like we're just fleshing out the creator's fantasy. |
I personally enjoyed twisted stories. Some fan based and defiantly Originals. But I don't chose a rp based on the general theme. Oh no. A plot or even a slight story behind it has to make me itch.
RPs in most forum sights travel in a theme depending on what came out, yada yada ya. Though, I haven't looked into Mene's rp fashion myself. ^^ |
I really like comedy, romance, fantasy, and fighting anime RPs
If i see comedy threads I will probably go to it, that is if it is an anime RP, if it is not an anime RP, I might not go to it, I really don't know any comedy un-anime RP. If I see romance anime i will definitely go to it. I don't like un-anime RP romances because it really don't have a good plot. And it will look much better if it is anime, if it is un-anime it will look like... well I dunno. I just don't like it XD If it is fantasy, I really can't name any un-anime ones. seriously, the anime plot is much better. the un-anime sometimes are nice, but the outfits sorta look very ridiculous on humans, but I don't know why... Fighting RPs i like both anime and non-anime. They both have a good plot. And the outfits are nice. so it is really nicer for RPs to have original characters, good theme, good animation[unless it is a real life RP], and also a nice plot... |
I'd say this website is full of mostly fantasy roleplays, which frankly I can't stand. >.< They're okay once in a while but I like realistic ones...and there is soooo not enough yaoi on this site.
