Which RULE in Mene annoys you the most? or love the most?

Hello Menewshans
well today I was thinking how many people talk in threads about RULES here and how many complains about them and how many thank them for one or another reason so as I am always curious I wanted to know.
Of course to talk about this I suggest you to READ the rules before this.

.Which rule here annoys you the most and why?
.Which rule you love the most and why?

Personally:
The one that annoys me the most is mmmm..I will have to think of it.
well one I dont like though that doesnt mean I dont understand/agree with the why, is the one that doesnt allow you to use more thank one color for your post or some decoration for it like we have in gaia, because it is a stupid detail i know the whys they dont allow it and I agree but makes me feel less creative and plain, I love identifying people by their typical post decorations etc and I have created some very nice ones myself in other sites.

Another one I find unfair is the rule that says that if you dont agree with a mod on a pm question etc you cant go to another for a different opinion, I mean....idk you should be able to have a second opinion right?

Something I like is the rule preventing bumps
I love it!!! I hated bumpers on gaia sigh it is annoying and makes you feel you are surrounded by brainless zombies >.<
Another one I like is the anti begging one, I mean that is so annoying too.

Now what is cool is that the team keeps adding Rules when problems appears and they realize they needed a rule in there heheh I like that it is like they are learning through experience and it is cool.
So well lets post what you like and dont like about Mene Rules ok?

Sakura 10-09-2007 08:02 PM

I really like Mene's rules. they seem so fair and useful to the community. And it's such a close community things can be helped along.

I can't really think of any I hate, because I'm that easy-going kind of girl.
None I love either, I just feel they're a really fair way to operate your forum by.

Trinitydoll 10-09-2007 08:07 PM

Oh yes in general terms yes of course but this is just to know about specific rules but if you cant think of any its ok

moosesmeeses 10-09-2007 08:10 PM

I don't agree with all rules, but I understand why they're in place. However, sometimes when I'm feeling penniless, I wish there was a chatterbox where I could bump and few times and rack up some change. I understand why there isn't one though, way to many people would just abuse the way gold is granted by posting bump times 500 in one post.

So pretty much, I agree with most rules, or atleast I haven't run into a rule you that I absolutely can't stand.

ljosberinn 10-09-2007 08:26 PM

  • Haha I actually really like the fact that you can't decorate your posts, I was getting so tired of it on Gaia. Most of the time, I would have to actually search for what the person was saying in their reply because of all the decoration, and then you're rather defeating the point.

I love most of Mene's rules, I think. (No bumping! No spamming! No bull! :D) The stuff I don't like on Menewsha aren't rules, it's just tiny bits of coding that are missing or something. Meh. Nothing trés sérieux. :]

Vivian 10-09-2007 08:32 PM

I don't like how you're not allowed to double post.
I think it's so much easier to post twice in a row instead of editing your post. Plus you make more gold from double posting than you do from editing a post.

My favorite rule is how you're not allowed to flame.
I actually joined this site because of that rule. n____n

jellysundae 10-09-2007 08:33 PM

Trinity, the reason why we say don't go to another mod if one has already told you NO is this.
We all govern by the same rules so there's no point. Plus we don't need someone filling all of the staff's inboxes because they didn't get the answer they wanted on their first attempt, it's the sort of thing a child does, running to daddy because mummy said no.

Sizzla 10-09-2007 08:35 PM

This is really better suited for Community Discussion, so I'm moving it there. XP

BUT, my least favorite Mene-rule is the double-posting rule. I've always disliked it. Sometimes you just have to double-post! XP But it's not like a second post earns you that much more gold than editing.

Yet we still get those people who ask everyone, don't we?

*This is a good example of what should be a valid double post. LOL*

Jelly, if you wanna edit me, go ahead. XP

That one I don't like for that same reason as you.

I love the anti spam rules <3

Trinitydoll 10-09-2007 08:56 PM

thanks for the opion guys =) I love when people express and debate nicely <3
@Jelly yes yes I got the point I thought about that too but I didnt mean when a mod says no to something because as you said it is the same rule for all of you, but sometimes one mod thinks one thing is a wonderful idea and the other thinks it sucks or something, see?

Amo_Angelus 10-09-2007 09:15 PM

Like when I created the adopt a newbie thread!

One mod said it should probably go in charities but several others said fresh meat. Then first mod changed her mind see? -blatently ignored that rule :P sorry-

And Lilim created a thread and I believe a mod told her it should go here and it was then moved to pricing and assistance by another mod...

Sizzla 10-09-2007 09:20 PM

Well, you're not always going to have all the mods agree with where a thread should be placed. That sort of thing is a judgement call...

Your adopt-a-newbie thread is definitely best suited for Fresh Meat in my opinion, because more newbies will actually see it that way. Even when I was new, I didn't go into Charities at all (and I still rarely do). But I was in the Fresh Meat forum for the first few days at least. *nods*

On more difficult decisions, I like to confer with other mods/CMs to decide the best way to move forward. *nods* So it's not like we never discuss these things. But moving threads is a relatively minor decision most of the time, so we don't necessarily confer with one another on that sort of thing.

Abis 10-09-2007 09:22 PM

The only rule I've really had issues with is the whole 'one color per post' bit... I was used to using at least two different colors in posts, just to differentiate between what was being said. I understand why it's in place and everything, but I didn't really see one extra color as that much of a gold boost, unless it was a person sitting there changing the color of every letter for the extra count.

Ehm. Rule I love. No spam posting. Going back to visit Gaia is positively painful, because of all of the nonsense posts. I love that we aren't allowed to spam here, and that there is a general rigidity to location of threads.

Amo_Angelus 10-09-2007 09:26 PM

That's the only really thing with that rule. It kinda says don't go asking for a second oppinion. But for like placing a thread it's good to have two or three opinions before you place it just so you know you're putting it in the right place.

I mean if someone PMed me with "You're breaking X rule" I wouldn't go find another mod to confirm it, but the rule kinda stipulates that you shouldn't ask for a second oppinion on anything. Know what I mean?

And then it was said by the first mod, that, in his enthusiasm, he thought CD was best.

:3

Occasionally you'll get events like that, but the biggest thing with that rule is when you get someone who wants something from one staff member, and makes their rounds on the others when they don't get the satisfactory answer.

For example "Dear Jelly, I don't like my name, may I change it?
Jelly- " No."
"Dear Sizzla, I don't want this name anymore, be a dear and change it?"
Sizzla- "Nope!"
"Dear Blahblah-..." And so on.

It's situations like that, that that rule is in place. >XD

Spring`Tyme Fresh 10-09-2007 09:27 PM

I don't think i have any problems with the rules.
I understand the reasons for the one colour per post, and i honestly don't think it matters that much if you have one or ten in a post.
I can identify people by their post style already, and i hope some can recognise mine, and that is only by using a single colour.
Remember, there are many millions of colours, chosing one unique one is creative in it's own right.

ladyumbra 10-09-2007 09:46 PM

I despite the no multicolour rule. I see why it's there but damnit as a roleplayer I like to have different colours represent different characters when I'm using more then one person.

Amo_Angelus 10-09-2007 09:56 PM

I was told you could have a different colour per character :P

Yeah Chunsa, I'm not saying I disagree with it. S'all I'm saying is if I had to pick one that would be it. Because it is good to have a second opinion on some things.

Owl 10-09-2007 10:04 PM

  • I agree. Post stlyes = win. I strongly dislike the rule on codeing.

I know I know that would take up coding and give you more gold every time...but I just love them so much. ;; I really feel more colorful and friendly and cute with my post styles. n__n

The no begging and spamming rules are doing their jobs well, though. c:

nescia 10-09-2007 10:17 PM

Ooo, I like this thread, Trinity. It was a great idea to make an organized thread for users to post feed-back on the site rules. ^-^

.Which rule here annoys you the most and why?

I really don't like that gold-earning is disabled in the word games forum. Word Games is one of my favorite forums on Gaia and I don't like that I am being discouraged from posting on the one on Mene. Responses to word games require just as much (if not more) thought than posts in other forums. I honestly don't think that it would be unfair to earn gold from them. :/

.Which rule you love the most and why?

I'm also big fan of the no bumping rule. This policy makes keeping with different threads much easier.

Trinitydoll 10-09-2007 10:19 PM

Remember when I came up with the wonderful (>.<) idea of making a thread with all the people posting the links of their fave hangouts and threads so could know where everyone was and have a sort of record and also help people to have some attention to their threads?
Well I pmed a mod and she said "oh it is a wonderful idea , go ahead that would be really nice"
I took 1/2 hour setting up the thread nicely and neat and attractive, making forms and all,
then I received a pm from the same mod saying " I have talked to this other mod and she said "the idea sucked cause people will start posting links like crazy to make money"
End of story
they trashed my thread.....I didnt even get to "discuss" the idea witht that mod....(I had another idea without putting the links there ) but i was sooooo mad and frustrated (more because I thought it was soo cool and usefuland I never though
about the gold and it seemed very unfair that some mods are always thinking about "lets not allow people come up with ideas that lead you to get gold" ...jesus my idea WASNT because of that....I know it is hard for them not to think bad first because they are all day dealing with people who post only with that purpose but.....
And so well I wish that mod could have given me the oportunity to TALK bfore trashing my thread.
Hey Im not mad with any mod ,I just that action an over reaction, some mods need to calm down and talk ...take the time to dialogue, more if they know the user is not new etc...but i can see some are very stressed...take a break like Kale did, have fun ok?

Peppermint 10-09-2007 10:21 PM

  • I like teh no double posts rule.
Theres so spammers and such, that way. :3

    Muah. Love this rule.~<3

thanks <3 and I second you on the word games rules I think if the game is not one word game or a good organized thing I dont see the problem, I used to like that thread too in the beginning but then i was discouraged to keep posting there.

nescia 10-09-2007 10:29 PM

@Chunsa-chan- Thanks for the explanation about that rule. :]

@Trinitydoll- Yikes. That really sounds unfair about your favorite threads thread. :[

Oh and about the word games. Maybe there could just be some restrictions on the types of word games allowed? Like I've seen several that are writing exercise type things. The sort of thing where a person responds with a paragraph based on a them posted by the person above them or with the persona of a certain character, etc...
