Most christian customs have a basis in pegan traditons. It made the conversion process easier to just place the christrian holidays around the pre-existing pagan ones. While Yule is typically celebrated on Dec. 25th now to correlate with Christmas, it was orignally celebrated over a series of days starting on the winter solstice (Dec. 22nd this year) and continued, in most cases, into January or until the yule log burned out. |
Oh i know, read a log history of all of that years ago. But the tree and colors aren't christian symbols themselves, they are used in conjunction with the holiday. Christmas is about going to church and celebrating the birth of christ. Santa, gifts, and all that other fun stuff is what people affectionately call "xmas" or "santa christmas". Yeah, pretty much. The tradition of gift giving actually comes from St. Nicholas (Santa Clause). He went around giving gifts to the poor. Darn, I wish I could remember more about him, but my memory's vague here. I remember learning about it in like 3rd grade. I've mostly tucked it away in the back of my mind because I don't follow catholisism anymore. lol

I lovee the event, and I love the items! I can finally make a really good black, white, red, and green avatar!! I can't wait until we can start getting event items. I already have ten snowflakes, lol. I got two in a row earlier.

Wait, it ends on the 27th? That's the day that I will be stuck with my family and no computer! Well, maybe my sister will let me use hers for a hour, if she gets internet access in the building we'll be trapped in.
I hope that the New Years event doesn't start until New Years Eve, or even New Years day so I can participate in it.
