Accounts and memory.

First off...I am a mule. And I confess, I am actually the second mule made by this user. I wouldn't exist at all if it weren't for these conditions:

- I forgot my previous mule's username.
- I forgot the email address I registered said mule under -- and I do mean COMPLETELY forgot. I went through my list of email addresses that I remembered...and NONE of them was it.
- I have a dynamic IP address (AND I'm on a laptop and don't even remember if I was on my home network or not), so asking a mod or admin to help me find said old mule would probably have been futile, unless they know something about IP tracing on phpBB forums that I don't.
- ...I obviously didn't care for the name much if I could just forget about it so easily. o_O;
- I never posted on my old mule...or did ANYTHING. I just made a mule and left it. That was lame of me. D:

But enough about my excuses. ^^; The point is, I FORGOT my mule. Why? I don't know...I guess it just wasn't memorable to me. Apparently, the name wasn't that big a deal to me. Actually, I'm pretty sure that what I did was randomly look up a word in the dictionary and use it. All I wanted was a male mule...and didn't care much about the name.

But...I'm NOT going to forget this one. I KNOW I'm not, and for two reasons:

One - After I made this account, I noticed something interesting at the forum footer:

I enlarged the text so that the bold wouldn't eat my name.

20,000? I was the 20,000th registered account? Well, not quite - my user ID is 20,005. But it's STILL a nice, even number...and definitely not one I'm going to forget! :D

Two - This username is pronounced the same as the name as one of the main characters from my favorite movie. It is LIKELY that this is actually how his name was written, though I'd probably have to see the movie script to know for sure. ^^; They never actually showed it. I looked. D: But still...you get the point. It's memorable for me.

So I ask of you...have you ever KNOWN you had an old account, but got blocked out of it due to forgetting something? Forgot the password, username, email address? All of the above? Do you have any idea why you would forget that account?

Conversely, why will you always remember your username/password? (DON'T be stupid and post your password here, kthx.) What makes an account memorable to you? Do you know your user ID number by heart? Is there anything memorable about that?

Finally...20k! Whoo! 8D

And mods - if you can somehow find what my old mule was (my main is Fullmetal Phantom), feel free to delete it, change its name to gibberish (I remember its name was a real word, so someone else might want it), ban it, whatever. I don't care. I just want it to be known that due to my memory lapse (and the fact that I've had similar ones in the past), this is my one mule.

Honestly, I think you're full of it and you were just trying to get the 20k spot, but already had a mule. <3

But that's just my opinion.

Congrats on it anyway.

Rawrsaurus 01-26-2008 09:55 AM

I actually don't know the exact passwords for each of my accounts on every site..since firefox spoils me and remembers it for me xD;;

If I had to, I'd be able to figure it out though. All of my passwords are in the same general format, though with probably like 8 different ones I use and rotate between xD;

Mm..I don't remember my ID number...-goes to look-

Fullmetal Phantom 01-26-2008 09:57 AM

No, I seriously forgot it my old mule. D: I've been trying very, VERY hard to remember it ever since the anniversary gift thing happened. I wish I could have gotten two cake hats. XD But I seriously can't remember. And I really didn't notice the 20k unil later. I feel kinda bad about it now; would have been a lot more special if it had been an actual new member. D:

Like I said...apparently the old one just plain wasn't memorable to me. :\ That name came to me while I was writing a song (do NOT ask...XD;;), and I thought it would make a good username where it's allowed - and of course, I'd be able to remember it.

And on the subject of remembering usernames - I always remember this one because it's been attached to me for over two years. It started on dA, and it just...really stuck with me. I've used it most everywhere since. ^^;

@Rawrsaurus: Ever since the free anniversary gift thread opened, I wondered why I didn't have my supposed mule in Firefox. XD I save all my usernames and passwords like that. Honestly, I've started to wonder if I didn't just DREAM I made a mule before today. XD;;; But I have a fairly good memory for my passwords...thank god, too, because I've lost all my saved passwords due to crashes before. >.<; Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe that's what happened...I don't know. D:

And you're number 4608. :3 Awesome number.

*blinks*

You know, you could have asked someone on the staff to retrieve that information, or checked all your email accounts instead of creating this one.

Suspense 01-26-2008 04:21 PM

*Points at what Fayumi_saito said* But hmm, on subject; I always forget my passwords especially since I have a different one for every account I have (I'm not talking about Mene only, I have only two accounts here (durr) and they're both different passwords.)

I write them down on my computer notepad incase I ever forget.

jellysundae 01-26-2008 04:35 PM

We can't retrieve an old account if no-one can give us any information about it at all >.< we're not psychic :lol:

We need a name, or we have nothing to go on http://i16.tinypic.com/5y06bt4.gif

Suspense 01-26-2008 04:38 PM

@WindyJelly: Cant you check by looking at the IP or something? And you guys aren't psycic? Wow. I had noo idea xDD <33

fuyumi_saito 01-26-2008 04:38 PM

what about those address thingies?

That's exactly what I do, Suspense.

I have a beautiful notepad document that holds all of that information. :D

Suspense 01-26-2008 04:44 PM

@BettyBeat: Lol, yeah! They're so conveniant for little things like that :3

BettyBeat 01-26-2008 04:45 PM

Yeah! xD

It's awesome because the program takes almost no time to load, unlike Word. xD

jellysundae 01-26-2008 04:55 PM

IP checks don't always work. No other accounts show up on Phantom's. Because his previous account hadn't been posted on for a long time when he created his current one, there is no cross-over.

x-cutie-x-pie-x 01-26-2008 05:11 PM

His previous mule hasn't posted at all. So maybe that's why?

Fullmetal Phantom 01-26-2008 05:30 PM

This is why I didn't pester any staff members with the issue. ^^; I've created a few small forums before, one of which ran on phpBB...so I'm a bit familiar with how the administration tools work. Especially since I checked the email addresses that I knew I had...apparently I registered under an email address I forgot about. I'm probably going to feel stupid if/when I find it. D:

I'm one of those people who really NEEDS a memorable name. My memory for things like that is TERRIBLE. XD;;; This isn't the first account I've forgotten, actually - I forgot the first 6 email addresses I created within six months of making them (several years ago; I only made them to sign up for sites), and once had a name with random numbers in it which I could NEVER remember. Needless to say, I never use numbers anymore. XD;

I used to keep a Notepad document with my login information for various sites, but my cat likes to sleep on my keyboard...and one day, she ended up deleting everything on that document. @[email protected] So I stopped using that and tried a piece of paper. Which...ANOTHER of my cats chewed up. She loves paper. D: The down side to living with animals - have you ever tried to explain to your teacher that your CAT really DID eat your homework? XD

So ever since then, I've really tried to make all my usernames and passwords MEMORABLE (not easily guessable, though, that would be stupid). Too many things go wrong when I try to save them any other way. I am...obviously VERY unlucky like that. XD; Of course, obviously...I occasionally fail. ^^;

nescia 01-27-2008 08:25 PM

I never forget user names.
I'm pretty bad with passwords though.
I think that I change them too often.
>_<

I'll remember my account because my best friend on Ragnarok Online Was named Chiisai Chiroshi.
I would remember my password because I love the thing.
Plus, my favorite number(s) is in it.

Cami 01-27-2008 11:18 PM

On gaia I was really into roleplaying and had over a dozen accounts, most with different passwords.

Somehow, I always remembered them.

Except one.

I have been trying to remember one account (that I made when I came up with the character, but then never used) for ages now.
