I first thought it was a lot like Gaia and wasn't going to bother with Menewsha .. but then Gaia started getting to commercial and attracting more n00bs Dx It's nice though, coming here and being able to have serious conversations without hearing a bunch of n00b-speak o.-
|
I was like "OO~! Another avi community! Maybe this'll be good. *joins, finds it hard to earn gold, but gets over it and keeps on posting.*"
Though it's hard to earn gold, I had good impressions of the site first off. XD It looked like a really nice small community which I know is true now. 83 |
I thought the avatars were adorable. I wasn't too intimidated by the gold system, because it's pretty much the same as Roliana.
I also liked that the navigation was simple, unlike some other avatar-based sites. I don't have to click through twelve pages to get somewhere! Oh, and because the gold system is based on literacy, it makes reading others' posts alot more enjoyable! I don't have to decipher any chat-speak, thank goodness. Hopefully, I won't get bored here like I sort of did with Roliana. I like more things about Mene though :3. |
 I'm pretty sure I posted something in my LiveJournal about it... -searches through entries-
Yup- "MENEWSHA IS SO CUTE! BEE SLIPPERS! OHMYGOD!" I joined in October so the slipper ci banner was the first thing I noticed on the homepage. xD I had a pretty good impression of it from the start. |
I ahve to admit, my first thought was that I was very intimidated! *laugh* About how to earn gold, start topics without looking like a noob, that sort of thing. Thankfully, within a week it was a bit less intimidating, but that was my first reaction. :3
|
My first reaction was that It loked poor, but would improve, so I joined because I join every avatar community I find. ^.^
|
I liked it.
While it seems silly and very "go with the slow" I related it to Gaia as well. It reminded me of the "Good ole Gaia" days, back when it was humble and much smaller, where you had to work for your gold the old fashioned way: posting. Plus, everyone's so literate here, I'm impressed! ^_^ Here is for good conversation, and making friends, so I will be around here for quite a while. |
When I first joined, I took a look around, decided it was too complicated, and just never came back to see the site. It was probably a combination of me being used to other forum sites where double posting and bumping is allowed, so Menewsha seemed so strict to me that I thought it wouldn't be any fun and didn't stay long to give it a chance. I recently heard some friends talking about it though, and decided to come back and check it out, and it has had a much better impression on me this time around. =) The people are nice, the forums are interesting, the stickies informative, and I've been having a lot of fun with the avatar creator. =p
|
It was much the same for me about not being able to get gold fast (as you can see i am fairly new, just on yesterday.) I wasn;t sure how much I would like it, but I think things are going along great and I like the people so far. :D
|
I wasn't actually going to bother with going on menewsha, and I still rarely do. But I occaisionally log in to check things and make some gold. ^^
|
I also had the "WOW! It's like Gaia" thing going on; this was the third avatar site that I had joined. (I also joined Zantarni at the same time, but just wasn't as attracted to it as I was to Mene.) I really liked the avatars, and enjoyed the fact that you have to earn your outfits. Yes, it would be "nice" to have clothes--except that if all that you're wearing is a starter set, it's just as obvious that you're new as it would be if you were naked. I was also surprised that some of the rarer items seemed relatively easy to get (like the scarf of order/sash of chaos). I traded a Pudao of time for a sash. (Which--hey, I should be getting a bit of gold back in that trade. ;))
But I really enjoy the literacy and the no-spam rule. And there are just amazing people here. I'm sure that there are amazing people on Gaia, too--it's just so much harder to find them. I like the fact that there are a lot of people, but there's still a community vibe. I love how the mods embrace the rules. (Do I agree with EVERYTHING that they do? No, but they still seem fairer to me than Gaia's mods/admin/staff.) ANYWAY. I love Menewsha. It's great. My first impression was "like Gaia, but better!" And my second impression was "OMG the avatars have noes. YUSS." (Those may have been reversed; it was over six months ago.) |
I didn't know if I would like it at first. I wasn't very active when I first joined, but then it grew on me more and more. I'm glad I decided to stay and try it out more. It's fun. ^^
|
Well my first thought was how cute the avatars and site are. I like the pixels. But then it seemed SO hard to earn gold and I was put off by it like the OP, so I didn't come back after a couple times. But then my friend joined recently and she had me come back so now I have been talking and participating more and I really like it. I still wish it was a little easier to get clothes though.
|
Well, I'm new now, so I suppose this would be my first impression. o 3o
I think the pixels are really cute, and I love how you can have intelligent/literate conversation. I'm a member of a couple of these sites now, and I really like that literacy counts. I know I probably can't say much about this yet, but the clothes and things don't seem too expensive to me, and gold doesn't seem too hard to get. Maybe I just haven't seen enough yet. XD |
lol - I hated it at first in all honesty - I thought it was a gaia cop-off and I wasn't into either this or gaia at the time so I didn't start coming on here for a while - but now that I'm here I love it :D
|
At first I was kind of surprised that it was different in ways to get gold, that it's by when you post and how long the post was. Except I thought the pixels were very cute, and the items were very interesting, unique, and creative :]
And being from a site that had a lot of spam, I was very surprised at the fact that there was practically no spam, and when there was, it'd be gone sooner or later. Also, what was different than some other sites is that, people actually followed the rules, and the rules were quite strict, also, the mods and such actually talk to you. As well as the NPCs! And it was quite shocking that people actually had conversations, and knew how to spell correctly ;O |
"Oh no another Gaia site" But then i looked around and found out that in MY opinion, Mene is better. The Gaia no necked, over cute, over cluttered avvies just drove me bonkers...these avvies have a better balance about them, and the posters construct threads/posts a bit better...more thought out and whatnot so here i am to stay!
|
Well, I joined today. I heard about it earlier and thought it was just trying to be the same thing as Gaia, and not going to be that good, so I never bothered to look around and give it a chance. But today I got bored and finally decided I'd give it a chance, I hear good things about it, and I always like trying something new. It's different from what I had first expected, and I enjoy it.
I like the avatar customization from what I've seen, Well I don't really know cause I can't wear anything yet. I don't have anything to wear. XD But creating the character is different from what I'm used to on Gaia. And I like the way these avatars look. I notice that earning gold is much more of a challenge here than on Gaia, and so different, that takes some getting used to. I like the fact that there is no spamming, I am tired of seeing so many useless spam posts! Here I can actually be a part of discussions. I'm going to have to get used to making longer posts, on Gaia I always made short posts that didn't really say much. I like the fact that you are encouraged to make longer posts, it makes the discussions more meaningful that way. I wonder if I'll find anyone I know here. I hope to find people to talk to here, that doesn't come easy for me. |
When I first joined, which was a few minutes ago, I took a look around the site and found it to be very similar to GaiaOnline. Which is, where I came from. XD
Second thing is, is that it looked very complicated. O.O I tried figuring out some stuff, but it all looked confusing, and yeah the guides helped a little bit but it took me awhile to find them. They should probably try putting the guides on the front page or something to help people whom are new to this place. :3 |
My first impression is a good one. I wouldn't have signed up five minutes ago if it hadn't been. Browsing the forums before I signed up was a good thing--I thought to myself, "Well tickle me pink. People here are more coherent than on Gaia."
I'm still getting a feel for the site so far, but it doesn't seem to be too hard to learn how to do things. :] |
Well, like I said in the thread about what I like about this site, I was really pleased to see that there wouldn't be any spam and that literacy was encouraged. Those are pretty big things for me because chatspeak/leet/text talk annoys me to no end.
I wasn't as put off by the difficulty of earning gold here since I actually found out about Menewsha from Roliana, and they've got a similar gold system in place over there. Also, I was really pleased at how friendly the people were who replied to my "fresh meat" thread. Even the one who tried to eat me. XD |
mine was either...
WAH?! NO SPAMMY?! or PRETTY ART! |
At first I was like "WHAT? I'm NAKID?!! GEH!" Now I'm just trying to find something I like about it.
|
Since I just started yesterday, it's still pretty fresh in my mind what I thought....KITTY EARS!! I've been a Gaian for almost 3 years, and they have yet to come out with a decent set of black cat eas and a sleek black cat tail. They have these floofy pieces of feces that they try to pass off as cat items, but really they suck. When I saw an avi on Men with black cat ears & tail, my eyes welled up with tears of joy. Finally, FINALLY!!! A community atmosphere (similar to Gaia), but with the two avi items I have been wanting the most for so long.
Also, I noticed just how polite everyone is here. It was almost "Stepford" like O_o LOL j/k I love the fact that Menewsha rewards members for being literate and using correct grammar...and since I tend to make REALLY long posts (I always have, it's not a new thing just for Menewsha), I felt at home right away. I still have so much to learn about the world of Menewsha... and with so many helpful people here, I'm sure it will be a fun adventure!! If I can figure out how to earn gold in a reasonably quick fashion (selling in the Exchange is my best bet since I can't spend all day on the computer due to a chronic illness)... I may just give all my Gaia stuff to a charity and become a full-time Menewshan. EDIT: @Morwen: yeah, I got "munched", too, in the Fresh Meat Forum. LOL |
It was like gaia but less fun cause of the rules, and how threads are locked instead of either deleted. For some reason going into a thread and having an admin at the bottom going 'Ya repeat thread. I'm just gonna go ahead and lock this, but I'm gonna leave it visible to taunt you forever. Okay? Okay...' Yeah for some reason, that irritates me. The gold earning system is odd. Why are their .gold? Like 1.5 gold? Why do we have gold in fractions? Did they break?
While I'm happy that literacy is encouraged, the lack of a place where people can just be random, even if it was a non gold earning area, kinda disappoints me. The games are also rather lame. That said some of the clothes are rather nice, but unless you're a full time user, getting the good stuff is an impossible dream. I just bought my wing things cause I have no idea. I only spend money on gaia. |
