Buying Commons VS Rare Items
So in Menewsha, with all the pretty shop items, contribution items, and event items...Which one does your gold go into? I've seen many exchanger who seem to buy limited/rare event items and contribution items only, even to the point of letting their avatars either completely nekkid to focus the fun on buying their dream items, or clothed in event items or contribution items only while they're not being sold. But then, there are many beautiful and not always cheap, common items from the regular shops. There are always people who simply love to dress up their avatars into different outfits at least once every day. Their goals is to buy all items in this site, and specially all the shop's items. Or are you the type who don't really care about items? Maybe you use the biggest portion of your gold toward buying arts? Perhaps you use them all for nothing but playing the card games? Of course, there are always the last, rare type. The ones who use their gold for nothing else but donating to other people's quests or through charity. I'm talking about people who really totally into it that even though they're very rich and have rare valuables, their avatars wear nothing but the most minimum clothing item, like only free event items, a rag, a piece of shirt, or even down to only in undies...all because they're only focusing in donating to others So, what do you think? Do you know anyone fit those descriptions? Which type of person are you? What do you use your gold you've got for? |
I'm not really that interested in buying commons, I do have enough for a couple outfits + a gown but I only buy them when I can get them at a discount, like during events or the 50% store.
I really want to finish my rares quest before it gets next to impossible so I try to keep all my gold for that. xD |
I'm questing some rares, too, as you can see if you visit my shop. (The link is in my signature.) I only buy a few cheap things when they are in the special event store otherwise.
|
I quested to get all the rare items first... that way if I decided I wanted to use them for an avi I'd have them and I wouldn't need to worry about their prices fluctuating all the time. Now that I've completed that quest I'm all about buying as many commons as possible. I can't wait until I can organize them all @[email protected];;
|
Hmm i gues im the type that buys the stores itams on only gets the itams durning the events to hold and sell them on a later date..
Thow once i get 2 more itams then i think i well be swiching to buying avi art.. but from artes who dont get many custmers.. cuss i know what it feels like when you open a shop and no one buys..it sucks..>< |
I guess I tend to save for the rare items just because I know that the longer I wait to get them, the more costly it will be. I don't spend a lot of time looking through the stores so I haven't put together a list of commons I want to buy.
|
Rares are more important to me. (especially since I'm still trying to get all of the event items and contribution items that I have missed out on.) I only buy 50% off contribution items.

I would say most exchangers quest/buy for the V-day 07 item set. Not only is it a lovely set that matches nicely with a list of other items but it's also very rare and Symbolizes wealth here on Menewsha now.
Most of the first few event items are very rare now. This including such items as: 1,000 Members Welcome Set St Patrick's Day 07 Set and of course the Valentine's Day 07 Set. But a few contribution items have already reached a highly priced state thats very hard to Achieve for the common member. These items being: The Menewshan King's & Queen's Crown Set Oriental Fan & Pudao of Time Set And the Slipper set. This is of course due to lack of members that donated for them at their given times. The Crown's being the first Set makes clear sense that they would be the rarest contribution set on Menewsha. Now for Common's...Most people own them but see..you'll notice some, like you pointed out, will not wear or own any because they are trying to quest/buy Rares. This is due to the fact that Commons DO NOT rise it profit. They have a set price and never run out of stock, they are always there when you need them and can be obtains at any time. Seeing this, many know that they can wait to earn them later after they buy the rares they want without worrying about them going up. But in some cases, such as Mine, they don't own many common's since they don't see many they like or that pertain to their tastes and are waiting for shop updates and hoping for something they will like. I hope this is helpful to anyone. <3 |
I agree with Branny for the most part. I think more exchangers have pretty much flat out said 'Screw commons.' and just buy the CIs and EIs. Common items...they'll always be in the stores. The event items..well..you have one chance to get them. If ya don't get 'em, tough shit to you.
I missed out on a LOT of the Event Items before Easter 07 (I've been here since March 07 so yeah. >_>) and I really wished I could've gotten the crown and everything. That is a big CI I missed. I was so upset. It went from like 600g to like 800g in a day and I had the 600g I needed to get one. x_x So upsetting. I think I'll be buying more CI's than EI's. |
I probably buy more commons than anything else. XD;;
I've donated real money for contribution items I liked and bought ones that were kind of eh from the exchange. As for event items, I get enough for free from the events. I missed Valentines, St. Patrick's Day '07, and New Year's, so I eventually want to buy some more V-Day '07 items, maybe a clover hairpin, and the New Year's pin. I keep spending my gold on commons though. I can't resist. o 3o The only time I went naked for a CI or EI was during my first quest for the Queen's crown when I first joined. I'm not out to hoard or be super rich; I just want enough items to be able to make nice avatars. :3 |
I buy a mix. I have all of my favorite CIs, any CI that I don't own is one I dislike.
Event items are beautiful, and I wish I could grab a set of both St. Patrick's Day items and Valentine's Day 2007 items. These things have gone over the roof though and I'm not selling any of my items I currently own just to get a set. I buy lots of commons because they are the basis of any outfit. They provide your shirt and pants as well as those last little accessories that make your avatar pop. |
When possible, Lenna buys her CIs with cold hard cash, so her goldies can go to commons. But alas, if there is an item Lenna missed, she tries to save for it if she wants it. And Lenna tries to get event items during the event...XD
If it is pretty, Lenna wants it...be it a common or rare or even FREE. XD |
It's so weird about the event items because they WERE Free but now coast a arm and leg! xD
But thats only because they are so nicely done and only a few running around. Though after the last V-event I noticed just how many there really was. It seemed like almost everyone had a V-pin from 07. x.x |
I understand where the "screw commons" come from. *nods. Sometime people post about how they love some common items and want to see those items on their avatars, but they can't spare their fund because they are questing for contribution items, so maybe they will try for it after they get the contribution items. But the fact it, since contribution items are monthly release, they will always have to keep pushing themself to get them. Sometime one set is not enough, because they haven't get the previous contribution items, and then their transactions resolved in nothing that those kind of items. It's like they already being trapped in the never-ending cycle of pursuing the contribution items only. Sometime it's not because they really want all of the items, but only because those items worth a lot and will rise in values. In the end, even after a year and maybe more, they just never really spent their gold to buy the common items that they originally would like to see on their avatars. In that case, is it still enjoyable? |
When they get all of those items they seem proud because they know they will go up in value. When the time rolls around to sell them they take the bank...but then what do they get?
I seriously think a lot of people just get all the rare items to have a sense of elitism later. I know some of you love the items, so I understand your passion to have them. Though some people do exactly what I stated. |
Quote:
But I really do love my items and they just so happen to be rare...thats just a plus. I never plan on selling them since I only have one set. x.x But I do buy a few sets of each new CI just so I can have funds later on. >.> |
Like I said, I can understand the love of these items. The quality is grade A. It's not all but some do practice this.
If you save a few maybe you should sell them cheaply later, or give them to questers? |
Hmm..maybe, but I do it for some profit. Nothing wrong with that. I'll need something to make money later on in order for to keep buying newer items.
|
I'm one of the people who went after all of my 'rare' items first. I completed my CI collection before I started buying commons, and now I'm working towards a Pot of Gold.
Once I got my V'Day Sash, though, I stopped really questing and started trying to make fun avvys. I love playing around with different styles and trying to get everything to match correctly. ^ . ^ |
I spend most of my gold on commons. I'm not really too interested in the old contribution items or event items. I will buy a CI that comes out if I really like it, but I haven't actually quested for an old one. There are some very pretty old event items that are nice, but I doubt I'd ever be able to raise the gold for the ones I want, so I just stick to the things in the regular stores. They can be just as pretty.
|
I frankly seem to use most money on event / CI's. Second automatically has to go to store items. Cause we all have to admit, they're rather pricey. @[email protected] As much as I love art however, in my old art whoring days, of the three I have spent the least amount of money in this category. But don't let it fool you since I have spent a nice sum on art as well! >_<
|
Oh man, I am so bad at saving up for rare items. XDDD
I was saving up for a king crown, and was almost there when the vday event started. Then I went and spent all my gold on the event store items. *dies* I'd have more than enough for a crown if I hadn't done that. XD Perhaps I'll sell some of the items back to the store and get my crown. o w o ;; I love my commons though. XD The 50% store is also a huge tempter with the cheap store items. >>; <333 |
I go for the rares first.
I'm questing for everything, and as far as I'm concerned, what's inflating should be bought first. |
why is everyone going for the rares first? Is it all of them or some?
|
The rares go up in price. That's why everyone questing wants them.
The 2007 Valentine's Event stuff and the St. Patrick's event stuff and the Crowns are the most expensive. |
