Right, so it's fairly obvious I'm new to Menewsha. If only because I have virtually no post count, no gold ( I keep spending it on fishing. Apparently that is a terrible way to make any money from games ), no clothing, nothing!

So! I wanted to know what you guys ( i.e. people who have been here longer than me ) felt were some of the best items to buy, being affordable to a noob like me. The vital things every Menewshan should have in their inventory. I'm not looking for answers such as `` so and so monthly donation item `` or anything that costs an arm and a leg. :D I just want to not be naked and have a good start on an inventory.

You might do best to get the most recent donation item first and shove it away in your inventory to be sold later.

However if you're just looking as clothes, buy from the half price store in the exchange. It's a sticky. n.n

I would have to go with either Gloves, stockings, belts, and/or Panties. Something basic such as white or black so it can go with whatever you end up buying along the way.

I, myself started off with a black/red dress then bought black gloves to go with. I used those gloves all the time, until I bought another set.

Of course before buying, you should have some kinda of idea of what you want your avi to look like or at least make sure you have a general concept of what you want.

I'm not new to avatar sites, but each is different and has it's different common item that just seem to go with everything. It really isn't about what I should wear, per say, more as a cataloger of stuff that's just good to have. I didn't throw it in the Avatar forum because it really isn't discussing my avatar, as it is discussing the items on Menewsha.

I should have been more specific, I guess.

the strategy i used when i first got here was to save up for a dress. i decided that this was the best strategy because some of the dresses are fairly inexpensive, and by spending gold on a dress, i could immediately cover up my avatar, rather than continuing to spend gold on smaller items trying to cover up my entire avatar. so, i decided to spend my gold on clothes, specifically an item that would cover my entire avatar, and then spend gold on cheaper accessories to make my avatar more exciting later. i don't know if that's the strategy that you want to use, but that's the one i used.

I was actually wondering about that too! And I haven't seen a preview button for the clothes in the shops. I rely on that quite a bit on Gaia. lol. So I don't know what to buy because I don't know what would look god or not.

I've actually downloaded the dream avi generator (MAC? or something?) but I don't think it has everything in it. o.o;; It doesn't have the pages and pages of clothes that I saw in the shops.

I am naked too and I plan on staying that way for a while lol. Not really because I like it... its just I would rather save up my gold and get the old donation item and the old EIs before they go up really high and unreachable.

I can get clothes anytime. Or commons their price does not go up.

Makes you wonder how long it will be before we are dressed to impress.

Very versatile items.
So far, one of my best purchases was the plain black eyepatch. It's super cheap, but SO handy. I seem to almost always have black in my avatars, and since there aren't many face items, I can always use the eyepatch.

Another great item is the rhapsody shorts.
They're just long enough to stick out from under dresses and skirts. But they're not so long that they cover your socks or shoes.
They're perfect. :D

I think any of the basic shirts would help also. They're only 150g and can actually work pretty well in a lot of situations if you have the correct color for them.


Also, fishing starts becoming profitable at about 300 experience. Wait until you've got a bit more gold and clothing before really doing a lot with that would by my advice. Speaking of, I should go fishing for today right now.

Okay - disregarding collectibles (old event rares and Contribution Items and limited editions)....

Anything that you might use in several different outfits is what you'd want to go for first. XD

A basic teeshirt (I'd go for a black or white one, personally), any sort of shoes you like, gloves or armguards you like, etc.

Accessories! Scarves, the black waspie, stockings...

Cheap skirts if you're a girl, basic black pants for guys...

Dresses are nice - but there are limited ways of using them later when creating new outfits. The "bigger" the dress, the more difficult it is to make it different from everyone else who sports that same dress. It can be done, but it usually involves expensive collectibles. XD

After you're sort of 'settled in' with a basic outfit or two, you'll want items like hand-helds (weapons, mostly) or pets or anything else that will change the basic 'shape' of your avatar.

Anyway, here's a basic check-list in baaasic order of my suggested priority:

- Torso item (shirt, bra)
- Bottom item (skirt, pants)
- Legs item (stockings or pants)
- Versatile Accessory (scarf, bandanna, gloves, etc)
- Arm item (long-sleeved shirt and/or arm-guard/sleevelet)
- Feet item (shoez!)

Then build-up from there. XD

Wow, there were a lot of replies to this. Someone pointed out on page one that there isn't a preview - which made me realize getting advice from others may help me out all that much more since I can't preview.

Once you start figuring out what's out there to purchase, it'll be easier to figure out where you want to spend your money first. XD

If you're trying to conserve your gold, absolutely try out the 50% store or other Exchange thread shops. Many people are selling off their commons cheaply to be able to afford rare items, so you can get some nice deals if you're willing to hunt around and wait a bit. XD

I'm too impatient. If I can't close a deal within a post or three, I lose interest. So, in general, I purchase through the NPC shops, even though it's more expensive. xD;

To be fully on-topic... I recommend you put off buying most jewelry for awhile. There is some jewelry that you can purchase that will help change the look of your avatar for cheap (I love the spiked wrist-cuffs), but you're probably better off buying clothes until you have at least one complete outfit. XD

In my humble opinion; your mileage may vary; caution - contents of cup may be hot.

I can't help but want to keep fishing. Honestly. I need to get away from that.

Yeah, the shop layouts are kind of hard to get used to since they're on lists and span multiple pages. I have no inventory, but i've seen some ss's. and I wish shops were kinda set up like that. it's part of the reason for my asking this stuff. rooting through is daunting.

Fishing is the only game proven to eventually be profitable. XD So it's not a bad thing to fish! It's just frustrating the first several days. XD

Menewsha is getting a make-over very shortly... The shops will still have long lists of items, but they'll be much easier to navigate as a whole, so it evens out, I think. XD

Fishing gets to be all profit once you get more experience, so don't stop now! ^^

Some items I personally use often and love are the eyepatches, fishnet stockings, bandannas, and superstar headphones (though these are a bit expensive at 1500g). The eyepatch was my first item on Menewsha and I've always worn either the original black one or one of the pirate eyepatches I bought later on. Good way to add a bit of colour to the face area. :) The original fishnet stockings layer great under skirts; I like that you can see the band on them unlike the temptress fishnets, which go up higher. I've been using a bandanna in almost every outfit lately. There are so many colours and they are very good for adding a colour at your neck or covering up part of a top. Lately I've been liking cutie scarves as well, usually on top of a bandanna. The headphones are just plain awesome. :'D

I don't like dresses much either, but I think the Valentine's (chocolate, strawberry truffle, and golden toffee) ones are great. They are short enough to be used as tops if you prefer. I also have to second Cherry Flavored Antacid's suggestion for the rhapsody shorts, for the same reasons.

I think the eye patch was suggested twice. Along with some other things - which is really helpful.

I really like the uh.. What are they? They're black wings on peoples heads. I was never a wing on the head kind of person but they look really neat on Menewsha.

Raven Headwings. XD They were one of March's two Contribution Items.

They're still relatively affordable - around 350 gold, last I checked, in the Exchange!

If you like them, I'd absolutely save for those first. They're very versatile items.

I also wanted to say that the jabot is one of the accessory type items I've got a huge amount of use out of. XD So if you like fluffy collars at the neck, that's also a good purchase!

Man, I was trying to avoid jumping into an item that may inflate quickly before I get the gold together for it!

Let's see if I can do it. :D It's really adorable, and I see them all over. I can't help but want them now. Especially since a lot of the input in this thread gave me ideas for a potential avatar. Yipes!

Right now really is the best time to get the Raven Headwings, though. ;3 If you keep posting and investing in the fishing game, you'll earn up enough gold to get them before they inflate too much. It's only the first few hundred gold that seems like it takes forever!
