And it's become quite expensive, not to mention it's hard to find a shop that's not on hiatus or full lol.

I once ordered a piece of art on Gaia that I was really looking forward to.
But after 4-5months of the artist saying "I still need to get my colored pencils replaced" I canceled my order.
It was a ridiculous amount of time to be waiting, imo. And rarely (if ever) was her updates enough more than about getting new colored pencils. :roll:

@ Estrella : Now you make me feel guilty. >.<;; I have a pending art piece since... let's not say. D: But the commissioner hasn't said a word and hasn't been active, so I'm at a loss on what to do. :x

Yeah i had a similar situation with a girl who kept saying "Your art will be done at such n such time". After 2 months i just told her it was ridiculous, especially since there were no updates either. It's not fair that they expect you to wait that long with false promises and no updates. It's rather frustrating.

It depends on why it's pending? Is it cause you need to confirm things with them? Cause if that's the case and it's on their end, then it's not your fault.

Well, when I went on hiatus from Mene due to university, I left a message saying that the art would be even more delayed than normal. And then now that I'm back, I PMed the commissioner again asking if they still want me to continue the art piece. It HAS been quite some time since June, so I'm not even sure they would want the art piece. >.<;; Either way, I feel so bad. D: </3

Ry - At least you admitted that you didn't have time. This person was just being a friggin' flake. She KEPT ACCEPTING ORDERS even though she had me + 3 other orders on her plate. :roll:

Right now I'm entering some of the art contests here on Mene. But, I promised myself that I will not take ANY commissions or do any art auctions until this commissioner replies to me. ^^ That, or maybe till the start of the next year. xDD;; Not like I have time to do commissions in the first place anyway. XP

Ry - I think it's good not to take anymore commissions. That was just friggin' irritating.

But if the person doesn't communicate with you, then it's probably that he/she has forgotten totally about it.
They may even have left Mene!

@ Estrella : I think it's a policy artists should follow, personally. =O It shows respect for the commissioners, and that you're not money-grubbing by taking any commission you can get. xDD;; Sure, you're gonna lose opportunities by not taking any more commissions, but come on, if those opportunities showed themselves then, there will surely be more opportunities showing up after you finish your workload. xDD;; <3<3

I'm always thinking: I should be the kind of artist I myself would commission in a heartbeat. xDD;; Still haven't gotten to that level, but I'm working on it. ^^;;

Yeah i guess i'd be slightly irritated by that, no offense. Especially if it was an auction. Cause if you win an auction you expect the art to be done in a timely fashion. UNLESS when you PMed them they were okay with the delay. But yeah in saying that it has been a very long time since June - especially for art. But eh, i dunno i'm not that person. That's just how i'd feel about it lol.

That's what happened to me ... I told this chick off coz it had been months since she had made any updates, and then a bunch of other people cancelled trades and made comments after me haha.

I have never ordered art from anybody.

There was only the time I won art in a contest during an event, and I never got it.

WHATT? That sucks Jean! Why not?
