I can't go to 3D movies or the HUGE screen (IMAX?) movies.

It can kick off a Menier's attack, and I fall to the floor...

Linnea 01-02-2012 06:37 PM

what is a menier's attack? i don't think i've ever heard of that

and i can do those big screen/imax, etc type of screens so maybe i don't

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 06:39 PM

Menier's Disease is a kind of vertigo thing.

An attack would be like when you sit in a swivel chair and the spin you around and around and then stop.

It's THAT feeling, only it doesn't go away for a long time (generally 15 minutes to half an hour for me...even longer for others).

Then you start sweating profusely and barf.

Then you sleep for 24 hours.

Such fun.

Linnea 01-02-2012 06:42 PM

 wow, that's so not good

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 06:44 PM

I'm fortunate... I only have a real attack about every 3 years or so...

But I do get little vertigo "swirls" often. I'm so used to them now, they don't even break my stride.

Linnea 01-02-2012 06:45 PM

so is it one of those things that always happen every three years abouts? or is there a way you can prevent it?

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 06:47 PM

Not generally... I stay away from things that I know can kick it off like IMAX movies and carnival rides.

One attack was brought on by a computer game! lol...

One minute I'm sitting at the computer, and the next I'm crawling on the floor...

Linnea 01-02-2012 06:52 PM

oh wow! that must have been a heck of a computer game!

but at least you know that you have it and try to stay clear

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 06:53 PM

I also take an antihistamine every day.
I think that helps. I haven't had a full-blown attack for almost 5 years now.

Queen_Andais 01-02-2012 06:56 PM

Glad to hear that you are functioning properly, Jean. Sounds kind of scary, these attacks. How old were you when they started?

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 06:57 PM

Thanks for coming around, Queen!

The first attack came when I was about 35.
I got out of bed (it was dark out), and I couldn't stand up! I just kept falling over.
I thought I had a brain tumor or something...

Queen_Andais 01-02-2012 07:02 PM

That's craziness. Are they genetic condition or is it something inspired by surroundings?

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:03 PM

It's an inner ear thing.

The little cilia in there that give you balance get all confused...

Linnea 01-02-2012 07:04 PM

yea that is pretty good, jean! the five year thing i mean

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:05 PM

Well, enough about me!

So what diseases do you guys have?

(lol...)

Linnea 01-02-2012 07:08 PM

i don't think i really have anything... i'm a major clutz... does that count as a disease??

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:11 PM

Ah yes, the dreaded Klutz disease!

It's contagious you know!

Queen_Andais 01-02-2012 07:11 PM

Yeah, my health issues ended when I got the gall bladder removed. It was turning traitorous.

Oh lord...I need to go home and get away from my friend's house. My attitude is not one to deal with stupidity.

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:13 PM

I don't have a gall bladder anymore either.
My appendix bit the dust in September...

Hubby wants to trade me in as defective merchandise.

Is your friend being stupid, Queen?

Linnea 01-02-2012 07:17 PM

ah so it is a disease... i knew it -__-

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:19 PM

Yup, Linn...I'm sure it must be!

It's also genetic. My step daughter trips over lines on the floor just like her father...

Kat Dakuu 01-02-2012 07:30 PM

what's genetic?

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:40 PM

Genetic...passed down in the genes from parent to child...

Kat Dakuu 01-02-2012 07:42 PM

I know what it means, but what are you talking about!

Jeannesha 01-02-2012 07:43 PM

lol...We were talking about he Klutz disease....
