as in nofiction stories?

Jeannesha 05-06-2012 10:26 PM

Isn't that what true means?

Kat Dakuu 05-06-2012 10:27 PM

yes. I was just askin.

Jeannesha 05-06-2012 10:29 PM

lol...

I love that magazine.
It's kind of a non-denominational magazine of inspiring, sometimes religious stories.
Quite a few celebrities contribute stories.

Kat Dakuu 05-06-2012 10:59 PM

hm. I suppose that would be interesting, but I still prefer fiction.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 03:28 PM

There used to be some SF/Fantasy magazines that took stories.
They encouraged new writers.

I can't think of their names now though...

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 06:41 PM

i know of two sci-fi magazines and one sci-fi/fantasy.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 06:43 PM

You should write for one of the Fantasy mags.

I think it's Amazing Stories?

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 06:44 PM

I haven't heard of that one.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 06:50 PM

I'm not even sure it's around.
Try googling it.

I know that they used to encourage new writers, and they were always asking for stories.

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:06 PM

I found an old science fiction magazine.
this? Amazing Stories - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:14 PM

I see from that story that the last issue was in 2005.
That's too bad.

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:16 PM

yeah. that magazine doesn't appear to be active anymore.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:17 PM

But there are others.
You should send them some of your stories!

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:21 PM

i found the website for the scifi/fantasy magazine I used to get. its funny, the site says they mostly get fantasy submissions, but I don't think I ever read a true fantasy story in them. mostly it was all paranormal. I stopped getting the magazine because the stories weren't very good. they do take unsolicited submissions though.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:25 PM

Before sending anything to any magazine, you should copyright it.
Do they cover anything about that in your writing classes?

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:26 PM

copyright? no, I don't know anything about this. I've only taking beginner writing classes so far, so they wouldn't talk about that. since I'm not a writing major, I also won't have to take the classes where they would talk about that. my dad probably knows about this stuff. I'll talk to him.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:29 PM

That would be good. You don't want somebody stealing your stories...

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:32 PM

yeah. I'm sure I'll get things figured out before i start submitting work. my goal for the summer is to get published though. I need to build up a portfolio of good short stories.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:43 PM

It's a good goal to have...but probably really hard to do.
I know that some people go years without getting published.

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:46 PM

true. i'm going to start with L. Ron Hubbard's writing of the future contest for unpublished writers.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:49 PM

I've never read any of his books...

He's the Scientology founder, right?

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 07:51 PM

I don't know much of anything about him.

Jeannesha 05-07-2012 07:57 PM

Well, you should go for it anyway!

Kat Dakuu 05-07-2012 08:00 PM

of course. I really like the writers of the future books.
