yeah, it's supposed to be easier to type and you don't get gold from it and all that.
I like a recognizable sig, so even when people change their avis or username, I still know them. I haven't changed my sig in ever either.

I don't really look at people's sigs to tell who they are. XD
I just look at their avatar. Then if they change it, look at the name and go back to looking at the avatar. :)
