Well, we never got the ribs.

Instead we got to see the inside of the emergency room.

Hubby spent all day smoking the ribs.
Then as he was getting the potatoes ready to fry, he sliced the tip of his finger right off in the mandolin.

We couldn't get it to stop bleeding, so we went to the ER.
They cauterized it. Today we went to a hand surgeon. He said that it should heal in a couple of months.

He is so pissed at himself...this really screws up his plans for cooking for his family at Christmas time.

Instead, I'll be doing the work, and he'll have to direct me. lol...THAT should be interesting!

Meanwhile, he's in a lot of pain...he has trouble with Vicodin, so he's only taking Advil.

I know...I retrieved the piece and took it with us to the ER.
Of course they can't sew it back on...it was too small...

But it made me really queasy just looking at it.
He was almost passing out too.

But on the bright side...they won't be able to identify him by his fingerprint anymore!

uuuhhhh! that's horrible! I would freak the hell out if it was me.

yeah...? that a um...plus. it's probably easier to just burn off your prints.

I was pretty shaken, but I knew I had to suck it up, cuz I had to drive to the ER.
It was dark out too, and I can't see at night.

Fortunately, the hospital we went to isn't too far from here, and the traffic there wasn't too bad.

That mandolin cost almost $50 too...
The first thing he did when we got home was chuck it in the garbage.

He said I could take it out, but he was never going to use it again.
I decided that it made him feel better to have it thrown away, so I just left it.

Besides, I sure didn't want to use it...

I wouldn't use something that hurt me or a loved one that badly either.

I think he's suffering from a bit of PTSD now.

He said that the thing that's driving him nuts is that it keeps replaying over and over in his mind...only each time he slices more of the finger off.

I don't know how he can get that to stop.

Get him to use one and not hurt himself? I wouldn't recommend one that he was just using, but rather one more safety precautions.

There are plenty of safety things on mandolins...but hubby just wasn't using it.

There's a thing to hold the food, but you have to get the food started first.
He got the potato started, but just didn't stop in time.

I actually was just about to say "shouldn't you be using the holder"?

Ah, is there anyway that he can cook or do something at all? From the way your husband sounds he likes to keep busy.

He was in a bit of a funk...but that's because he's just not used to hurting.

I think he's coming out of it a bit...at least enough to keep busy focusing on something else like his computer...

Ish...today we had to change the dressing.
He had to soak it for awhile, and then I had to put the new dressing on.
