The Room was originally slated to be a prequel to 2. It consisted of James being in a room with the corpse of his wife. The idea was trashed when it was dubbed "too edgy."

It's not even really a part of the series. It was only made a Silent Hill game because Konami didn't think anybody would buy a game called "The Room"
