For one thing, I would completely disregard the movies if you want to get into the video game series. Often times I've talked to people who say that they really enjoyed those bastardizations and then I would later find out from them that they have never actually played the game. Some people actually don't know that it's based off of a video game series.

Another thing, the games have changed little by little over the years. The early games in the series run by this mechanism of movement called 'Tank-movement'/ 'Tank-something'. Basically, instead of simply going forward, backward, left, and right, you have to move like a tank. (Moving forward, turn around, forward again. Pressing down button just makes them walk backwards. It's hard for me to explain.) When it reached RE4, the environment went from fixed angles of a pre-rendered background to a camera that was behind the character.

I would start from the beginning and move up if you really want to get into the story and general series. The graphics in the first game aren't all that great, but they were in 1997. Resident Evil 2 was a major step up in graphics (but not like how Silent Hill 2 was from the first Silent Hill) and the story is great. I personally think that RE2 is better than the first. Resident Evil 3 is kind of tricky. It takes place before the events of RE2 and two days after RE2 at the same time. (Don't worry, there is a transitional point in the game.) Nemesis will have you freaking the fuck out in RE3 because he appears at inconvenient times and will chase you down (until certain destinations are reached) if you choose not to fight him. RE3 also has slightly better graphics than RE2. Code Veronica involves Claire from RE2 and some others. I thought that it was a pretty good game although it often times has be saving and quitting about halfway through because it has you go through a lot of crap almost all the time. It also has much improved graphics from RE3. Now...after Code Veronica, I just went straight to Resident Evil 4 which includes Leon from RE2 and some others. There was a remake of the first Resident Evil that came out for gamecube which is really better than the original in graphics and dialogue, but I still prefer the original. Resident Evil 0 was too "off" to me. (I played it and beat it a few times, but I don't love it enough to play it all the time.) FPS games like Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles for wii are fun, but only if you have people to play them with. I haven't played Resident Evil 5, but I wouldn't get a PS3 to play it. The series really started going down the shitter after RE4.

If you want realistic graphics, then I guess Code Veronica and up are the ways to go, but you won't know the significance of anyone unless you start from the beginning. Beware, The first Resident Evil game (and sort of the second) has terrible voice acting and lines, but they were meant to be like a B-Horror movie. I would recommend reading up about these on wikipedia, but then it would also ruin the games for you. In my opinion, I would just try to get your hands on the games I mentioned besides Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles, and RE5. Play everything else mentioned, but know that you're going to need a PS2, and a Gamecube.

Ooh, I'm terrible at that kind of moving (turning, then pressing forward). :gonk: But I suppose I'd get the hang of it.

How is the gameplay? Like the battling? That's my main concern. If there are a ton of zombies/monsters/whatever running at you and you have to be shooting at them constantly while also doing other stuff, I won't be able to do it. But if it's more like Silent Hill where you can clear out a room and then go about your business, I'll be okay. Also, are there difficulty settings?

You're never faced with endless hoards of zombies. You just clear a room and that's it. The zombie's and other enemies don't come back. The gameplay IS rather similar to Silent Hill's (exploring, finding clues, solving riddles, fighting enemies), so you're good.

I don't remember if the ORIGINAL original RE has difficulty settings, but the Director's Cut of the original has "Rookie Mode", "Normal Mode", and "Advanced Mode". RE2 uses "Rookie", "Normal", and "Hard". RE3 uses "Easy" and "Hard". And it goes on and on in different ways as the games go by except the difficulty settings will sometimes be labeled differently.

If there's anything I left out, just remind me and I'll answer it when I come back. Demo needs her sleep.

Oh, good, that sounds Cherry-friendly, then.

How is aiming? Is it fairly automatic (like in SH)?

/totally forgot about this (sorry)

I think that, by default, the aim isn't automatic, but you can turn auto-aim on in the config options. :P

I dunno, Heather's bulletproof vest was pretty helpful in SH3, so maybe it wasn't a total waste! :D

I guess, but it slows you down. WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE SOMEHOW TRANSPORTED INTO THE REALM OF THE SILENT HILL 3 GAME AND WHATEVER ASSHOLE OF A GOD DID IT PUT YOU IN HARD MODE??? IT WILL BE HELL TRYING TO GET AROUND WITH HINDERED SPEED! even though the monsters hit harder so the defensive thing is good n all... OH THE CHOICES! :gonk:

The obvious choice is to carry the vest in a wheelbarrow behind you :D

But then you would still be slowed down. How do you expect to avoid monsters in narrow hallways, let alone navigate through narrow hallways, with a wheelbarrow? :<

And to check every doorknob and random pile of boxes for unlimited submachine guns and lightsabers. ;D If I'm not going for a 10-star rating in life, I don't see why I should in an alternate life! And then instead of fighting whatever asshole of a god put me on hard mode, I'll just shoot Claudia in the face before she kills my dad. :3

But that's a good point; it's gonna be hard to get my wheelbarrow through the mall and on the subway. D: But maybe my wheelbarrow is magical and just follows me around on its own! And is also invisible!

But then that would make things FAR too easy for you. The asshole gods cannot have that! You'll get to suffer through the same things Heather suffered through.

It would be funny to see a Numb Body or a Closer trip over the invisible wheelbarrow though.

I will mow down everything in my path with my wheelbarrow. And I can put it on my head to sneak past PH... he'll totally think I'm one of his own.
