Wow Queen, that's a GREAT rate!!! I may have to hire you. No kids, but you can still do the picking up.

Queen_Andais 07-06-2009 05:52 PM

You're too funny. Like I said, most of my babysitting was done for single moms with a couple of kids and they deserve a little time to themselves to have fun. Why not help them out. They usually tipped me too, so life wasn't bad.

GeminiKizzy 07-07-2009 03:51 AM

They must have loved you. Whenever I sat for someone I just let them pay me what they felt was okay. I felt funny asking for specific prices.

Queen_Andais 07-07-2009 06:32 PM

Did do this one babysitting gig for a family. The husband traveled all the time, so the wife was always with the kids. So for a weekend I watched the kids while mom and dad spent time together in Santa Barbara. Made $300. That's what the mom said she would pay since I was there all weekend and had to take time off work to be there. It was awesome.

Technically I am not babysitting I am providing a daycare service... For infants it is about 900-1k here for daycare but I am not going to charge that to a family member unless she starts getting to the point of not paying me... I am just shy of being licensed, and certified in all the areas I need to be to be considered a "daycare" provider. Babysitting is a bad word in my line of work because I don't just sit and watch TV... Today was Jayden's first day and because there isn't a TON of things you can do with a 6 week old we did a few minutes of tummy time... We talked to her etc... Plus I have an infant "game" book I used with Michael and Sean... As she gets older we'll do more and more activities and start forming a set schedule... That is all part of daycare, it is just done in my home with my kids around as well! Sorry that is a rant influenced by my teacher... Most daycare teachers are not viewed as professionals... Mostly because many don't have the education to back them as a professional... But those people are taking care of our most precious commodities, our kids they are aiding us in the teaching of our children... From rolling over to ABC's and on... I think they (at least MOST) deserve the recognition. I mean we do it for elementary teachers and on!

Really sorry... I am done I swear...

Queen_Andais 07-08-2009 12:13 AM

No worries Jaz. We weren't trying to down play what you do. Honestly, I've taken child psychology, helped raise my cousin's two boys. There are a lot of elements that are crucial in child development.
You as a daycare provider/instructor should be commended for taking the time to learn what is necessary in the progression of a child's learning curve.

When I babysit, it's not just me on the couch watching television. It's engaging the kids in playing games, being active physically or mentally. Babies are my favorite. They are so eager to learn.

Hiya Jessi!

I know my daughter's caregiver likes to be viewed as a professional service and really she should be for the care they get there. Daycare is expensive here *sigh* but I am so glad to have someone who deserves every penny we give her! My youngest has been with her going on 4 years now. It costs us 35 a day for full days, 25 for 1/2 days when she is in kindergarten.

Queen_Andais 07-08-2009 06:08 PM

Hopefully when I have kids, my parents will be retired and they can watch the kid/kids when Rodd and I are at work.

Bilbo 07-09-2009 06:43 PM

Hey all, just popping in real quick to say I'm still around, but I've been busy with putting together a massive mailing, which I can't do at my desk. And evenings have been all tied up by Ellie...*sigh* I'll hopefully be back to normal tomorrow.

Queen_Andais 07-09-2009 06:57 PM

Oh sure. You'll come back the day I am not here. *dies of boredom*

GeminiKizzy 07-10-2009 01:27 AM

My dad watched my kid for his 1st year. After that my dad couldn't keep up (back problems) so we started going to the same daycare that my sis used. It was an in-home daycare so it was close-knit and small (redundant?) so it was awesome.

Leela 07-10-2009 01:28 AM

Aww, I read about the fun job you have to do..>.<

Bilbo 07-10-2009 01:55 PM

Well, I'm going to be away today as well...my boss only asked one other person to help me (out of the 12 people that COULD help), so it's been going rather slowly. I'm just praying to get through it all today...

EternalHearts 07-11-2009 01:57 AM

OMG, Ellie and I made a modified version of the zucchini lasagna posted in Sia's page--we made a full-sized lasagna, and did a great job! Next time we'll use a little more ricotta and cook the zucchini less, but it was wonderful.

Jaz 07-12-2009 11:18 PM

Man I am hungry... and I don't want to cook >.>.... EH that sounds soooooo yummy!

@ Lala: Your post about daycare 35 dollars a day is about average I'd assume... 20 dollars a day is what a person who receives help from the government here pays.... I want to open my own in home really soon... But it is a lot of foot work and first I'll have to get a home to do it in!

Queen_Andais 07-15-2009 05:22 PM

Happened to look through the company policy on other programs that they offer to employees concerning various different things. Two of them really stuck out in my mind:
1. They offer reimbursement for adoption. Up to $8000 for people adopting a child. How awesome is that?
2. Child care is reimbursed to a certain extent. Depending on the age of the child and if they are in a formal daycare setting or a family member over 17 is watching them. Didn't know that the company did that.

Bilbo 07-16-2009 05:16 PM

Wow Queen, those are some great benefits your company offers.

Queen_Andais 07-16-2009 05:55 PM

The company can be cheap about certain stuff, but they make up for it in other ways. For those of us that make under a certain amount of money per year, they give us this health spending card that has $600-$1200 on it for health related costs. Co pays, prescriptions, and what nots. So great. Going to get sunglasses with some of the money on the card. Why not, right? It's there to spend and it gets replenished at the beginning of the year. Woohoo!

Bilbo 07-16-2009 08:08 PM

That IS pretty good. They have any branches in MA and need part-time help? I may be leaving my job to go back to school.

EternalHearts 07-18-2009 02:49 AM

Well, I'm sure not all of you have seen this on Facebook or other places (I honestly can't remember where I've posted it), but Wednesday I got the acceptance letter from Northeastern! Yesterday I told my boss, and am waiting for her to decide if I can reduce my hours to part-time while I'm in school. It's so nerve-wracking thinking about being in school again, but I'm also very excited at the same time.

Jaz 07-18-2009 06:05 PM

CONGRATS EH!!!! I don't think I have you as a friend on facebook... I think I have Lala and Fawnie on there but no one else that comes to mind!!!! What is your facebook I'll add you!

EternalHearts 07-18-2009 09:37 PM

You should be able to find me through this name.

Jaz 07-19-2009 01:45 AM

found ya! And added ya!

Bilbo 07-21-2009 06:31 PM

Welcome to my Facebook!! It's always a little strange seeing 'new'names for people.

Jaz 07-23-2009 05:31 PM

Yeah it is! I knew what your first name was before though because of seeing people refer to you by it here!
