roocee 03-20-2008 01:01 PM

whitebeast 03-20-2008 01:07 PM

Speaking of looking for a job, I have an interview tomorrow!! I've been trying to get a job at one of the schools that offers the Grad degree I want to pursue, but there are only 4 of them in the state. So I've been applying and applying, to no avail. I'm REALLY hoping this interview pans out for me.

siaasgn 03-20-2008 06:03 PM

Ohh - good luck - best wishes and good thought going your way!!

I've been applying all over trying to get into a library but I'm not having much luck at all. It's getting frustrating that my degree is wasting away while I sit in this dead end secretary job.

xuvrette 03-20-2008 06:33 PM

Library? *tilts head*
I don't know, but I always thought librarians are volunteer works. *shot*

siaasgn 03-20-2008 06:38 PM

Not sure about where you are- but here Librarians are most definitely not volunteers. Most librarian jobs require a Masters in Library and Information Science - and University libraries want 2 masters degree - 1 in LIS and 1 in the area you work (so if you are a law librarian not only do you need a library degree you also need a law degree)

For the level of education that is required librarians are severely underpaid - but most of us do it because we believe librarians are important and fulfill a social need (or some other reason that doesn't involve money)

xuvrette 03-20-2008 06:41 PM

NO no, I am under influence of school librarians when we are in primary and secondary schools. All librarians are students volunteer.

siaasgn 03-20-2008 06:43 PM

There's not one paid librarian in the school library - that's strange.

I know there are student volunteers to shelve and do other menial things - but there us almost always a librarian to oversee and teach library skills. :/

xuvrette 03-20-2008 06:58 PM

Really?
Of course there is one or 2 adult loooking over. But those are teachers. Much like a part time job? lol.

Like this, treat Librarian as a kind of club. The teachers are advisers. Like that. lol. We don't call those teachers in the library librarian, we call them teachers. lol. and they teach.

My 1st encounter with a real librarian in school library is in College. Where it is a private college which means more money to spend to hire librariain... I guess.

Queen_Andais 03-20-2008 07:55 PM

*raises hand* I was a student Librarian. That class was the best. It was me and one other student for 3rd period, once we got our work done we could mess around on the internet if we wanted too.

xuvrette 03-20-2008 08:07 PM

lol. Ours are pure paperwork. lol. No computer in my primary and secondary librarys.

Government, lol.

siaasgn 03-21-2008 12:58 PM

 No computers in libraries - wow.

I don't think most people could function in a library without a computer at this point- I know my my University most of our journal collection is only available online.

Not even computers for the catalog?

I know when I was in elementary school we still used a card catalog - but by the time I was in high school we had an electronic catalog.

xuvrette 03-21-2008 04:25 PM

nah, government is poor, because they eat the money(bribery) of our taxes. So the government schools elementary and secondary are not all that advancel.
They should be thankful to even have a working computer in their office.

Queen_Andais 03-21-2008 04:35 PM

Sia in our high school there was still the paper catalog for the book listing. Kind of crazy, but true. Although they were working on making everything digital since the school had won an award and crap load of money to make the entire school digital. Most of the class rooms had at least 3 computers, even the math classes. There were also a few computer labs and the library had 20 computers I think and they were wiring for more.

xuvrette 03-21-2008 04:37 PM

wow! That sure is lucky~ <3

siaasgn 03-21-2008 07:40 PM

That's pretty cool - we didn't have computers in every classroom or anyhting like that- we did have TV in ever room and watch the morning announcements on it as well as Channel 1 news.

I remember there were 3 computer labs (I think) but that's about it - high school has been a while.

Queen_Andais 03-21-2008 07:47 PM

High school has been 6 years for me, but I still go back and see my senior english teacher because he is freakin' awesome. And he actually remembers my name. He also had my little sister her junior year.

xuvrette 03-21-2008 08:34 PM

I forgot all my teachers in old school.

siaasgn 03-21-2008 08:35 PM

It's been 10 years for me and I haven't gone back - my youngest brother graduated about 5 years ago (I think).

I actually keep looking for something about a 10 year reunion - but I haven't heard anything - I have a feeling it's not going to happen

xuvrette 03-21-2008 08:44 PM

I bet everyone forgets. DX 10 years is not a short time.

Queen_Andais 03-21-2008 11:02 PM

*shrugs* 10 years would be interesting. Just to see where those snotty little bitches that thought they were all that and then some ended up. Fat, pregnant and with no career...that's asking for a lot isn't it?

Leela 03-23-2008 03:34 PM

Morning Eternal!
