I've never gotten a flu shot before, and have always been fine. But, one of the schools I'm interning at is doing a free clinic, so I might just get one since I'm interning at 2 schools and attend a third one. Plus my 4-day/week commute via public transportation AND the fact that Ellie's job is community-based, working with some of the dregs of society. I think I want to try to be a little safer this year.

Melody 09-17-2010 06:57 PM

xD Probably a good idea Eternal.

Normally I don't get one, but the kids and Scott do. I figure I mostly stay at home with them so if they're protected I should be as well. But Kura didn't get one last year, and it totally sucked since she got sick 3 times from the kids at her new school. I totally should have thought about that but it just didn't occur to me. So this year I'm thinking we should all get one and see how it goes. I really don't want to spend so much time being sick this year.
I was sick during the embryo transfer...I was so afraid I would cough the little things out! D:

:D I just remember my former boss telling me about the one time she got the flu shot--she had never been sick before, and she got VERY sick right after getting it, and now gets the flu every year. So I'm worried about that, but it might be worth the risk this year.

Melody 09-17-2010 09:10 PM

I knew a person that only got the flu after they got the flu shot, but it's not the case for most people. Some people are just super unlucky!

morquarwen 09-19-2010 01:04 AM

Toni got 3 shots at her physical this year - tetanus, MMR and meningitis, which apparently is required at 12 years and I didn't know. I told her no shots and oops - she got 3. She was like mom not only has the hot doctor seen my drawers I get shots to, she was maaaaad at me lol.

But - so excited!! Elise is taking steps!! She took a few yesterday, and more today. And a little while ago I got her to walk to me, I think a total of 16 steps. She only stopped because I ran out of room to back up, if there would have been more room I bet she would have gone longer. I cant wait to tell her therapists on Tuesday!!

EternalHearts 09-23-2010 06:16 PM

That's so wonderful about Elsie!!!

roocee 09-23-2010 07:07 PM

I so need to go down and see her walking but I've been busy lately in the evenings. Plus my car just totally sucks ass right now. I have no air/heat/fan. My service engine soon light is on with they tell me is the EGR valve is clogged so that could be a small expense or big. It's always something.

Melody 09-23-2010 07:32 PM

Gotta love cars and how necessary they have become in our lives. >.< It totally sucks that you haven't seen her walking yet, but that just means the next time you get down there she can walk/run to see you!!

roocee 09-23-2010 07:34 PM

I sure hope so, that would be great to see her run.

Yeah my car hates me right now. I just paid it off too and so of course now that the money that went to my car payment is tied up in something else until January. If these issues don't cost more than what the payment for the car was though, I will still be ok I think to hold off until next spring and get a couple other bills paid off.

Melody 09-23-2010 08:34 PM

lol, we had that problem after paying off our car too. We paid it off with the tax return from this year. We were so excited to get the pink slip for it in the mail...and what happens next? A tire pops and then some hose needs to be replaced, but it's one of those damn hoses that the mechanics have to replace because it's tucked up in the engine being all difficult to get at so the pay by the hour labor work cost SUCKS. </3

roocee 09-23-2010 08:47 PM

Yes that's what I'm worried about. Neither part I need are expensive but labor is killer.

Melody 09-23-2010 08:52 PM

It almost makes me want to go to school to become a mechanic. I bet they get paid nicely...not to mention you wouldn't have to pay for work to be done on your own car since you could do it yourself!

Though if it's a simple thing that needs to be done, you might want to see about doing it yourself. The beginning of the year our rear view mirror popped off it's little rotatey thing and the dealership wanted $200 to replace it. I went looking on ebay and found a new rear view mirror for $40, bought it and Scott was able to install in with a hex key in like 5 minutes. I couldn't believe how much the dealership was trying to increase the price on us! It was totally ridiculous! Money grubbing jerks...

roocee 09-24-2010 01:14 PM

Oh totally. My roommate's "boyfriend" is coming out today to look and see if he can take the valve off. If he can, he will see if it can be unclogged and put it back on. That will save me some.

Melody 09-24-2010 01:25 PM

Awesome!

lol. "boyfriend"

roocee 09-24-2010 01:54 PM

Well I'm not exactly sure what he is right now. It's a L O N G story.

EternalHearts 09-24-2010 02:35 PM

Mel (and everyone else too), a lot of technical schools or community colleges offer car repair classes. Pretty basic stuff, but it's more than most people know.

Melody 09-24-2010 02:59 PM

hmmmm I'll look at the course schedule for the community college right down the street. Thanks for the heads up!

and it's cool roo. I have a friend who has a "boyfriend" They've dated on and off since high school and decided to be stupid about sex and now have a baby together and can't stop fighting...but at the same time neither wants to be the one that ducks out on a baby so they're in a relationship...but not. It's...pathetic. And not good for their newborn.

roocee 09-24-2010 11:22 PM

Not that I wouldn't explain it. It's just boring and right now I'm a bit pissed at him. He was to come out and look at my car and if he had the tools, take the valve off and work on it. He brought no tools and now I have no idea when he will come and actually take it off because it's a 24 hour process....ugh.

Melody 09-25-2010 08:53 AM

:/ Men are just soooo helpful. Why on earth would he go over to help you out with your car and NOT bring any tools? That's just stupid.

roocee 09-25-2010 10:51 PM

Yep my words exactly. He did it today so hopefully it worked.

Melody 09-26-2010 12:25 AM

*fingers crossed* saving money is always a win.

roocee 09-27-2010 05:55 PM

Oh absolutely. Need to get a new EGR valve. Cleaning it didn't do the trick but the person doing it says he has a friend that can help me with my other issues which will be cheaper than my mechanic. I'm hoping so.

EternalHearts 09-27-2010 06:01 PM

I've got my fingers crossed too Rue.

roocee 09-27-2010 06:28 PM

I need all the help I can get.

Melody 09-27-2010 06:47 PM

Lucky. <3 I just found out today that we need new tires. First real rainy day of the year and as I'm turning into Kuras school to pick her up the car skids. I was so scared. ;-;
