ugh... your assignments certainly sound more brain destroying than mine... I'm mostly doing design projects, and a couple of relatively short essays and a presentation.

But mostly it's making visual thing, which is actually quite difficult and time consuming... but I shudder at the thought of a 25 page anything D:

Rylynne 08-20-2009 04:37 PM

Maybe, but design projects can be really hard if you're not inspired enough for them. x_x;;
I know I always have a hard time making art when I'm not inspired, which sadly happens to be most of the time when I actually have to DO something. xDD;;

The 25-page paper though is a group work, so I'm thankfully not alone. :> I'm however doing a little more than the rest, in that I'm doing the definition of terms and three examples of relationships. =\ But ah wells, I'll survive. 8DD;;

As for the articles... well, I'll get to that someday. >.>;;

At this rate though, I think I would take your visual assignments over these papers. D: </3

slowtrain 08-20-2009 10:52 PM

I know what you mean... mostly I've been sitting in studio, supposedly making fantastic, brilliant, beautiful, inspired marks to represent a flower/fruit/herb... but I just keep drawing them over and over again... in pencil, in watercolour, in pastels... on different paper, with some linen stuck on, with some prints from the leaves... it all just boils down to the same thing and after about an hour I'm just over it :/

but yeah, I'd still prefer it to written assignments

Rylynne 08-21-2009 06:02 AM

Aww! D:
Maybe you need a break then? =O
Everyone's inspirations need a break or something... inspirational to come across. ^^;;
I wish you luck with it though! :>
Although I do admit that it's hard if you're given such free rein, since for me that's kinda harder in that I wouldn't know exactly WHERE to start. xDD;;

slowtrain 08-21-2009 09:33 AM

I usually just start with drawing... and then continue drawing... and then do some painting... then more drawing

we just get such limited studio time to work on it, and I'm so bad a working at home. So I really want to get it done during the studio time because I know if I leave it for home I won't do it as well, or at all. Thanks ^^

Rylynne 08-21-2009 09:38 AM

I see~ =O
Yeah, working at home can be distracting. >.>;;
Like TV and other things. DX
Is your studio time free though? =O Like, is it part of your tuition?
Or do you have to pay for studio time? :x

slowtrain 08-21-2009 09:54 AM

it's part of the course, everyone doing my course has it and has it at the same time, this semester it's called Major Design Studio, last semester it was Design Foundation Studio

uni works quite differently here then most of the rest of the world I think... we apply for courses, not individual universities, and then each course has it's set subjects and electives. I don't have any electives this year, but there is a theory class, studio and last semester we had life drawing, this semester it's computer imaging

so yeah, back to the original question xD
studio time is compulsory and part of course... there are a bunch of different classes and each one has a lecturer

Rylynne 08-21-2009 10:10 AM

Ohh, I see. =O
Sounds like a cool course! :3
Too bad they don't offer something like that here. :<
At least, I don't think they do. >.>;;
Maybe for Fine Arts majors, but not for other students. ^^;;

And ohh, really? =O Yeah, I think it's different than most. Over here, we apply for a university which has the particular course/field we want. :> And then each course has "majors", meaning the subjects that are geared towards the course you want. =) Majors are basically special classes~ :3

And no worries, I get what you mean by courses. ^^;;

slowtrain 08-22-2009 04:24 AM

it is! Aside from the theory subject which I don't mind going to the lectures for, but wish I didn't have to do assignments for it's a really awesome course

Rylynne 08-22-2009 05:56 AM

I'll have to look more into it then~ :3 <3<3
Hmm, maybe I should ask my friends in the art courses if they have something similar to that. :>
Might even take it as an elective, but it all depends. ^^;;

slowtrain 08-22-2009 08:32 AM

if they had something like that it probably would still be different in terms of the content, I'd imagine your friends would be doing many more practical, art based things... I'm doing design projects, the drawing part is all going towards creating interesting marks to put on a package design in a couple of weeks time

Rylynne 08-22-2009 08:51 AM

Ohh, I see. =O <3<3
Who knows though? =P
I suddenly am reminded of what I had to do for an entrance exam to another university. xDD;; We had to design a mascot and a logo for this food company in the span of 30 minutes. =\ I got in the course and the university, I think in either the advertising course or the information design course, but I didn't choose that. ^^;;

slowtrain 08-22-2009 09:44 AM

30 minutes?!
that's nowhere near enough time I would need to design a logo and mascot successfully with the whole thought process of the design principles and experimenting, mark making, photocopying... :/

Rylynne 08-22-2009 04:32 PM

We only had to draw them, nothing fancy or stuff. ^^;;
Oh, in that 30 minutes we were also required to write a short explanation of the mascot and stuff. xDD;;

I still remember what I did... >.>;;
Since I was sparse for time, the food company I used was some bread company, and the product I had was breadsticks, so my mascot was this little painter girl who had the breadstick as a brush and the bucket of paint/s as her dips. >.>;; Then my logo was some funky shape that incorporated a funky oval thing and some lettering. x_x;; So pathetic, but 30 minutes isn't a lot of time to make something pretty and well thought out. D: </3

slowtrain 08-23-2009 01:19 AM

your idea sounds really good though, I'd love to see how you could have developed it and completed it with a bit more time ^^

Rylynne 08-23-2009 05:41 AM

Maybe. :x
But hell no am I going to attempt it again. xDD;;
I don't feel inspired enough for it anymore. =\
At least I managed to pass the test and got into my first choice though~ =P <3<3
Although, like I mentioned earlier, I didn't pick to go to that university. ^^;;

slowtrain 08-23-2009 02:23 PM

aaaahhh, well, as long as you're happy with what you chose to do, then that's all that matters ^^

Rylynne 08-23-2009 02:59 PM

True~ :3 <3<3
Sometimes I wish though that the current university I'm in offers at least an elective on advertising. =\ As of now, you see, I have yet to encounter one. ^^;;

slowtrain 08-24-2009 01:19 AM

well maybe they have something on graphic design... you could do a graphic design elective and a marketing elective ^^

Rylynne 08-24-2009 03:40 PM

Maybe? =O That's a good idea actually. :>
I'll have to still check if there's stuff like that though. :3
I'm assuming there is, but I have yet to find it. xDD;;
...
Although, not like I can take them now though. :x
Electives are only available in your junior year, and I'm still a sophomore. xDD;;

slowtrain 08-25-2009 12:39 AM

ah well, you can always look anyway

Rylynne 08-25-2009 09:46 AM

True~ ^^;;

Anyhows, I'm having SO much trouble with this avatar. D: </3
I keep fiddling with it and nothing good is coming out of it. ;_;

slowtrain 08-25-2009 01:12 PM

personally I wouldn't be able to do anything with that dress, so I think you've done well to get a bit of balance in there... but if it were me I wouldn't use the dress, I just fail with gowns xD

Rylynne 08-25-2009 04:33 PM

I fail with gowns as well. D: </3
Although I wanted to try so that my money was at least spent decently on this dress. xDD;;
Still fiddling with it though. @[email protected];;
And I'm debating whether or not the sword should be there. >.>;;

slowtrain 08-26-2009 07:09 AM

I like the sword, it's really hard to make those work too... I think you've done really well, way better than I could have ^^

I didn't buy any of those dresses, but I bought a couple of the other gown, although I doubt I'll ever use it xD
