I think the fastest ways to get gold are playing games and posting in the forums.
Right now there's an event going on that you might want to check out, though i think its almost over. It's here.

2, you are not allowed to double post, it is considered spam, and you can get in big trouble.

As for gold earning, there is a newbie gold earning guide stickied right on top of the Fresh Meat forums, so you might want to check it out.

There is about 15 minutes or so left for the Easter event, though. So you might want to just check that out for a bit before it closes.
