Well, as with all avatar communities, you should check out the forums and start chatting in the subforums that you're interested in and make some friends. :3

If you want to get gold/items, you should try and post longer messages, since the amount of gold that you earn is dependent on the length of your post. Also, you can earn up to 500g per day through the arcade games.

Also, be sure to read all of the rules and faqs.
This site is a bit different than other avatar communities and rules are actually enforced.

Have I broken any rules already or something? :O

I mean, I am kind of a rule breaker at heart, but I don't want to fall on my butt the
very first day, either!

Well, I'm not really sure. Be sure to look through the faq.
And don't worry, you'll just get some warnings that expire if you mess up. :3

Some of the big things to remember is not to double-post. If you want to add something to a topic, but no one else has posted after you, just edit what you last wrote. (There's an edit button in the bottom left corner of each post).

Another thing to remember is to always put quotes around things that you took from another site, movie/tv quotes and lyrics. Since you earn gold depending on the amount you write, putting things like that without quotes earns you gold unfairly (since you didn't actually write it).

Those are two things off the top of my head that new users tend to screw up on... but you can read all the rules in the link I posted earlier. :)

Let me know if you have more specific questions or if you just want to chat.

Well, as you can see, my dear Kra....Silvie... I am no longer as old as I once
was. I went through a process of rejuvenation that has left me with Vegita style hair and less wrinkly pecs than I used to sport.

All in all, the operation was a success! (although I am not sure if I can cast magic anymore, the jury's out on that one =))

From what I can see so far, you're doing fine, Tellah, no worries. ~_^

And of course. Welcome to Menewsha!
If you do not wish to break any rules, just read them up *points at the RULES link up on the blue dashboard* and try to remember some of the important ones like the double posting rule, what is considered spam here, and quoting spoons.

That aside, if you looking for hangouts to hang out in (best place to find new friends too), you should visit the Menewsha Nation. If you are looking for a more serious discussion to participate in, just take a look around General Discussions or Community Discussions if you are looking for Menewsha-related topics instead.

Also, here on Mene, we don't judge if your avatar's naked or if you have a miserable gold count. So feel free to open up and join in conversations. It may take a bit of time to get familiar, but once you do, it'd be great for you. ~_^

Ask away if you have any questions. I'll be more than happy to assist.

Iroase: It all sounds too good to be true! I mean, even Shangri La had its' bad points (as evidenced by certain people wanting to escape from there!)

I do appreciate the apparent closeness of the moderatorhood to the userbase. Thumbs up on that one, and thanks for the warm welcome!

Siri: Indeed, my username, and longtime nickname is Tellah. I am glad I managed to nab the name nice and soon! I'll get to the actual trying to look like him again in due time. For now, as Iroase suggests, making new friends takes precedence!

Hehe, that's awesome. You can download an avatar creator to help plan your outfit and make it look as close to Tellah as possible.

There's a download link available in the avatar chat forum. :)

Although I've been informed by a little silver bird that... there's a slight chance I won't be able to find a white beard here on Menewsha...

Should I bother to dream, or is the look achievable? And idea there, or should I be asking somewhere else?

lol To be honest, I never liked Shangri-La, for all the 4/5 stars it's rated. I swear my father has a physical aversion to it as well. xD

You're very much welcome. Most of the staff were regular users before they enter moderatorhood, so you can say we still go around posting as regular users as we used to while doing our jobs (the point is to also enjoy the site, see).

I forgot to mention, if you are seeking for a few items to start off but is finding the task of making gold for them immensely difficult, you should try the Charity forums as well. They are just ITCHING to donate to newbies such as yourself. Although, most of them have limitations on active periods and post count (none really too overwhelming), it might be worth a try. =)

EDIT:
If I could recall right, there are no facial hair options yet. We do have several tattoos, though. :D

I think you can be creative.
There are white face veils and scarves that might do the trick.

Also, there are always updates and for all we know, we might get a Santa Claus beard or something in the future as an event item. xD;;

I'd like to use the Santa's beard one day if Mene ever releases the item.

Siri: I will have to get started on petitioning for a santa beard, then! Tellah's just not Tellah without the beard! And a scarf will always look like a scarf. I'd have to experiment, I guess.

Iroase: Don't like the classics, eh? Well, Lost Horizon isn't the BEST book ever written, but it does what it has to do for me, I guess. As for charity... well, i've never been too much into the begging scheme, heh heh.

I'll just talk until it happens for now. I may have to drop the pride eventually, who knows?

There are the item suggestion threads in Site Feedback you may want to try posting in if you are requesting for any particular items. xD

*smacks forehead*
I thought you were talking about the hotel. rofl
I've not read Lost Horizon, although my favourite book of all time would have to be Good Omens. Have you read that book?

Well, I wouldn't really say it's 'begging' (we do give warnings for right out begging). I myself personally do not like requesting for items in the charities, but the ones here are more like regular giveaways rather than the strong implication of the name 'charity'. If you look around, you may be surprised to find that even long-time regular users participate in the charities (there are raffles held in occasion), whether to support the charity or desperately questing for an item.

There's a Shangri La hotel? That's something other than the apparent sleazy rent-a-night joint it sounds like it would be?

I'm afraid I haven't read Good Omens. I haven't done too much reading these last couple of years... I should get back in the habit. Internet dulled the senses!

Shangri-La is actually a rather well-known brand of hotels, at least in the Asia region.
lol They DO have those services too, from what I heard...

I know how you feel. I've been catching on my reading lately to compensate for all those years. Most Jeffery Archer and Terry Pratchett works.
Actually, if you're read any books by Pratchett and/or Neil Gaiman, you may like Good Omens (unless you are easily offended by religion-based humour). Good Omens is actually the book that got me back to reading.

You said the right name. Terry Pratchett. Say no more! I will have to get my hands on this book sometime, now!

I am not easily offended, I am usually on the offending side of things, unfortunately!
Trust me, you're talking to a very collected me right now, if I get carried away, you'll know right away how easy it is for me to offend people!

Yeah, never heard of Shangri La the hotel, but you sure don't make it sound like a good idea to stay at one! If I ever visit Asia, i'll keep my eyes peeled for the offending chain of evil!
