I'M NAKED~

And I'm new! :boogie:

Uh, I really fail at introductions... But I'll give you a bit of my basics for anyone interested.

My name is Manda, I'm from Northern California and I just turned twenty on Wednesday. I've been told I act quite a few years younger than I am, but I am okay with that 'cause I have more fun that way. ;) I am a bit shy and kind of a hermit so I don't know how much I'll post. I abuse smileys. I'm random and a total geek. I love Batman (probably obvious), play World of Warcraft, and am currently obsessing over Heroes and Zachary Quinto. I also tend to ramble. :ninja:

So, uh... Yes... I will shut up now because no one cares that much about a newbie. lol

They're too nice to newbies, in my opinion. I remember back in the good old days, when forums forced you through a good old trial by fire, uphill both ways..ah, them were the days!

Nah, we do care about newbs (am I old enough yet to be considered part of we? Eh, whatever) and liking Batman is certainly a plus. ^_^
Personally, I feel that Superman has some of the most undeveloped potential of any comic character ever made (Ala' Superman by Fighting for Five). As it is, he's just the lame version of Batman, who thereby steals all the awesome. As for Batman continuity, I'm a Nightwing fan :P I also like Spoiler, Robin, Teen Titans, and a ton of the rest ^_^;; The live action Birds of Prey miniseries was awesome..

..yeah, you fit in here, don't worry :P

Tellah 07-18-2009 10:14 PM

Funny you should mention Zachary Quinto. We were just complai---er, talking about him in another thread!

I am naked too, Batman is ok, I guess, but too mainstream and too... loved.
Once you tell me you love say, Spider Jerusalem as far as comic book characters go, we'll have LOTS to talk about!

(oh yeah, Welcome, and all)

Darkeyes 07-18-2009 10:28 PM

Ha, nice. How about Jesse Custer?

Tellah 07-18-2009 10:39 PM

DARKEYES, MARRY ME... oh wait, looks like you're a guy. Dude, Preacher ROCKS.
(Cassidy is still my favorite there, though)

All you need to do NOW is know who Cole Burns is! (I'll also accept Loop Hughes or Dizzy Cordova as a stand in, though)

Darkeyes 07-18-2009 10:43 PM

Damn. I'm familiar with 100 bullets, but I never actually got a chance to get my hands on it. >_<
So no, not really. Sadly true of most of the indy works I'm aware of.
At the same time, if I had a hold of my comic collection, I'm sure I could pull out a fair number of jaw-droppingly amazing comics you're not familiar with. ^_^

Anyway, yeah, Preacher is amazing.

For what it's worth, the guy part doesn't bother me. The marriage part, however, does.

Psst, we're hijacking again :P Let's not scare off Batmanda, I want to hear her take on the progression of Robins throughout Batman history.

Tellah 07-18-2009 10:46 PM

Not into commitment, eh? Ah well.

Dude, it's rare to find fellow fans of indie stuff. (Although it's all Vertigo titles now, heh heh)
Try me. I read frickin' Patoruzu comics, and if you know who THAT is without looking at google, then DAYUMN.

Read 100 Bullets. You'll be glad you did!

Oh, right. Well, Batman goes through more Robins than that scientist from Dinosaurs goes through Timmies.
In other words, he's too too expendable.

Darkeyes 07-18-2009 10:53 PM

Nope, you've got me there.
And I actually have memory problems, so I won't be able to tell you lest I can actually get my hands on the comics, and they're in storage at the moment.
I don't necessarily follow indie.. I just follow everything good- from electronic games to tabletop games to movies to books to comics to.. well, everything nerdly, I suppose. It's especially true of comics, though.

And I'll see if I can get a hold of it. There is actually a long list of comics I should get caught up on..

Tellah 07-18-2009 10:55 PM

I follow everything good too. Problem with Batman as of late is they've spent too much effort making him look 'COOL' than on actual substance.

(I prefer 1989's Batman to last years', for example... although the Joker IS better in the newer version by a long shot)

Darkeyes 07-18-2009 11:01 PM

I rather liked Batman Begins- Dark Knight was overrated, though. Too much Heath Ledger angst behind it, I suppose.. As an example, Iron Man was a better movie, and it's rated way lower. Same goes for Begins.

And Batman goes in phases..you get the good with the bad. As I said, your best stuff is on the offbranches- Titans, Nightwing, Birds of Prey.. and even those have their problems (Even the BoP live-action did, where they insisted there was such a thing as a half-meta-human. Ignoring the fact that anyone with a super power is a meta, and hence, a half-meta is..ALSO a meta. Fully. Tsk.)

Oh, you know what was the worst abomination to happen to comic-related works? Mutant X. Yech x_x And then they blamed their suckage on the fact that Marvel removed their affiliation. Well, no crap, I wouldn't want to be associated with that trash either- not that it didn't have it's good points, but it came out..well, like Rocky Horror..only..less..classy.. >_>

lulz, I went and found the thread out of curiousity. To each their own, but I would say to give the new ST movie a shot rather than making all assumptions just from the previews.

Darkeyes 07-19-2009 10:45 AM

If you'll notice, no assumptions were made- a state of caution was achieved, but if an assumption had already been made, we wouldn't be pursuing the question of how good the film is.
The only thing we noted was the fact that, to us, Sylar..I mean, Quinto, seemed inappropriate for the role, especially by how he was portrayed in the previews. And that Kirk also seemed poorly cast. And that half of the remaining cast also seemed poorly cast.
;P
In seriousness, we're giving it a shot once it hits DVD, no worries. Hell, I'm looking forward to a reboot of the Star Trek series, it can use a revitalization- and we CLEARLY have followed the Star Trek universe well enough to care. :P

And..seriously? It has Nemoy in it. How can we not make time to watch it?
For shame, for assuming that we wouldn't. ;P

Also..you totally stalked us, stalker. ~_^

fiarra 07-19-2009 07:04 PM

:P I wasn't implying that you were all like 'omgzzz hate', I did see that you're going to give the DVD a shot. I kinda looked at it as, well it's a reboot and none of the actors were going to try and be exactly like their original counterparts.

And I am not a stalker!

Darkeyes 07-19-2009 07:19 PM

Yeah, but it doesn't have to be a difference as eccentric as making Superman fly around in a frilly pink dress.
Okay, that's not much of a change, so bad example.
Still: It's enough to make things rather peculiar.

Yeah, reboots are meant to give a new perspective. That doesn't mean that we can't look at the previews with fresh eyes and not still be turned off by the way their characters act.
Really, it has nothing to do with how they're supposed to be. Except in Quinto's case, of course. That's just weird.
:P

You totally are a stalker. I've seen you following me.. hunting me down.. luring me in.. devouring me with your eyes.. tempting me with cookies, spam, and cheesecake..
..which, while we're on the topic of peculiar combinations..

Tellah 07-20-2009 01:21 PM

I felt totally stalked. That's for sure.

Darkeyes 07-20-2009 01:53 PM

You're exceptionally stalkable.

Tellah 07-20-2009 02:14 PM

Well, I think it has to do with my naked body. Maybe I should stop squeezing oranges all over it, and stuff.

Darkeyes 07-20-2009 02:16 PM

It is a bit fruity, yeah.
And who are we to deny a citrusy-fresh encounter?

Tellah 07-20-2009 02:18 PM

Exactly.

...although I think i'll try Mangoes next time. Lots squishier.

Darkeyes 07-20-2009 02:30 PM

I think you'd better see to my thorough intoxication if you expect me to continue along with this tropical juice party.
