Yeah, it's fun. xD
Perhaps Lavender stockings with darker purple socks. :) |
Yeah you actually have to earn your stuff.
Its kinda gay they dont start you of with ANY clothes. |
Yea, it's a little odd. Especially when it's difficult to earn gold at first. It is fun, though, to be able to play games and talk to people and be rewarded for it :)
|
No, it is not gay or odd. Menewsha rewards working for your gold. Play a few games or make a couple of posts, and you have enough gold to buy yourself some clothes already.
Menewsha wants to teach their new members from the start that working for your gold pays you well. We want interested, polite, active new members, not spoiled little brats that think they should get everything handed to them. If you start with starter cloths, everyone starts complaining they're not good enough and that they should get better clothes. Then if they'd do that, it would still not be good enough. It would never be enough. The more you give people from the start, the less they will appreciate the items Mene has. The less they will appreciate working for your own stuff. The less they will appreciate people helping them out. |
Hi! Welcome to Menewsha! (I know I'm kinda late..xD) I hope you're enjoying yourself here. I thought it would be really hard to earn gold when I first joined, but I admit that I was wrong. Kinda. xD Playing games over and over can get a bit annoying, even though it's probably easier to earn gold that way... But everyone on the forums is very nice and encouraging, and I don't think anyone really cares if you happen to be in your undies. :P Oh, and your avatar looks nice right now. ^^ |
Hey Kirari, nice avatar.
Despite the games, I make most of my gold by posting. The longer your post, the more gold you get. This encourages conversations instead of 'ok. ¬¬' replies. Conversation is what an online community should be based upon. |
@ Silenia: Hmmm that's a good point. People who get starter clothes will just complain anyway, just like i complain about being in my undies! hehe, well I only say it's odd because I don't know if other sites do the same thing or not, but if they don't then it makes mene all the more unique :D I do enjoy posting and playing the games though (I'm mad good at Tetris!) so it's actually fun once you get the hang of it.
@Kirari: Thanks much! I know, everyone has been so polite and encouraging-- its a real breath of fresh air! And your avatar looks cute too :) |
Most sites either start you out with some gold or some clothes or both, yes. There might be a few more that don't, but I think Mene is the biggest of them.
|
@Silenia: I agree. It doesn't make much sense if a online community isn't based on actual conversations. Starter clothes aren't that good most of the time anyway, so it's almost the same as being in undies. xD @Liquid Diamend: Thank you. :D Hehe...I've never been good at Tetris. The only game I ever really play is Harbor Fishing. xD |
Gaia has become a 'community' without conversation or contact. They post nonsense and rarely reply at eachother. I think that flame-wars are more common than actual conversations. ¬¬
|
I don't like Gaia. There are way too many commercials, and people don't use correct grammer; ever. I also don't like the avatars on there as well, but that's just my personal opinion. Sometimes I can barely understand what people are trying to say there. xD |
I know. I don't like people 't4lKiN lykk d1z'.
Don't want to puzzle to find out what someone might have been saying. |
Lol It is very annoying. Especially when you have no idea what someone is saying. |
Yeah. I mean, sure. if someone changes the e for a 3, it's annoying but no big deal. Add all kind of signs and numbers in and put some capital letters in the middle of a word, and I have no idea what they're saying anymore.
|
Come to think of it, is there actually a reason people do that? ._. Because it seems a bit odd, it's as if they're purposely using some kind of code language. xD |
Yeah. I think it started on the online games, where the oldbies used it to show they were the elite (hence it being called '7331'-speak) - that way, the newbies wouldn't understand them, so they proved they were "better"/knew more of the game/whatever.
Stupid, but yeah. And some things are shorter or easier when texting. That's where part of it comes from as well, especially the things like u instead of you, plz instead of please and similar things. |
I don't like shortening words like that though. For some reason it just bothers me... It's kind of odd. .-. |
I don't like it either. xD
|
Wow, I'm gone for a few hours and you guys are already in a heated discussion! Though honestly, I have to agree with all the above posts. Horrid spelling is a HUGE pet peeve of mine!! Even in personal text messages and whatnot.
|
xD Lol, yeah.
Typos are fine, but if more words are spelled wrong than right, I get very annoyed. Especially if the person isn't blind, seeing badly, dyslectic or anything similar and IS a native speaker. |
If something is clearly a typo, I'm fine with it. But if some word is shortened beyond belief or happens to have numbers in it, I find it insanely annoying. :[ |
Big pet peeve= YOU'RE and YOUR; THERE and THEIR and THEY'RE.. the list goes on. please take the time to spell out the word "you" instead of put "u".. it's two extra letters, its it really that hard? >< I mean seriously!
Whew.. okay that was my rant for the day :P |
Lol! That's how I feel as well. xD I still remember when one of my English teachers got annoyed at my class because everyone kept on writing "1" instead of "one," etc. It was oddly amusing. :yumeh2: |
Speaking of being new, I have an infraction already >< doh! I'm so stupid sometimes!
|
Hello, I stumbled upon your discussion and I have to agree. The way I see it is that it is okay to use symbols, capital letter, shorthand, and text talk in very small qualities. For instance I do use them, in my Role Playing threads but only to make my character's name stand out. The rest of the post is correctly formatted, which is saying something considering I come from Gaia. I just don't understand why people insist on doing every word like that.
Also one thing I noticed is that you said flaming wars are popular on Gaia. They were for awhile but now it has moved on to bumping contests. |
