Hello?

Hello.
I don't normally make these type of threads. I am not one for talking about myself so find these sort of threads uncomfortable. I much prefer talking with people as a way of introduction. Alas that is not the case here. That stupid bar at the top won't go away until I do, so as it is highly annoying I decided to through caution to the wind and make one.
My name is Mellinda, though mostly I get called Mellie. Portia is my online identity, I created her at the age of fifteen when I didn't want to give away all my personal information, I was obsessed with the fact I could be virtually groomed or stalked. Slowly I grew comfortable with the internet but couldn't quite shake the bond I had developed with the name. Portia is one or Uranus' moons, I chose the name because it was the planet connected to my starsign.
I am currently in a relationship with a wonderful guy called Paul. I work as a waitress and will be until September when I scoot off to University, though it will most likely end up that I am a student by day and working in some bar by night to pay tuiton fees. I don't want to take out the loans and get bundled with debt until I am fifty. I have a pet dog, Razzles, and he is four years old, I got him when he was a puppy. He is a dopey little guy but so cute you can't stay mad at him, even if he has just chewed through the kitchen lino or ruined my favourite leather jacket.
I think that is enough rambling for one introduction (you can see why I don't normally make threads like these by now can't you?) so I think I better just wrap this up.
I hope to speak with you all soon.

Hi Portia Welcome to Mene I hope you find yourself a home a good place to start out is in the charity forum they will help you out lots, and if you lots and need help with the site don't hesitate to join me at my charity or you can shoot me a pm:yes:

Portia 01-06-2010 07:55 PM

Now that is a coincedence. I was just in your charity to request a buddy.
Thank you for the lovely welcome. I am sure that once I get used to things here I shall find myself at home. I am just finding my way around so far. I actually wasn't expecting it to be so big, but there we have it. It will keep me busy anyway.

Silenia 01-06-2010 07:56 PM

Well, at least at Mene, you tend to get more replies than just 'hi' and 'welcome to Mene'. Most people here like conversations, so I guess you'll feel at home here pretty easy. If you want someone to talk to, feel free to PM me, drop off a profile message or visit my charity, which is where I hang around most of the time.

Portia is also the name of the heroine from one of Shakespeare's plays, if I remember well. Wasn't the moon named after it?

What kind of study will you be doing, if I may ask?

Ah, I like dogs, as long as they're more or less well-behaved. As in, don't pee on my shoes if I walk next to them, or bite me. xD

And I don't think you rambled all that much. Welcome to Menewsha, I hope you'll have a good time here. :)

Naoto-chan22 01-06-2010 08:02 PM

Portia:yesh I saw that I do hope you pick a nice Buddy

Portia 01-06-2010 08:05 PM

Yes, the last site I joined was fairly small and the users there got bored reading my posts after a while and couldn't carry a conversation to save their lives so I became bored after a while and drifted off. I found this place and am hoping its different, so far I am impressed with what I see.
Indeed it is, I am a closet Shakespeare fan, I fell in love with A Midsummer's Night Dream in school. Most of Uranus' moons I noticed were the names of Shakespearen characters. At the time I chose Portia I wasn't aware of her connections though.
I am going to be studying literature funnily enough. One of my friends started the course last year and said that it was really hard work but she found it really interesting so I thought I would give it a go. I have had a peep at the reading lists too and they are emense so I will be kept pretty busy. The good thing is I will never be out of reading material, something which at the moment is a bare minimum for me.
Yes I love dogs. I am more of a cat person though, the basically just take care of themselves. It would have been much easier if I had a cat now because my life is pretty busy so poor Razzles doesn't really get the attention that he deserves but there you have it. None of this was considered when I got him, I was fourteen and wanted a pet so my dad was an absolute darling and got him for my birthday.

I was just about to check your thread again but had to reply to this one first. I shall have a proper look at the list now. I am sure that they are all lovely so I shall have no problem.

Silenia 01-06-2010 08:10 PM

Well, at Mene most people can carry conversations pretty well, especially because the longer your post is, the more gold you get - which is why Mene is so strict on not allowing spamming - so people that prefer to have posts of like two words get bored here quickly, or get their gold by gaming, in which case you won't see them much, if at all, anyway.

Midsummer Night's Dream is nice, certainly. :) And yes, most moons of Uranus are named after Shakespeare's characters, I think.

Ah, I hope you'll have a nice time studying literature. :) I too am more a cat than a dog person, but I like them both. :)
That was very nice of your dad. :)

Portia 01-06-2010 08:20 PM

If that is the case you will most likely see me all of the time then, I am rubbish at games. Most of the time I don't even find the arcade style games entertaining. That is why I am a sucker for forum sites. Then I discovered the avatar forum sites last year and was hooked from then on in. Though with the avatar forum I joined first there was just problem after problem with the site so I went back to my other little hideouts and then decided to get back into the world of avatar and managed to find this place.
Yes indeed they are. I can't remember that many of them now but I definately remeber Puck and Oberon were amoungst them, possibly Titania too, though don't take my word on that one.
Yeah, that is one of my favourites, perhaps because it was the first I read of his collection. I also love Hamlet. I was never overly keen on Romeo and Julliette though, I mean it is a great peice of literature but to me it was just too cliched for me to enjoy it. Though that may just be the fickle person I am.
Oh yes, I love both of them too, just on the counts of taking care of I prefer cats as they are so much easier. Though I do love my little Razzles, just at times he can be a bit full on. He is huge too, I wasn't expecting him to grow so big, mind you that was just me being dim, most labradors are pretty big.

JellybeanInc 01-06-2010 08:28 PM

Hey, I found your introduction thread. =)
It's a very smart idea that you came up with a different persona for the internet. I had one too for a while, named Blair. Then I starte hanging out more on sites where people called one by their screen names and that went quickly out the window.
What avatar site where you part of before? If you don't mind me asking.

Silenia 01-06-2010 08:29 PM

I play a game every now and again, but I too gain most of my gold by posting. It's a forum with some games, not a game site with a few forum threads. xD Avatar sites can be lovely, but some of them are very glitchy, and the biggest, Gaia, is extremely spammy. It's almost impossible to find a good conversation there.
All you see is 'Bump'.

Puck, Oberon and Titania are indeed amongst them. I agree with you on Romeo and Juliette, but it has mostly become cliché because these days there are so many 'spin-offs', variations of it, movies of it, etc.

Ah, Razzles is a labrador? They're nice, usually.

Portia 01-06-2010 08:42 PM

I am glad that you found my introduction thread. I wasn't expecting so many replies actually, I was expecting to be bombarded with people demanding I read the rules of the site, though naturally I read them before I posted.
I was a member of Kinsaki at first, in the very early days before the crash but after I lost all my items I sort of lost the heart to re-build everything that took me so long to get in the first place. I don't think I even re made my account, I will have to check that out.
Yes I noticed that people tend to call me by my screen name rather than other things so that is why Portia is my username now. She is not a completely different identity. I mean personality wise she is exactly the same, just she is like a cloak to mask who I really am. Though now I am past caring if people find out my name, infact I post it on a regular basis. Mind you I don't go into extremes like put my full address.

I haven't actually looked at the games here yet. I may take a little peek at them next actually. Though I mostly just end up getting frustrated if I can't get the highscore so in the end my boyfriend has to gently steer me away before I end up throwing something.
I thought that they were. I will have to look the rest up later, I am that sort of person. And yes I completely agree with you about that. It is the re-makings and variations that for me, personally, has ruined Romeo and Juliette. I have read if for my higher English and I can't argue that it is a great bit of literature.
Indeed he is, he is a golden lab. He is really sweet in temprement and has so much energy its great because I can take him jogging with me each Sunday and he doesn't tire, unlike myself.

Silenia 01-06-2010 08:47 PM

Kinsaki. Ah, yes. I quit there after the crash as well. Not that I ever was really active, even then Mene held the first place for me. xD

There are some pretty basic games - snake, tetris, space invaders, etc. - but also two Mene themed games. One is a tower defense game, the other a Fishing game. xD

And indeed, it's all those re-makings that have ruined it for me too. Ah, a golden labrator. My granddad used to have a golden retriever. He was very nice. :) My cousin once stepped on his tail, he did just howl, not try to attack or bit at all. And he used to let us ride on his back, back when we were 2-3-4.

Portia 01-06-2010 08:57 PM

No, I wasn't overly active there myself. I was wrapped up in another forum at that time but it fell through for me shortly before the crash so as I was working my way to an acceptable level I lost it all so gave up on it. Though this site has been going for a while I am surprised I never found it before. I think this forum shall consume me from now on, my last ones are getting a little quiet now and are showing signs of death, plus there is no avatars there so thats another fail x3
Ah, thats good they have their own specially made games, sadly I think I will pass on the games myself, they just don't bode well with me. I actually only play one game, its on my boyfriends x-box, I am addicted to Grand Theft Auto. I am imagining though menewsha doesn't have that game lol
Yes, they are very sweet dogs generally. My dad used to have a chocolate lab when he was in his teens, it died a few months befoe I was born actually so when I wanted a dog my dad got a lab. He never actually told my mum, just came home with him on the night of my birthday, she was not best pleased as she isn't the biggest dog lover.

JellybeanInc 01-06-2010 09:09 PM

I recommend some of the games if you're bored and have nothing else to do but still want to earn gold. Their fun. Attack of the Fangirls, the Tower Defense game, ends up sucking more people into it after they played a game or two. I can never really get past level 10 so I don't bother with it much. And alas, Grand Treft Auto isn't one of our games. xD

Kinsaki crashed at some point? Well that had to suck. Sorry that you had to go through that

jo18 01-06-2010 09:11 PM

i rather like you rlong post and it is one of the best newbie posts i have seen i think you did a great job introducing yourself!! ^_^
and welcome to mene!!

Portia 01-06-2010 09:19 PM

Thank you for the welcome jo18. I am glad that you like my post, its a little too rambly for my tastes but oh well. I was just going to post a sentence or two but my writing skills couldn't let me leave out so many things.

I think I shall pass on the games. I have had a little look at them and just don't think that they are really for me. I am more than happy posting so I don't think I should get involved in games, I run the risk of getting absorbed.
Shame really but I can't say I am overly surprised, its not exactly PG13 is it? x3
Yeah in August 2008 the system got reset back to April 2008 so all information in between was wiped out, and of course that had to be the months I got most of my things. My account was wiped so I didn't even re-make it.

JellybeanInc 01-06-2010 09:22 PM

Why in the world would they do that? That's so stupid. I can't imagine that their users were very happy about that.

Oh and a little helpful hint for you, since your writing skill won't let you post just a little bit, the more you write the more gold you earn. =D Which is great since it means that most people actually write stuff instead of just giving you one word answers. Unless of cousre it's 2-5 in the morning and then we're all pretty much dead. xD

Portia 01-06-2010 09:32 PM

Oh it wasn't planned. No, it was a server crash so all the information they had was wiped and back ups were corrupted. It was most likely sabotage of the site but you know, it was all pretty hush hush, the users only were on a need to know basis so its all a bit muddled.
There is no need to worry about that, I never give one word answers. That is one thing I can't stand. I have a few little ticks when writing, even just cahtting away like I am now: I hate one word replies, there is just no need for that; I am not too picky on spelling or grammer, I mean we all have the few mistakes but if its on a regular basis I feel the need to point it out; Chat speak. I can't stand it, I can't reply if I can't read it so I make it incredibly clear that if they type like that they will most likely be ignored by me.
Though everyone on this site seems wonderful. I haven't seen anyone that types like that so tehre is no problem there, so like I said somewhere else I think I shall be incredibly happy here.
Plus I am not working tomorrow so I might be on here until 5am we just don't know, then everyone shall incurr the wrath of the truly tired x3

JessehBoo 01-06-2010 09:33 PM

Hello! :)
welcome to Mene, im still a little new myself, howre you today? :)

Portia 01-06-2010 09:36 PM

Hello there. Your a newbie too? You certainly don't look like one, how long did it take you to get your outfit together? I am doing wonderful thank you for asking. How are you doing?

JellybeanInc 01-06-2010 09:45 PM

Jesseh is a newbie? I would have never though that.

Oh man, some threads turn into these horrible three word reply places because everyone is super tired but some of us just don't want to go to bed yet. The Wallflower thread becomes one of those sometimes.
I don't like chat speak either. I don't understand it. Some of the 1337 words I sort of get but with others I sit there staring at it forever trying to figure out what the heck they're trying to say.

Portia 01-06-2010 09:51 PM

That is like me. I can't understand half of it. I understand the abbreviations like "lol" and "wtf" and the likes but don't like them overly much so normally avoid using them, though sometimes I will thorugh in the odd "lol" though it depends on how tired I am.
Ah well, I normally chat as usual when I am tired, just I am extremely slow at posting. Though when I get to that stage I turn into lurker mode so I do no harm to anyone.

JessehBoo 01-06-2010 10:05 PM

a little sick still from last wekk lol and ive been here since...november? or october XD <3
iunno how long but i got the ears and tail ytesterday :)

Sadistic Lemon 01-06-2010 10:06 PM

Hey Portia! Welcome to Menewsha, I hope you have a great time here! I love dogs xD Razzels sounds very mischievous, but he'll get better as he gets older... My dog when he was a puppy ripped the skirting board off, I was like o.o, but it was loose anyway...

Yes chatspeak and leet are evil, they're my pet hates unless it is basically lol or rofl...

Portia 01-06-2010 10:12 PM

Thank you for the welcome. I do love your username Sadistic Lemon. It amused me.
Ah yes, Razzles is a little trouble maker, I am sure he will stay that way for the rest of his life. Oh dear, I am glad that Razzles hasn't done any major destruction of my apartment. He chewed the lino off the floor in the kitchen, liuckily my boyfriend and I were re-decorating so that wasn't major, he also clawed p our old leather arm chair pretty bad but as we were getting a new suite the chair was going so again it wasn't anything major. We still gave him a telling off so he knows that its bad. Little blighter still does that. Mostly he just chews towels or things like that. If we go out we leave him in the kitchen ti minimize damage and when we came back he had ate five dish cloths XD
Yes that is like me. I don't use much abbreviations but have nothing against those who do as long as most of their post isn't shorthand.
