Well, I'm new (obviously, or i wouldn't be posting this!), and both positively lost and clueless!
I live in Canada, and my hobbies include Interneting (yes, it's now a verb!), taking photos- mostly at concerts, listening to music... yepyep. I found out about this site today through a friend ^_^

It pretty much goes like this: you can earn gold by playing the games or posting the forums. Then you get get items 'n stuff with the gold in the shops. I'm gonna add you as a friend... Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions!!

How/where do I buy clothes?

Up at the top of the screen is the "Shops" button.

After you buy some stuff, you can go to your Inventory to put them on!
