I've played a little bit of sonic, but I only really remember bits of the old 2d version.

Welcome to Mene. I never knew the Sonic series well but I once had a stuffed animal of him that I loved as a child and enjoyed playing the first and second levels (since that's as far as I could ever get) of the sega game in my childhood dentist's office.
