I'm a Radiographer. (My mom is always calling me a Radiologist... I keep trying to tell her that's wrong, and I'm not a doctor, but she rather likes calling me that) So I take x-rays on basically everyone in the hospital ^_^

Libs - I've heard x-Ray taking can be harmful, and that you can only work for 10 years. Is it true?

They can be harmful (for example: I have a greater chance of developing cataracts if I don't follow basic safety precautions: staying 6 feet away from the xray beam, or standing behind leaded glass/walls). Also I wear a Radiation monitor. I'm allowed 10 x's the amount of radiation the general public is allowed (per year) because I'm a Radiation worker. As long as I stay under that I will unlikely experience any problems from it. Last year, I only got like 1/50th of the radiation in allowed per year. I think when you get to 1/10th your allowed radiation in the year, they will likely suspend you and say you need to be more careful and mindful of the radiation you're getting (the hospitals radiation safety officer watches and takes care of that stuff).

Though now a days xrays don't give as much radiation as they used to (because the technique to obtain the images require far less radiation). So it's becoming safer and safer each time the technology gets better.

And now you know more useless information!

In the end, 10 years from now I may get bored and change professions, but the radiation usually isn't what makes people quit it xD. There are no laws in the US that limit how long you can work in the profession.
