I'm a big fantasy fan, so that's what I write. It started with poetry (lot's of mythology based stuff), then went onto a few short stories. Then I stopped for a while and now I'm working on my very first novel. It's kinda taken over my mind [sweat]

I've written one novel, one's in the works. I write a lot of poetry and song lyrics, and the occasional short story.
I can't really write critiques because my thoughts about a story/song are not always coherent [:|]
Fantasy is COOL. I've got a couple of WIPs I'm not really working on which come under fantasy. Both are inspired by Indian mythology by varying degrees though... so I can't credit it all to my imagination :P

Just to jump in on that convo you guys are having I'm a writer as well! I did NaNoWriMo last year (never finished WHOOPS) and I've written quite a few pieces. My #1 problem is that I have a lot of ideas and poor execution.

I haven't the guts to try NaNo, but good on you for giving it a go. I used to have that poor execution thing too, but I figured the only way to fix it would be to keep working at it [sweat]
What stuff do you write?

Potatoe (okay if I call you that?) you're asking ME for tips on writing novels?!
I basically just blunder my way through 'til I reach the end XP... though the way I write differs with each novel. I guess because each novel is pretty different (Along with the one novel I've written two novellas in the past... they were shit xD.)
But those stories ended up novellas because the idea wasn't big enough, I was intending to make them novels but couldn't stretch them enough. So the only advice I think I'm safe to give is: make sure your idea can sustain a novel. If not, don't try stretching XP Some stories don't need so many pages for you to tell them, some need a lot more words [yes]
A lot of writers say that you shouldn't put unnecessary stuff in your story, you should only write in stuff that'll contribute to character or story dev, and I struggled to do that and was able to do it (better than I could do it before anyway.) Sometimes this leads to the story ending up like a skeleton without flesh. There are no absolute rules right and we have to use our own discretion to choose to follow the rules that work for us or for the story at hand.
I've gone on and on, that's prob a lot more than you asked for... sorry [sweat]

I used to have too many ideas too, and I couldn't choose between them, and I'd start on one idea only to have my excitement about it (and the idea itself) fizzle out. I'd say take one BIG idea and work on that (since we're talking novel-writing right now.) Or try to merge some ideas to make a big one.

I like writing, but I've never committed to a whole story. I'd like to write a whole story one day. Not sure when that will happen though.
