Pretty much, yeah. The owner(s) did bring the site back for a few hours so people could save stuff but then ended up just shutting it down without any warning again. It was messed up. The only way anyone sort of found out what happened was through a Facebook group that was started.

Wow, that really sucks! [gonk] I wish they'd at least given a forewarning, like maybe a month or at least a week so people have more preparation for what's to come. [:(] |
Yeah. I'm grateful Roli gave a few months notice. And I do still have some things I saved unintentionally so that's cool. 😊

Yeah, it was only looking back through my photobucket that I saw I actually have quite a bit of stuff saved over time, even some stuff from Gaia, though it was mostly drawings and not avatars. [ninja] |
Yeah but that's the thing, they were going to bring it back for 3 DAYS. And Emy closed it down after 3 HOURS and that was that. Gone forever. It was such a rage quit and none of us knew why. Like the paid STAFF wasn't even told. That was someone's entire income and they were stuck suddenly without a job because of it. And the owner knew it was going under and that this was gonna happen. But didn't tell us much. There were even people who would have bought it or donated because it was that loved. Like how Roli had that summer fundraiser, If Ernya had done that, it would have been fine. It was SUCH bs

Oh yeah, I was gonna mention that the staff didn't even have any idea and just suddenly lost their jobs that day too. Thanks for adding that, Ruby. Makes it even worse though. Those poor artists/staff. ☹️

i was very sad when Ernya closed, too! the hard pixeling was <3 i loved the avatars and art so much. the way it went was horrible. like why would the owner do that?! and to staff no less?!
if you have to go at all, the way Roli's doing it is the way to go. i'm surprised Emy (was that was the owner was called? i don't quite remember anymore) didn't think they owed everyone that at least. and if you say you'll bring it up for 3 days you can't expect everyone to save whatever they wanted to in the first 3 hours! that's preposterous! i'm not sure which sites shutting hurt me most. solia's overhaul was pretty rough even tho it didn't shut bc a lot of info was lost. like all my messages, most of them with valuable rp info, gone forever. and whuddleworld shutting made me quite sad cos it was my first avi site ever. right now i'm a regular on kingdom of knuffel and trisphee. and trying to get regular here! but the marketplace doesn't work for me, and i've tried multiple browsers and devices, so idk what's up with that. i posted on the glitches thread but should probably go update that post. |
Yeah, being transparent with your users and announcing that you're going to close is really the best way to do it, in my opinion. Users who have often spent lots of time and money on the site deserve at least that much.
I know if I knew Emy was involved in any new ventures (don't ask me how I would since I don't know her real name or anything) I certainly wouldn't want to help since she was so unprofessional about Ernya's closing. 😒 Oh, KofK is still around? I've been meaning to go back there. I could never really get into the avis or community, but I loved those little Knuffels, haha. |

Yeah, there's barely anything for sale there, which makes me sad because I actually have gold to spend on items now. I can always buy in the forum, though.
I'd put some items up for sale to help but I don't know what they're worth or if anyone would even want them, haha. Edit: I did just find the rare item guide so at least I'll know what things are called, since I can't figure that out on my phone when viewing my inventory. 😛 |

I'm overwhelmed by all the items. I did find that I have some items from Valentine's and Halloween 2011 so far, though. Might even sell some of them since I don't think I'd ever use them, and other people might want them. I don't think using the marketplace is a good idea right now, though, and the Exchange forum looks pretty dead. |
