Well your religious name is otherwise known as your true name. Everything in the world has an Earth name and a true name. If you know the true name you have power over it. If someone knows my true name they have a power over me. So you don't reveal your true name to people you don't trust completly.

That's interesting. What sort of power would you have over someone after learning their true name? I'm just curious. I've never really heard of anything like that. Though, it sort of reminds me of ideas about not wanting one's sould caught on film, etc... |

Well, and this is where I sound nuts, when working with magic if you use a true name then the spell is strengthened ten fold. So if say my sister Lynn wanted to cast a spell on me she'd be sure to use my true name. Her weakest spell with a true name would be stronger than her most powerful spell without it. If you get what I mean. Which means you have to be careful who knows your true name. Lynn is likely to send healing, protection, good fortune and so on. She expects the same back. It's un written trust. But if I wanted to I could send a hex on her with her true name which would be devestating. Not only because I'm pretty powerful naturally, but because I know her true name. I would never hex her though. I love her so much!

I personally believe in healing spells and food fortune i dont believe in hex's or love spells. Its basically karma. what you give out is what you receive as she said 3 fold. |

Wicca was founded in 1960's by Gerald Gardener. It is basically taking old religions and doing it in a different way. As far as Angel can gather, but there are so many different branches of it now Angel can't keep up.
Gladly very few people know about my relgion. They can't copy it on a whim and they can't claim to be it to be cool. That makes Angel happy. |

They do do different things. Unless you know someone who still follows an old religion and have seen their practices you can't say that. I've been invited to covens on many occasssions. I have seen several sections of wicca and they do things completly different. I mean for a start, let's take the foundation rule "An it harm none do what thou wilt" Pft! Ever heard of curse tablets? Common practice in most ancient religions.
Wicca is the same gods, just a completly different way of worshipping them. |
If you say so. I am not going to argue religion because i have more respect that that for what i believe in. I don't force people to believe in what i do. Not saying you are mind you. You have yours and I have mine.
and I DON'T believe in any type of cures. I believe in Karma as well. Curse tablets i believe are "stupid" in sense they should have never been made. And i do people what you do is what comes back to you. As much as i studied it, I haven't seen much difference is what i am saying from what I have learned. I shall not argue about this. |
The whole thing is different. Think about it, if it weren't different it would still be called by it's origional name and not Wicca. Wouldn't it?
Plus the simple fact that after hearing how we do something you say you've never heard of it in wicca kinda proves that it's different unless you don't actually know much about wicca either. In which case you really shouldn't voice about either. And no I will not have someone stand there and tell me my religion is the same as another when it most certainly is not! |

I looked at Wicca, but it wasn't for me. I know a lot of real wiccans though. They're awesome people. It's a pretty good religion, but it's too light and airy for me. Like if a child were to design a religion around old gods. You have these ferocious gods who smite people and each other, chop their own parents genetils off and a Religion that's all posative and good and the goods themselves have bad points. It doesn't mesh well for me. |

Yeah, my mom's a drug addict so most of her beliefs spring from when she's high. She thought she would convert to being a mormon at some point, and was really into that, shortly after telling me she was Wiccan. But she also told me she was Budhist (sp?)once. That woman could read a book on Daism and say she was Daist (I have no idea what to call it. xD). And yeah, I'm not very spiritual but most people I meet that are Wiccan make me think of witches and hexing people. I'unno though, I seriously don't have an opinion on the matter. But I like the whole "true name" thing, that's nifty. |
See I pity wiccans for that reason. So many people claim to be wiccan and run around pretending to caste, get bored and move on. People don't do that with mine, because unless you look up Archaeology you won't know much about it at all. It would drive me mad!
