how do I get my avi to show up? Any tips or anything?

I think the best way would be to go to the My Avatar option on your left, and save your avatar with the correct hair and eyes and mouth.

As for tips - well, I'll tell you the same ones I tell everyone else. XD Read the Stickies located at the top of each forum. They're there to help you answer questions - sometimes ones you didn't even know you wanted or needed to know the answer to. XD Each forum may have different rules for posting in it, so make sure to at least look over the Sticky before you post the first few times, to make sure you're following that forum's rules. :3

Once you know your way around (and it doesn't take long), you'll do fine. :3
