Gaia has that free gold if you do stuff thing. Here its a little tougher than gaia to gain gold but its good. The item prices are decent.

A large chunk of us are from Gaia here, so there is a lot of cross-over. Personally I like how you don't start off with gold/items because it's awesome to save up to buy something and then finally get it. Makes you feel accomplished! :) If need a little gold to start though, be sure to check out the games.
