It's not a super popular title nor is the author very well known. At least where I live, but the books are really good. The books were re-published and now vol. 1 and 2 come together as well as 3 and 4. So instead of four books it's only two books.
Summary.

It's a really good story. I was just wondering if anyone else has read it and if so what did they think about it? OR if you haven't read it, would you?

WOW. I read these books when I was a pre-teen. God I feel old now :( I really loved L.J. Smith's work as a kid, a friend introduced me to the books and I was hooked. By the end og the vampire diaries, it really got kind of soap opera-ish though.

You might want to try finding The Forbidden Game series, that was my favorite of everything I'd ever read by her (believe me, it was a lot, everyone else was reading R.L. Stein, I was reading L.J. Smith) Gah, now I have to go through my book shelves and find them. I guess I know what I'm doing today xd

I remember reading these books when they were first published. They're really really good. I like the first three and the fourth is alright, but isn't as good. The fourth felt to me as if the author was trying to tack on a happy ending for everyone.

I've also read a bunch of L.J. Smith's other books, which are amazing too, before she stopped publishing.

Have you read any of her other stuff? Since it isn't published new any longer and they're doing reprints you might be able to find her stuff in used bookstores.

Wow... found this post show... now those books are REALLY popular. I work in a library and they are one of the few series (other than twilight (bleh)) that we can't keep on the shelves!

Yea, I read these books and since I know they were re-published, it pissed me off a whole lot when one person told me,"Those books are just a rip-off of Twilight." Um, no, they were written and published loooooooong before Stephenie Meyer even had her little dream thing about Edward.

Yea, I read all of them, except I bought the most recent one and have only gotten a fourth of the way through it so far. I think I'll finish it eventually, but I'm not reading it right now. I'm being distracted by other books.

My Mom read them as a teenager or something like that, and saved them for me to read when I was old enough. I tried reading them, but I guess I really didn't get 'into' them as much as Anne's Rice's novels. But maybe that's because I was younger. I should try to go back and read them when I have the time to.
My Mom got really excited when they made a TV series about it XD

I KNOW right! These books are ancient compared to Twilight and people still claim that they are a rip off of said annoying series. It really tweaks me off when people claim this kind of crap. Check your sources smart ones!

I've read all of those Twilight books as well and I must say that the fourth one was strange and it took me three-four months to read the thing because it couldn't keep my interest. I liked the first one (which I read -before- the hype started), but they generally went down hill from there and I only read the rest of the series because I'm OCD about finishing things that I've started. >.<

BUT this thread is about The Vampire Diaries, which, sadly, I thought were some of the worst books I've ever read, period. I don't know what it was but I think it had a little something to do with the general feeling of the books. They were like suicide on a stick for me. They weren't good.

I really want to read this series, but I haven't had the chance to get them sent to me from another library. Our library is tiny, so they have to get other books sent in if you want a bigger selection, and then you have to wait for forever to get those books. But we're getting a new one soon, so I'm happy :)

My step mom is OBSESSED with these books. It's really not typical of her personality, either. She isn't into vampires, typically, or anything like that! For some reason she adored these books, though! I'm going to consider reading them. I'm not crazy about vampires or any sort of extreme fantasy element when it comes to reading. From the reviews above me I'm getting mixed signals! I'll probably at least give the book a shot...if I don't like it by page 15, I'll just move on. :3

Oh my gosh I'm reading the last book of the series! I love them, I found them after I had been watching the television series. I love the books so much better, everyone is so different.

These books are a heck of a lot better than Twilight, at least I think so.

Haha, yea. I watched the television show as well, but I actually read the books first. The books are definitely better and I was just so shocked with how they changed the characters. Elena isn't even the same person in the show as the book. D= They are opposites.
