well, I personally already had a cat. my sister already had a cat. and that was really it (I'm talking 12 years ago). a stray showed up on my parents back porch and it went downhill from there. even though they have moved we are apparently in a larger cat population. so the kittens had kittens that had kittens that had kittens. my sister's cat died so she took in one of the cats. then my dad took one in. then I took one in. then, one day, a few months ago, my youngest just waltzed up onto the front porch and went right to my sister. he has been mine ever since. and we just don't have the heart to do anything with all of strays except feed them and try to get them to trust us so we can pet them. we were able to take 6 kittens to the feed store earlier in the summer, but since then no luck. we have 2 right now that are just itty bitty that we are sure we can catch, but they still need to nurse. another 2 who are the right age, are so skittish we'd never be able to tame them enough to adopt out.
