Was having fun looking up chinese zodiacs and their elements and what they may mean earlier, and I thought I'd share so everyone else could like to have a look at theirs too, if they're interested!

Note: For those born in the month of January and early February, mind that your zodiac may be based on the previous Gregorian calender year, as the Chinese zodiacs are based on the lunar calender.

The Earth Dragon – 1928, 1988

The Earth element allows the Dragon to be more grounded, level-headed and stable. Their friendships are long-term commitments, and they tend to be more sociable than other Dragons. However, despite the fact that they are naturally liked by everyone – peers and teachers, colleagues and employers – they have the tendency to remain impersonal, mostly because they are more concerned with creating realistic, practical outcomes than indulging in fanciful ideas.

Their innate talents can be developed and enhanced due to their patient and hardworking nature. As self-motivators, they constantly have the need for personal improvement even if the external world does not call for it. This causes them to be contemplators, who like to spend plenty of time in introspection.

Their need for logic and common sense sees many Earth Dragons maturing into morally-sound and well-rounded individuals. They have clear objectives in life that are realized due to their business acumen, flexibility and creativity. This Dragon is especially resourceful and broad-thinking, producing benefits for the greater good.

It’s not unusual for Earth Dragons to receive accolades within their profession, e.g. Andy Warhol, Che Guevara, Rihanna and Adele to name a few.


Life Lessons:

The Earth Dragon is quick to snap back when their integrity and dignity are criticised. Disembarking from their high horses would help create more admirers and long-term support, which the Earth Dragon secretly desires. He also tends to overspend on many reckless, impulse buys. Curbing his expenditure will create less waste and build more financial stability.

The Metal Pig –1911, 1971, 2031

The Metal Pig is passionate and extreme in whatever he does whether in romantic relationships or at work. He tends to be very trusting and gives his all especially in relationships with others. He is very honest in expressing his feelings. However, he often tends to give others more credit than it is due, putting himself at risk of being disappointed.

The Metal Pig sociable, friendly, outspoken and industrious in his work. It is not unusual for him to do more than is required of him, willingly and happily. This Pig is very generous with his time, efforts and care of others. He has great perseverance and the endurance to see a task through to completion no matter how difficult it may be. Quitting when faced with challenges is not his style.

The Metal Pig tends to rely more on his feelings than logic; his judgment can sometimes be far from objective. Ultimately, as he is still a diplomatic Pig, he does not like confrontation and prefers to keep peace with everyone. He will always resort to conciliatory means in his dealings with others.

However, this does not mean the Metal Pig is a push over. When challenged, he can be a very forceful opponent and will fight all the way to prove a point. When provoked, he can be aggressive and fierce, without losing the objectives he has in mind.



Life Lessons:

The Metal Pig has to learn to be more objective in his dealings with people and try not to let his heart rule his mind. Although it is good to be trusting of others, he must learn to exercise some discretion or risk being taken advantage of and hurt.

The Wood Ox – 1925, 1985

The Wood Ox is very principled yet is the least obstinate of the Oxen. He is also the most accepting of change. He is open to consider others’ ideas and suggestions and unlike his stubborn brethren, the Wood Ox is happy to go along with what everyone else thinks. Also, while he is quite conservative, he is much more open to new ideas than his Ox brothers.

He is also empathetic and gets on well with people. As a result, people look up to and are fond of the Wood Ox – for his moral discipline as well as his respect for others. He is able to create and maintain good relationships in all aspects of his life. With the combination of both flexibility and the ability to cooperate well with others, the Wood Ox has a tremendous potential to excel, especially in the workplace. However, while he is honest and direct, sometimes he is too blunt for comfort.



Life Lessons:

The Wood Ox should work to achieve the potential success that he is capable of. While he has good people skills, he would find more success in his endeavours if he improved his communication skills – he could learn to be a little more sensitive to the feelings of others and try not to be too frank in his honesty!

This is me to a T.

The Metal Sheep – 1931, 1991


The metal Sheep is highly confident and aware of his capabilities. He is kind hearted, has strong principles and a great sense of responsibility. However, he can be very sensitive to feedback from others, often allowing it to affect him and even the people around him. Although he may have a composed exterior, he is highly emotional beneath. He is prone to bouts of being unreasonable and expects people around him to appease his emotional outbursts. This Sheep is likely to insist on having his way or become very depressed and discouraged.
The Sheep naturally enjoys a good life and beautiful surroundings. The Metal element in this Sheep enhances his creative tendencies and he will always look for ways to incorporate beauty into his work.
Socially he is more comfortable with the company of close friends and family. He tends to find comfort in familiarity and dislikes changes or surprises. He’ll need time to fully accept new situations and people. However, he will make it a point to mingle with people whom he thinks will help him in his career or business. In a way, he is an opportunist but to him this is just a necessity for survival.

Life Lessons:
He should try to be less fixated and let go of his preconceived idea of how things should or should not be, or he risks missing many opportunities. He must also learn to be considerate of others’ feelings, lessen his tantrums and learn better control over his emotions so as not to affect others adversely.

Hmm. I know that I'm a water monkey. But when I looked at the quote it kind of didn't seem right to me. I would take criticism and I would answer any question. Some of the things sounds just about right.

The Water Monkey – 1932, 1992

Water softens the Monkey and this element makes the Water Monkey more sensitive and he can react negatively to criticism. The Water Monkey knows what he wants and will do what it takes to get it. The Water element makes this Monkey more fluid and versatile to adapt his methods to achieve his goals. Water also makes him creative, innovative; combined with his cleverness and naturally likeable ways, it’ll also be easy for him to enroll support for his ideas, no matter how unusual they may seem.

He is also charming and affable but does not always reveal his innermost thoughts. Even when confronted, the Water Monkey is likely to avoid direct questions and like water, this Monkey will cleverly flow around the questions he doesn’t want to answer. Monkeys are naturally quite impatient and if things aren’t going the way he wants them to, he is quite likely to just jump ship.

Water also lends a level of intuition to the Monkey and he finds it easy to relate to people on his level. He will go with their flow but manipulate them to his ends without them even knowing it. You may need to be a little wary around this Monkey, for he looks out keenly for his own interests and for every favour he grants you, he will probably expect one back in the near future.



Life Lessons:

Water Monkeys should learn to be able to accept feedback and contemplate on its validity. Lower your ego to consider the feedback and if it is valid, implement it! The Water Monkey can also be more open with his intentions so people can support him better.

The Metal Horse – 1930, 1990

This is the most popular but also stubborn and uncompromising of all the Horses. He is exceptionally friendly and warm-hearted, which will endear him to many people.

The Metal Horse is highly active – so much so that it can be very hard for anyone else around him to keep up. He thrives on excitement, and new challenges that will bring him further and to great heights. At his peak, his stoically unyielding focus and drive will see every job right through to its most successful end, a trait that many distracted, volatile Horses struggle to achieve. Often, this more than capable Horse will not need to depend on anyone to get the job done.

As much as he is driven and focused however, this same quality can make him quite stubborn, unyielding and irresponsible. More so than other Horses, he is fiercely independent and will strongly resist any form of monitoring or regulation. The Metal Horse should be aware that his passionate, driven focus can become plain stubbornness and learn to channel that energy into seeing his endeavors through to a successful completion. His impulsive, headstrong nature could also get him into trouble, so he should be aware that he does not offend others when he speaks and acts.

Mine has always been wildly off (see: the entire second half of the assessment) but in specifically the fire part:

The Fire Tiger – 1926, 1986

Full of energy the Fire Tiger will never fail to make an impression wherever he goes. He is very independent and highly capable, leaving an indelible mark on anything he gets his paws on. Because of his strong capabilities, the Fire Tiger likes a good challenge – bring it on, he declares, he will show you how it’s done. The Metal Dog – 1910, 1970, 2030

The Dog is already known for being a very loyal sign – the Metal Dog is all the more so and can be depended upon to be a stalwart, lifelong friend. Altruistic in nature, this Dog will give everything he has for the sake of someone or something he has committed to, to a point that he may become too overprotective or possessive. It can also mean he often takes a backseat (particularly in relationships) becoming passive and even a little bullied.

Metal Dogs can also tend to be outspoken, especially if it’s for something that they believe in strongly… and boy, can the Metal Dog be righteous. He has extremely high ethical codes and will do whatever it takes to fight for justice, expecting others to be just as principled and noble as himself. He will make himself heard and speak up for others – this is one of the frankest more forthright people you will meet. No beating round the bush, this conservative, serious character will tell it to you as it is.

Their loyalty however, can have a dark side too. It can mean that if someone has wronged them, they become enemies for life and the Metal Dog can be relentless in their drive to get rid of enemies or to force them to align their views to his.



Life Lessons:

The loyal Metal Dog should learn to balance his faithfulness to loved ones by developing his own sense of individuality. Also, while he gets top marks for his high ethical stand, he needs to be a little less imposing on others and relax his conservative views a little.

I like this zodiac because it's the one my actual ancestors used, which makes me feel all in touch with them.

Mine isn't overly accurate. Parts are but... level-headed, well-tempered, reasonable? Pretty sure I'm the opposite on all those cases.

The Earth Snake – 1929, 1989
The Earth element in this Snake makes him the most tempered and reasonable (ummm, I'm far from most tempered, I'm the first person to go on the defense if someone pisses me off). He is still passionate in his endeavours but not at the intensity of other Snakes. As he is more grounded and level-headed, he is able to make good decisions and accurate observations. He’s not as hot-headed (pretty sure my middle name is hot-headed) and more able to work through tasks with perseverance and discipline.

The root sign of the Snake bestows strong leadership characteristics and the Earth Snake certainly lives up to this quality. His earthy, practical and dependable nature makes him very capable at managing people and situations, and finding quick, effective solutions to problems. His analytical sharpness and ability to handle finances very well will also ensure that he can lead a team to stability and success.

The Earth Snake is also more able than most Snakes to get down to grass roots and cooperate with others. He is charming and warm, and more sensitive to the people around him. This, combined with his effortless leadership, sincerity, loyalty and reliability means that he will never be short of friends and people willing to rally around to support his endeavours.

Life Lessons:
Because the Earth Snake is so careful in making decisions, he may be slowed down in managing or reacting to crucial situations. In times like these, he needs to be able to open up more and listen to others’ input, and not insist on following only his own way. While sensitivity to others is a good quality, he needs to learn how to control his own emotions – if not, he’ll be easily offended and become quickly discouraged if anyone opposes him (ahh, this sounds more like me -- easily offended, quick to discourage, and having no control over my emotions).

I do agree with my main element.

The Fire Element
The animal signs related to the Fire Element are the Snake, and the Horse.

Generally, the fixed Fire element determines a very strong sense of confidence, leadership and a strong personality. People born under the Fire element will be seen and heard; they will be active, social, confident and very capable of holding their own.

As far as my sub-element goes. I can see some of these and then there are others that are VERY off.

It may be a bit hard to get through to him at first – he is a Dog after all, and they are always a little cautious of letting people in. However, once you’re in, you have a friend for life. The Wood Dog likes solid, lifelong friendships.

The Wood Dog has his head squarely on his shoulders so even if he is attracted to material wealth, he won’t be over-indulgent and will know how to strike a good balance. This also means that he will also know how to follow the best and more ethical course of action; the Wood Dog has a very strong sense of morals. The Fire Rabbit – 1927, 1987

This is the loudest and most outspoken of the usually tame and courteous Rabbit. Still, he hasn’t lost sight of the Rabbit’s diplomacy and while he is likely to have the temperamental outburst, he is usually easy-going and inoffensive, no matter how passionate he may be.

He is also a very fun character, likely to be at the forefront more than other quieter Rabbits. People like him and find it easy to follow him as a leader because of his natural wit and ability to speak engagingly, emotionally and creatively. Fire Rabbits would make very good leaders not just for their generous hearts and skill for spotting (and harnessing) others’ strengths, but also for the excellent way in which they handle conflict. The Fire Rabbit hardly ever has enemies and even if he did, you’d never know – he’ll resolve it without you even realising there was a problem in the first place.

The intensity of the Fire element also makes this Rabbit quite a perfectionist with high standards and ideals – in wanting the best for his colleagues and loved ones, he may be too exacting of them. The sensitivity of the Fire Rabbit can also mean he is particularly susceptible to mood swings, reacting negatively and rashly to changing environments around him.



Life Lessons:

The Fire Rabbit needs a splash of cold water every now and then! He needs to not let his emotions get the better of him and to exert more control in how he expresses himself. He is already so charming and likeable – why spoil it with impulsive outbursts?

I had a great opportunity to have a lot of fun with this when I hosted the New Year party last year--year of the snake. My roommate and I were from the same elements so we had an extra fun time.
Essentially it just says that I'm pragmatic, good with money, and a charismatic leader. Really, though, it could be assigned to anyone.

I find it intriguing how some fit people to a tee (like mine for example), while other people say their zodiac reading is nothing like them at all.

Yes I did forget to make those deductions.
Some of the Fire Tiger fits me, mostly the negative aspects such as the short temper, tendency to act without considering others and unwillingness to back down when in an argument. The thirst for justice when wronged however also fits.

It's easy to touch base with all the personality aspects from each zodiac, regardless of whether or not it's the sign you were born under. When I was younger, I was remarkably introverted, outrageously shy and lacked even a lick of confidence. It's the opposite now--for whatever reason that might be. And the zodiac I fell under would never have suited me if I had remained.

The Wood Snake – 1965, 2025

The Wood Snake makes the most of his magnetism and is the most approachable and friendly of all the Snakes. While most other Snakes stay quite guarded, this Snake is expressive, creative and communicative. The tenacity of the Snake comes through here in the most beneficial way – he channels it towards relationships, valuing long-lasting friendships and emotional stability. By these virtues, it is easy for this Snake to attract the things that he needs for what he wishes to accomplish – friends, resources and finances come easily to him.

In spite of this however, he is not complacent. He is resourceful and has set a life-long mission to continuously gain knowledge and put it immediately and fully into practice, so as to improve his own and others’ lives. This Snake will have an above-average ability to absorb new information, assimilate and analyse it so it can be used to its fullest potential.

By his effortless charm and strong presence, it is not unusual for Wood Snakes to be famous personalities who draw large followings and fans. Life Lessons:

Though he is about to take on many things and befriend many people, the Wood Snake must be careful not to overstretch his limits for it could have adverse affects on his stress and health. He also needs to be careful not to become too materialistic or caught up in external riches.

Fairly accurate, which surprises me. I'm not as materialistic now as I was when I was younger, but definitely prone to being that way. Having lost much financially pushed me to consider my resources more realistically. Now, I am looking for deals on things and save to collect art from specific artists I know.

I'm also an Earth Dragon. Generally, I feel like descriptions of that sign only half fit me, whereas my Western Zodiac stuff fits me more accurately. I don't really believe in astrology though; it all just seems like random chance to me.

I took a quiz the other day where you answer questions about your personality and it tells you what sign you actually fit best, regardless of when you were born. My birth sign is Taurus, but I got Pisces from the quiz.

The Earth Tiger – 1938, 1998

The Earth Tiger is very self-confident and he has every right to be so. He has both the power of the root Tiger sign as well as the realistic, sensible maturity of the Earth element. He makes decisions based on a thorough consideration of all factors and how feasible something is. He isn’t likely to be carried off by fanciful ideas or impulsive decisions that sound nice but are difficult to execute. He is very capable for his ability to work hard and with great discipline – a lot can be accomplished if you are working with an Earth Tiger.

This Tiger is very intelligent – all the more so because he not only has the ability to absorb a lot of knowledge but is also very capable of applying it to bring out the best results and returns. As with all Tigers, he will love power, authority and recognition; he will also like a good fight, especially on behalf of the underdog.

However, he will be more careful about acquiring these things, preferring to work his way to the top with careful strategy and diligence. More than anything, the Earth Tiger is very kind and will always have the interests of friends and loved ones at the heart of all he does. He has a naturally altruistic nature, as most Tigers do, and a desire to be helpful to others.

This is fairly accurate, but I dislike fighting and am a bit nervous about taking authority over others in fear of messing something up. Interesting.
