So, my boyfriends AWESOME aunt asked me to babysit her two adorable girls when she comes in town for her 20th reunion. I have never babysat before.

I'm supposed to babysit them in their hotel room (my boyfriends coming; we already know to be good. Haha.) from 6:30pm until they return.

The girls:
4 & 8 (I think.)
They are both first place swimming winners. The younger one beats up boys all the time. They are both adorable and they love me.

I'm just not sure what to do with them during that time. Their mother, a martial artist, even has trouble getting them to bed. They are full of energy, so I think the watch a movie till they fall asleep strategy of my mother's will not work.

I would say bring something with you that might stimulate them mentally, Like a board game or maybe a craft project safe for their ages. If they have a lot of energy this might help them calm down a bit.

One thing I learned when babysitting high energy kids, is that generally, to get them to calm down, you have to be calm as well. If you've ever watched the Dog Whisperer, it's the same basic ideas on how to get them to behave and calm down and relax; is to be calm and assertive. I know it sounds weird comparing little kids to pets XD but it can be pretty similar sometimes.
But with little kids, sometimes its also best to just let them let out their energy (without destroying things of course) and then they'll calm down. So I like Gawqueenpenguin's idea of bringing somethings with you. Bring some board games; but if they get bored with that, jave a backup plan of some sort of fun hands-on crafty thing. And have a couple movies or something too, so once they start to settle down a little bit, you can pop it in and let them relax.
Anyways, good luck and have fun :)

Do they like to run? If you guys enjoy jogging, why not have them jog around the block a few times until the sun goes down/curfew? If they are well behave kids, which I'm sure they are, they should be able to stick with you and not run off somewhere without you looking. xD;; They will definitely get tired from running. LOL!

It's the safest physical activity I can suggest. Being stuck in a hotel doesn't help much, if you were at a place that has a backyard though you can set up some physical activities.

Like Gawqueenpenguin and Rhayne already said bring somethings with you for the between times. In the begining though try doing some physical things, like hide and seek, rock, paper, scissors, and maybe dancing.
After words pick out a movie, and just have a bit of quiet time.

Just remember to be firm when you need to be, or they won't behave for very long.
When it comes to getting them to go to sleep, see if you can get them to make a promise or try to make a deal with them. If they don't go through with their end of the promise then you tell them that it's not nice or good to break promises, and work from there.

Just so you know that dosn't always work but it can help.

So really just get rid of their energy, so that it will make it simpler to get them to go to sleep.
While making sure that they have a good time as well.

I hope that helps.(works for me when I babysit the neighbors kids, and I keep getting asked back)
