What is MyHogwarts, anyway? This is the first I've heard of it.

Iltu - I am so jealous of those courses!! That sounds absolutely amazing!!

MyHogwarts is essentially an extension of Hogwarts and the HP world created by fellow fans who are treating it like Hogwarts the online college. They don't sort you, so you can either put yourself in a house based on your Pottermore sorting or your own opinions, and they actually have you sign up and take classes. People have written text books for each one, they're going to have their own wizard rock station, a choir, social opportunities with fellow HP fans, a Daily Prophet publication, etc. It's definitely shaping up to be pretty interesting!

That sounds cool! A bit intensive, though... Unless the classes will be like a game?

The classes are pretty much optional, and I'm sure the entertainment level will vary from Prof to Prof. From what they've released so far it seems like one lesson per week from each class so people can still live their lives and not get overwhelmed by a full work load from an illegitimate college

Apparently it was a class about the philosophy behind different spells and whatnot in Harry Potter. So using Harry Potter to teach philosophy, basically. I do hope they offer it again one day, I'd love to take it!

MyHogwarts sounds really neat! It'll be interesting to see how they'll go about doing all that.

My university bookshop has a whole series of books like this including Harry Potter and Philosphy. The things you find when you wander out of the Chemistry section.

MyHogwarts sounds pretty in-depth, as a non-roleplayer I'd probably have trouble staying 'in character'.

@ Kat: I'd probably be able to keep in-character pretty well...then again, I RP a lot.

@Taiyo - I tried to go into what MyHogwarts is a couple posts ago. Described it and slid in a link to the site so you can read more info abou it than I managed to type. :)

The great thing about MyHogwarts is that it really isn't an RP site. You can still just join as yourself and see what it's all about and go more in depth with courses that were only glossed over in the books. Not that I'm saying that roleplaying won't be going on, because I'm sure that people will be doing plenty of that as well.

I'm still pretty excited about the textbooks, to be honest. Haha.

I'd probably get wrong (or just on people's nerves) for breaking the fourth wall all the time and referring to Hogwarts as if it wasn't real. XD
It is real, don't panic.

I don't suggest doing that in classes, Kat.....

Yeah, it sounds like they're building up a pretty hefty library for the site. I always used to enjoy reading essays in The Leaky Cauldron and other fan sites, so it'll be interesting to see what people have come up with since the final book/movie was released. If nothing else, it'll be a good time waster.

Oh, darn! I've been making myself read a chapter every day (minus weekends spent at home) since early January and yesterday was the first day I missed. I ended up working on a project until three AM, I had to get up at seven and I just completely forgot. Remembering to read got lost in the shuffle of the day. How disappointing!

East- I'm in about the same boat, I'm hoping to get caught up over spring and summer break. What's your book goal this year?

Heh...I usually end up reading more than just a chapter a day.

I usually do as well, except when I'm really tired or busy. I just need the constant goal of one chapter per day because it's what actually makes me sit down and start reading, instead of saying that I'm too exhausted or have too much to do or some other excuse. Once I get that chapter done I'm usually like, "Oh boy one more! And one more! One more won't hurt! Just another..."
And even on days where that's not the case and I do only read that single chapter, it's always nice to feel like I've done what I've set out to do despite whatever's going on. :D

@ Iltu: I don't bother giving myself a chapter a day goal...the only excuse I need to read is boredom, and there's a LOT of that at my place.

I haven't read for the past few days... I started a book, but it struck me as so trite that I didn't even finish the chapter before losing the will to read it, and I haven't felt like picking it back up since. But it's one of the ones I won on Goodreads, so I feel like I'm obligated to read it so I can give it a review.

Definitely! There are a lot of aspects that I'm excited about when it comes to that site but I can't get over how thorough the textbooks are going to be. I mean, if we ever wanted to know more about Herbology or Arithmancy, we're going to have that information. Sure, it'll be fan-created, but it'll be something.

I think it's going to be fulfilling on a level that Pottermore doesn't quite cover.

Knerd: I made a new list a handful of pages back and the front still links to my list from '09. Would you please have it link to this post?

Cherry -
Yuck. That's gotta be disappointing. But I know what you mean, I keep trying to finish the book I'm currently working on so that I'll be ready to move on to the book that I won on Goodreads when it finally gets here, but there are a handful of things I'd love to read before that one.
I'm sorry your prize isn't appealing to you. :(
