That's awesome! How much more time do you have before your year is over?

Four months.

On another note, one of the most recent books I've read is Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary. Ah, so funny and true it is.

Go Taiyo!

I can read on the train because it's direct but on buses I worry about missing my stop too much.

I don't do well when it comes to reading in cars...it makes me sick and I feel like I'm gong to throw up.

School has kind of killed my free-reading time the past few weeks, and I'm super sad about it.
I mean, I love my new school, and I love what I'm doing... but the text for class has been about all I've had time to read. That and Escoffier while doing homework. It's been taxing.

Just finished The Atrocity Archive, but not read the novella at the back of the single volume publication of what was originally a serialised short novel (According to wikipedia)

Hugely entertaining, who knew Cthulhupunk espionage could be so funny?

Not sure if I'm going to count the Novella as something separate for the challenge or not, really.

Yesterday at a thrift store I found a box set of all the Lord of the Rings books plus The Hobbit for a total of $3.83! They're just paperbacks, but they're in nice condition and that was so cheap. Shipping charges for a single book are, like, $4 now, so I couldn't have gotten these cheaper online, even if they were listed for $0.01.

I already had an identical copy of The Hobbit, but mine isn't in such a nice condition (Okay, I wasn't so nice to paperbacks when I was 11, give me a break). I need to reread it, so what I'm going to do is reread my old copy (so I don't have to worry about messing it up, since it's already messed up) and then donate that copy to Goodwill and keep the new-to-me one.

Anyway, I'm really happy about this because I've been wanting to read the LoTR books so bad, but I didn't have much money for it.

I think I just counted The Atrocity Archives as one book but if it is on a list it'll be a couple of years ago now. I can definitely recommend the rest of the Laundry series. It's what made me pick up Lovecraft again and become even more obsessed.

I'm basically musing around if I'd have counted the middle novellas when I was reading the anthology editions of The Vorkosigan Saga and basing my decision on that.

Probably not, really.

I hit a bit of a road block with Moby Dick because it's boring me.
I like it when Ishmael isn't going on and on about stuff like the color of his pants.
My cousin tells me it picks up soon? I hope so.

I took a detour and reread a book I haven't read in forever. I moved into my own place and all my books. And outta storage and there it was. It's The Hunger. A pretty interesting vampire novel.

I pulled so many Dean Koontz books outta storage lol. He was my favorite author when I was 13 through like 17.
I'll probably reread some of them but I don't know.

I'm considering trying BookMooch again. My first experience with them wasn't very good though so idk.

Patricia Terry's translation of Reynard the Fox arrived in about two weeks ago, picked it up the Friday before last. (Go figure I get the sms about it arriving while away for a week, heh)

Might reread that at some point soonish.

Meanwhile just read #4 of the current incarnations of both World's Finest and Earth 2, nearly finished Grant Morrison's Supergods (Equal parts discussion of the evolution of the superhero genre and autobiography of his experiences with the genre and medium as both a writer and a reader)

This is the farthest along that I've ever been in summer. I might just end up reading more than 50 books this year, which would be wonderful! I don't know if I've ever managed to go past my goal.

ktbee, you don't have to try to for 50 books by the end of December if you think that's too hard. You can lower the challenge down to 20 or 10, or just measure "your" year until August 2013. Anything goes here.

Hmm... Realistically speaking, I only read during school breaks, so that might be good. :) I did read some during Spring Break though.. Maybe I should go from March 2012-March 2013 then.... :) I'll go rummage around for the books I've read. :)

Haha I'm not so good at multi-tasking. I do have a long drawing list though, so I'll try to balance both.. xD;;

I've had to drop down to 30 books, and according to Goodreads, I'm 5 books behind. >< Tomorrow I have to return yet another library book that I wasn't able to finish before it was due back. I was going to check out The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the last book I had to return before finishing) when I dropped this book off, so I could finally finish it, but then this morning I got a call that a book I had been on a long, long waitlist for is finally available and I have to go get it ASAP. So tomorrow I'm returning Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell not even a third of the way finished so I can check out The Hunger Games which... let's be honest, I may not finish. Then I can check out The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo again and just maybe finish it!

I'd say I need to just read my own books, but the due dates do motivate me to read more, just not enough. And school's starting in a week or two... I apparently need to go reread A Series of Unfortunate Events since my tiny little baby brain is refusing to take much of what is fairly easy reading.

I'm a little frustrated with myself, can you tell?
