@LaVida: I *so* want to see that. I know Ursula LeGuin's daughter — she's a cellist like me — and I'm trying to work up the nerve to ask if I can meet her mother. I'm a huge fan. Though I did hear that Ursula LeGuin was upset that Ghibli animated the main character (what was his name?) as a white-skinned person, rather than dark-skinned, as it is in the book.
Well, Studio Ghibli does change a ton of stuff and there's usually at least one thing or another that the author would disagree with the film :d lol, go ask! I'm sure you'll find the courage to do so ;) oh, and I used to play the violin for a year in Grade 7 or was it Grade 8 :d

Princess Mononoke has to be my all-time favorite of his work... though I do enjoy just about everything he's ever done. I've been watching it with my son recently and he really loves it. It makes me proud.

I think that Princess Mononoke is his best developed film. It's beautifully styled and planned, I adore pretty much everything about it.

The last Studio Ghibli film I actually saw was Ponyo, and I can't say that I cared for it. :-/

I'm not a huge fan of Panyo... but my son really loves it... so we watch it just about every night. It's better than watching Disney/Pixar Cars 6 times a day... ^.^;;

aw..I liked Ponyo. It was cute. But I love Princess Mononoke. It took me a while to actually like it, though. I first watched it when I was about 8...and had no idea what I was getting into. Buttt it's a great movie. >.> I also really like Nausicaa. I've heard not a lot of people like it, but it's up there with Mononoke and Howl for me.

It's a tie between Howl, Nausicaa, Spirited away, and Kiki's Delivery Service for me :d

haha those last two are close behind. They're great...but I guess I just didn't take to them as well? I dunno. I still have more to see--haven't actually finished the set. Oh! And I completely forgot: My Neighbor Totoro! I've only seen it once so far, but I really liked it. =]

Anddd the set, you might be able to find on Ebay. It's great as long as you don't mind subtitles. Only a couple have English dubs, like Kiki. It came with Ponyo, too, so I had Ponyo over here (with subtitles) before it was released in the US. >D

My favorite Studio Ghibli is Whisper of the Heart, which is not directed by Miyazaki, but still a Ghibli film. For the Miyazaki-directed ones, it's Totoro all the way.

I rather despise dubs, personally, but in some cases the soundtracks have been changed with the English version, so I need to have access to those, too. Aren't there dubs for most of them now? Kiki, Totoro, Howl, Nausicaa, Whisper of the Heart, Ponyo, Mononoke...

I really did like Whisper of the Heart as well... I only knew it existed because I saw a music video with clips of it in there. It was set to Vanessa Carlton's 1000 miles.

You guys got me browsing Youtube about Studio Ghibli, and I found this:

How to Destroy a Theme Song

Dubs and Americanization bother me to no end.
You see it all the time in literature. Translations that pan to their audience never quite measure up to the original work.

Ahhh..I never got to Whisper of the Heart. I watched most of them at my friend's house, and she gets majorly creeped by anthropomorphic animals. So...we skipped over that one..

And I agree. Dubs aren't usually my thing. But if I'm tired and don't have my contacts in, I may put up with it. XD

And Knerd: I think I've seen that before. Funny thing is, while I saw the movie in theaters here, I never actually heard much of that song. It was apparently on Disney Channel a LOT, but since I don't watch TV, I didn't even know. I was waiting for its release by listening to the original soundtrack online...>.>

It is kind of annoying how everything over here gets translated into rock or hiphop and lots of SMASH KABOOM kind of movies. Too much business over here and not enough creativity.

Aww! I love Tinkerbell. XD Haven't gotten my hand on any books, though. They were rather expensive down in Disneyworld--the last time I saw any.

Right now, I'm reading several non-fiction books at the same time. That's sort of a bad idea, but the ones I really want to read are physics books and though they're not necessarily complicated, they require extra concentration than the fiction ones I was burning through last week. D= Hopefully I'll finish two of them by the end of the month so I stay on track for my challenge. =D

Happy Starr: I got mine from the book store so they were $9 each so not bad of a price.

I've finished reading Skulduggery Pleasant-Playing with fire by derek landyand I must say it was a good action packed book filled with lots of excitement and adventure. Ended with twist so will be looking forward to reading the next one in the series. Not sure how many there are out there but will read it soon.

Taiyo: Oh okay. I'll read it soon and tell you what I think of it.

I've heard of it. It sounds...intriguing, at least. Not something I'd spend an entire vacation on, but might stop by if I were already there.
