Has he always been like that? (meaning only having one good eye)

I adopted him like that. He had an eye infection when he was younger and he survived but lost the use of that eye. He's ornery and distrustful but he likes talking and being in my pocket.

He likes me, kind of. He hates anyone in his cage, he doesn't like being touched, but he will hang out in my pocket or under my chin when he's out. I need to go trim his wings. brb.

Trim his wings? Why do you do that?

I trim the flight feathers so he can't fly. He only has the one functioning eye so his depth perception isn't all that good and I don't want him hurting himself by flying into things.
Ok. he's not happy, he bit me and then burrowed into my sweatshirt, I got most of one wing, there's still a blood feather. and the other wing is still pretty short.

Blood feather? does that mean you trimmed it too short?

A blood feather is a feather that's still growing and has blood in it. you can really hurt the bird by cutting those. After a feather has come in all the way it's basically dead, like hair.

Interesting so if you pulled a feather off that is fully grown would it hurt?

Like pulling a hair out. wouldn't do any permanent damage but it would still hurt plenty.

can you give birds haircuts?

and how can you tell if a feather is a blood feather?

Blood feathers have what looks like a sheath around part of it where it's growing out. And I suppose you could give them a haircut... But Budgies don't have a crest to do anything with.

Yup. Although I would use food dye for safety. Birds constantly preen their feathers with their beaks.

I doubt it. The Ammonia will kill them.

Miro's right about the ammonia, but food based dyes like beat juice should be fine though.
