@Knerd-
Those look like some really interesting reads right there! A shame your course does not include Decolonizing Methodologies, by Linda Tuhiwai Smith. While I am not sure whether I think it should be a required text for undergrad, I certainly think it should be compulsory for higher studies.

Does anyone know why the hell college textbooks have to be so damned expensive?!

I have no idea...I wonder that too!But then again think of all the research people need to put into each one).They want to have the most accurate information they can get,because people's learning will be based on the text and if they make a mistake then a whole slew of people will learn the wrong thing!

Just finished reading The Merlin Effect by T.A.Barron. I have to say, he spins a good yarn. ^^ Makes me want to read more Merlin tales, haha.

Have any of you heard of bookcrossing? bookcrossing.com

I recently stumbled across the site, and plan to release a couple of old books I have lying around in my local city.

Has anyone come across a bookcrossing book?

I think the whole idea of sharing books in this way is rather interesting.

I haven't heard of that before Ling. I finally finished reading Torment by Lauren Kate. It's a great, griping, nail biting read. :)

Hmm, I'm sure I've heard of a similar idea to the BookCrossing things before, people who travel who leave their books in the country they're in. I don't think they could keep up with the book this way though.. where did I read it again? In the paper I think..
It's an interesting idea, though I'm such a collector that it'd be hard for me to let go of books to strangers knowing I'd probably never see them again.. :ninja: Plus, I usually only buy books I know I'll want to keep for collectors reasons or books I know I can read again and again.

Yeah, I'm with ljosberinn on this. I am not sure I like the idea of giving some of my books up. o.o An interesting idea all the same though.

I think I've either seen that website or one very similar before. I buy a lot of books second hand or from charity shops so they tend to go back to somewhere similar if I don't keep them.

All of the books 'released' around here seem to be in various branches of Starbucks anyway which is somewhere I don't usually go of my own volition. ^^;

Oh ok...I had the two books I am planning on releasing have been just taking up space on my bookshelf,I've already read them and while they were enjoyable I don't have any plans on reading them again. :D For me bookcrossing is a way to get rid of books and hopefully find new ones.

So... I was reading Fairest, but I kinda left it at work. And I'm not sure when I can get it back, because they closed the building down. They were too stupid to get the snow from 6 storms off the roof... And then it rained, so they think the roof might collapse. I really hope not. T_T

Hi, I would like to join this challenge! Since the month has begun, I have read a few books, so I guess I'll count my start date as February first.
1. The Sea of Monsters by. Rick Riordan
2. Its kind of a funny story by. Ned Vizzini

I need to start Heart of Darkness soon-ish! By Wednesday night, I think. but right now I'm trying to race through the end of Five Odd Honors, because IT'S CRAZY RIGHT NOW. I am so stressed about what's happening to the characters. The reason I'm not reading right this moment is because I'm busy doing my homework and... slacking on my homework... :oops:

Best of luck to you, Dragon! :) Glad to have you aboard.

I will simply respond to this by quoting Ana Kasparian.

Ah, people have told me that Heart of Darkness is a book which I should also get around to reading at some point. I myself am not sure whether I would find it to be an enjoyable exercise. I am curious though to read it and then read An Image of Africa by Chinua Achebe.

In other news, I got three more books in the post today. Which is pretty awesome as I added to my collection of classical texts which I am hoping to incorporate into my reading challenge for the year. One is The Golden Bough by Sir James Frazer, the other is The Prince and the Discourses translated from the work by Machiavelli. Although I am most likely leaning towards reading Homo Hierarchicus next. It is one of the many books I have owned for a while but not gotten round to reading. Although I am almost shooting myself in the foot by selecting it. As it is going to be quite heavy and slow reading for one of my level. u.u
