Introduction

You're late! You're late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! You're late, you're late,YOU'RE LATE!!!

Darn right you're late! And the Hatter does not appreciate such, even if his watch is two days slow!

Take a look here to see the OOC forum of this roleplay, and if you have any suggestions after reading this, please post so there.

I'm not certain as to an exact setting of this roleplay, but I imagined a city perhaps, or a suburban area at the very least. I don't know whether the characters would be in school or if they'd just be living their lives. The choice is up to you guys and how you play it out!

Story

Everyone has a wish.... And it would be truly wonderful if all wishes could be brought into fruition.... But alas, many people have worked hard to achieve nothing, and many people more have achieved that something and lost everything in turn... And yet, despite the futility of it, people always keep a wish in their hearts.

Perhaps that's why the shop just one day appeared- perhaps it was just the mystery surrounding wishes given a tangible form. Because not everyone can see it- only those with a desperate wish in their hearts can- those willing to risk it all for the sake of their wish.
The owner doesn't have a name, he's simply known as the Mad Hatter- because you'd have to be quite mad indeed to barter with him at all.....

"But..." He'll flash a devilish smirk at you, "I can make your wish come true.... For a price, that is...."

You see, for him to help you with your wish, you must give up something of equal value to him; in return, he will give you a pocketwatch. Now that might sound silly, but that pocketwatch does amazing things... It allows the user to transform into something entirely new with incredible powers.... Those powers different for every person, because the watch only gives you the means to obtain your wish, for the Hatter knows if you don't obtain the wish on your own, you don't ever truly obtain it at all.
Thus the pocketwatch could make you fly, it could let you turn invisible... The possibilities are limitless...... But there are some rules that come with the game- and the hatter will tell you not to break them....

"Though I certainly won't complain if you do..."

1. You cannot tell anyone about the pocketwatch and the unique abilities it gives you.

2. The pocketwatch does not tell time, rather it tells how long- specifically how long you have to complete your wish. You must complete your wish within this time or you'll lose your chance.

3. Corresponding with rule number 1, do NOT use your powers for any means other than completing your wish. The more you do so- even if for good reason- the more time you lose to complete your wish.

4. Should you complete your wish in the scheduled time, you must return the watch to the shop and give up your powers- in return, you will receive what it was that you gave up for the watch in the first place.

5. "I have a 'no return' policy... Once you start the game, you have to play until you win.... or lose.... Heh heh...."

If you fail to follow any one of these rules, you will not only lose your 'watch' abilities, but the Hatter gets to keep your payment. In other words, you'll lose forever whatever treasure you gave up for the sake of your wish.

So what is your wish? To find love? To kill someone? Perhaps something deeper? Would you risk everything to get it?

Do you have what it takes to obtain your wish?

The Wishes

If you have any ideas of your own that would fit in, please say them, as I'm always open to ideas. ^^

You have to keep in mind that none of the characters can tell the others who they are, and so they don't know that another person has a wish power.....

Alice Alice's wish is to make her love love her back.... I.E the Cheshire Cat.

The Cheshire Cat The Cheshire Cat's wish is to never fall in love again, for personal reasons of his own.

The White Rabbit The Rabbit has a crush on Alice, and seeks to make her love him in return.

The Queen of Hearts The queen wishes to kill the Cheshire Cat... Perhaps over an affair of the heart that went wrong....

The Mouse The Mouse is dying from a terrible sickness, but he has accepted his fate for personal reasons. Yet people keep giving him treatments and trying to save him. His wish is to push everyone away so he can die in peace.

The Caterpillar The Caterpillar has a loved one- the Mouse- who's very sick; he(or she) is dying. His wish is to save this person no matter what the cost.

The Duchess The Duchess is angry at The King for personal reasons. She seeks to ruin him, destroying his wish by making him fall in love with her so that she can crush him.

The King of Hearts The King lost a loved one, and never was quite able to live it down. His wish is to seal off his emotions permenantly, so that he will no longer feel the pain.

The Knave of Hearts The Knave had to watch his closest friend- the King- bottle himself up over his loss; his wish is to force his friend to feel his pain and grieve, so that he can recover and move on with his life.

Tweedledee And Tweedledum Tweedledee's wish is to be recognized as a separate identity from his twin, but Tweedledum's wish is to be with his twin forever.... However, they share the same watch... Perhaps their wishes are not so different.... {Thanks ox3tyi}

The Red Queen The Red Queen has been the White Queen's friend for a long while, but since the 'traumatic incident' her friend just hasn't been the same. She wants the White Queen to remember who she is, along with remembering their friendship.

The White Queen The White Queen went through some trauma, and no longer remembers a great deal of her life- save the past couple of years. However, for fear of the pain the memories will bring, she does not want to remember at all.

The Gryphon The Gryphon has led a hard life that's left him cold and cruel. His wish is simply that no one else's wish will come true, he wants to destroy the worlds of those who destroyed his.

The March Hare The March Hare's simple wish is to make all others come true. He has lived with everything he could desire all his life, but giving others what they desire is something he has never yet achieved.

The Hatter Since this character is kinda important to the plot, I'd insist on playing him myself..... Even he has a wish. And to get that wish, his payment was that he had to give other people the chance to earn their wishes too.

I imagine I could add more characters.... But I'm not sure how many people will join, nor am I a hundred percent sure on everyone's wishes. ^^; So 15 seems plenty... I may even have to decrease that number o-o

The Rules

Ya gotta have 'em for the sake of madness (for although madness is dominat in Wonderland, a mad RP would not be good!) So here they are!

1. Stick With The Story
I understand that there's a lot of potential for a lot of different things to happen in this RP, however, please use that lump three feet above your booty and consider the basic plot of the RP before doing anything drastic. If you're not sure whether something's allowed, PM me and ask me first! But please for pity's sake stick with the dang plot!

2. No Man's Land
Corresponding with rule 1. If you have your character run off to the middle of nowhere without thinking of consequences, don't come crying to me when you run out of stuff to roleplay and don't have anything to do. It's not my obligation to make sure that you and your characters remain a part of the RP. As long as you stay on topic and obey rule 1, you shouldn't have to worry about rule 2.

3. No God Actors
Yes, I understand that all our characters have special powers and such, and I don't deny that every character deserves a chance to kick some ass every once in awhile. However, if you can obliterate an army of the Queen's Cards with a toothbrush and a box of Crayolas, well, you're probably a bit too powerful. Try to keep things balanced, 'kay?

4. No Damsels in Distress
Corresponding with rule 3. Don't have your character get into trouble every two dang seconds. Yes, a little drama here and there is nice, it adds thickness to the plot, but if your character goes into a coma because she broke a nail, you need to consider the possibility that you're overdoing it. Balance is key.

5. Literacy
OOC chat is one thing, but otherwise use that nice big vocabulary that you have and stay away from chatspeak! Perfect grammar isn't necessary, but we have to be able to understand it.

6. PG 13 Nothing more!
Keep it appropriate guys! 'Nuff said!

7. Don't Ask to Join and Never Add
It's happened before. I understand being busy IRL and not being able to post, but try and tell me if something comes up so we're not waiting for you to post if you can't.

8. ( ) [ ] and { } Your Best Friends!
Use for OOC chat in this forum!

9. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME!!
Most important rule!

If you have a problem with the rules PM me. However, don't disobey them, I am master around here and what I say goes. I reserve the right to change rules as I see fit.

Obey the thread moderators as well.

{I'm going to get this thing started because I don't wanna make people wait more! Hopefully more people will join soon!}

It had been a quiet day so far. It wasn't raining, but the clouds in the sky must have been keeping people inside, for the only sound that could be heard in the shop was the ticking of the Hatter's pocket watch. He plopped down on a plush chair and glanced at it; it didn't have the accurate time, but somehow he was rather amused at what he saw when he looked at it.
"Has it really been that long...?" It was almost hard to believe that so long had passed.... But it wouldn't be much longer now before he got his wish- before his time could move forward again.
His gaze shifted away from the watch around the shop, taking in all the beautiful artifacts and shining jewels, the jars filled with strange glowing lights.... Those "wares" were meaningless to him as he had very little use with riches or money... and things like the emotions or memories of others were nothing more than mere trophies. They were simply the merits he gained when the wishes of those who came into his shop went bad... But they served as eye candy to those who dared enter, enticing them further into taking the risk....

The tinkling of someone coming through the door made the Hatter look up. Perhaps there was another wish to be fulfilled...

Akira didn't know how things were going to pan out. She had wrote a letter to Thomas. Would he read it or would he just glance at it before throwing it in the garbage? And if he did read it, what would he say to her? Would he even say anything at all? I should really be home hitting the books. She had a huge test coming up at the end of the week.

On her way home, she noticed a little shop that hadn't been where it was now. It couldn't have been. She was swore that the shops on either side were right next to each other with very little room in between. How could a building all of a sudden exist between them? Intrigued, she turned toward it and walked through the front door with a slight giggle of the bells.

She looked around the shop at all of the contents. What an odd place? She was unsure what kind of shop it was. Was it something like a pawn shop? THen she noticed a man sitting in a plush chair.

The Hatter took in the appearance of the girl who'd entered his shop critically; she looked like the sort who studied hard and worried about their future... Yet she had a hunger in his eyes that he clearly recognized. Even someone as gifted as her had a wish.... He took a moment to decipher what that was.... "Ah, love." He refrained a laugh, "How very naive." Seeing the rather hesitant look on her face, he approached her with his most charming smile.

"I'm terribly sorry to have not met you at the door." He said, bowing politely, "It is not often that I get customers interested in the game that I sell."

They went further into the shop, until they finally reached a small room with a rather long table surrounded by plush chairs similar to the one he'd been sitting on earlier. Despite having admitted he'd not planned on any customers, there was hot tea that awaited on the table as the Hatter pulled out a chair and offered the girl a seat.

"You may call me The Hatter." He said, taking a seat himself across the table, "Now, I already know what you desire, but tell me, does the bearer of this lovely wish have a name?"

Akira was surprised that the man bowed to her. She had never met anyone who bowed these days. "It's okay." With that, she followed the man further into the shop. She wasn't sure were they were going until they stopped in a room with a long table and numerous plush chairs. She noticed the tea and thought, Not waiting for customers?

She sat down in the seat the man had pulled out for her. Once again, something you don't see in this day and age. When the man told her what to call him, she thought it was odd. The Hatter? Was this by some chance a hat shop? And what was this about her desire? She usually didn't wear any hats. "It's Akira."

"Akira..." The hatter repeated the name slowly, so as to get a feel for it, then he smiled and placed his hands on the table, eying her over them with interest- now was the moment of truth. Bargaining time.

"Well, Akira, I am by no means attempting to be rude-" Indeed, his voice was perfectly cordial as he poured a cup of tea and offered it to her, "-But I shall get right to the point and skip the idle chatter for the sake of saving us both some boredom." He then stood up and walked over to an extremely old looking cabinet, opening it up carefully and pulling out a shiny pocketwatch much like his own; he then placed it on the table in between them before resuming his seat.

"Now, placing the matter of what's possible and what is still possible but you believe it not to be aside.... what would you say if I were to tell you that I could grant your wish? His eyes narrowed slyly, knowing he'd have to throw her a bone to get her attention, "Even your wish for someone's love can be granted by my wares... If you accept my offer that is."

Akira was shocked that he knew of her wish. How could anyone know something like that? It was like the man could read her mind. The thought of it made her uneasy. If he could read her mind, what else could he do? She looked down at the table where the Hatter had placed the pocketwatch. Was that his offer? A pocketwatch?

Looking up at the man, she asked, "I believe most wishes can not be granted without some miracle, but what is this offer you speak of?" She wasn't exactly sure what this guy was after, but she'd thought she play on. Maybe he could grant her wish after all. There was only one way to find out.

"Indeed your words are true." The hatter conceded, the smile never leaving his face and his cordial demeanor remaining deceivingly sly. "Should you accept this offer, you will simply gain abilities-" To emphasize the idea that the abilities he spoke of were surreal, he made another pot of tea appear as if from nowhere and poured her another cup. He'd lured her in already at this point, she would not run away at the sight of magical tea. "-The abilities differ depending on the wish-" He continued, "-I cannot tell you what yours will be, but they will make your wish that much more within reach. Using those abilities as a means to an end, you will achieve your own wish- for if you don't achieve the wish through your own endeavors, have you truly achieved it at all?"

He laughed casually at this paradox, fingering the pocketwatch as he did so. "Now there are a couple of rules to the game- I can't simply go giving out my wares without some restrictions!" These he proceeded to explain, his manner remaining charmingly polite despite the harshness of them. (They're in the post of the story ^^; I don't want to list them all again....)

"Now in the rules a payment is mentioned." The hatter concluded, crossing his arms, "That is where your decision becomes crucial...Your wish for love is your greatest desire.... And so what you give up must be of equal value.... And this could be anything. A physical possession... Perhaps even your soul...." He smirked rather slyly, "It is not a decision you should make lightly... But if your wish is important enough...." He picked up the watch and let the light hit it to emphasize his point....

Akira jumped back when the pot of tea came out of no where. She wasn't one to believe in magic, so automatically she thought of it as some illusion, but something was eating away at her. If it were an illusion, she'd be able to easily figure out how it was done. She listened intently to the rules and thought about what she could give up in return. What was the propability she would achieve her goal? If it wasn't that high, could she give up her soul? "I'm not sure, sir. Given up a soul is not an easy task for anyone."

"Hmmm.... Might I make a different suggestion then?" The Hatter looked thoughtful. He could tell that the girl was intrigued and he didn't want to lose a sale- a chance at his own wish. "Perhaps the payment can be your ability to love at all." He pulled out a strange looking jar- similar to the others on the shelves in his store that were filled with strange glowing things.
"It will go in this jar, but you will still remain connected to the emotion... Only if you don't complete your wish will you truly lose it." He smiled that winning smile smile again. "That's rather a good deal if I do say so myself, it's almost like you're not really giving up anything-" She'd still be able to love after all, only if she failed to complete the wish would she really have to pay; the Hatter was really sticking his neck out for her. "- and with the powers of the watch, and your feelings as deep as they are, fulfilling your wish shouldn't be a problem."

He fingered the watch again, tempting the girl with it, knowing she was considering his offer. "A shake of the hand is all it takes to complete the deal.... And the ability to grant your wish will be at your fingertips."

This new proposal was a tempting one. If she couldn't have to man of her dreams, then she never wanted to love another soul. She could do this, and the man said all it took was the shake of a hand. Whether the man was pulling her finger or not, she'd find out soon enough.

She held out her hand and said, "I accept." It felt like a great burden was lifted off her chest. Even though she'd still have to do some work to get the guy, she felt better about her chances. Even if it was all a hoax, the watch would be like a placebo.

The moment that their hands touched, a glow surrounded the two of them; around their wrists appeared a magical chain, sealing the deal that had been created. Following this a glowing pink mist appeared, surrounding Akira heavily, but it was sucked as if by a vacuum into the jar the hatter had pointed out before. All this happened in a matter of seconds, too quickly for the girl to have a chance to take back her acceptance, or perhaps even fully understand the weight of what had happened... But the Hatter knew.... A new game had begun. The deadly game of wishes had been set into play again.... And no matter what, he would never lose.

He picked up the pocketwatch and placed it into Akira's hands, and just like that, it began to tick away the time. "And so the contract is made." He said with a mysterious smile, "Your game has begun." Then with a snap of his fingers the scene before the girl began to distort and lose shape, and in the blink of an eye she was back on the street.

The shop was no longer where it had just been.... But the pocketwatch was still in her possession.

{I love the mysterious hatter~}

Thomas was on his way home from work at abut that time, and happened to pass right by where the shop had been. He saw Akira in the street, staring at where the shop had been, and shook his head. He recognized her, but he couldn't really recall her name. He wasn't that close to her or anything, but he did recognize her.

Shaking his head a little, he decided to leave her alone. He had to get home and do things anyway. He had a book to finish, cleaning to do, and a friend's pet to take care of.

It was going to be a long weekend for him. And he didn't even know about some new things that had come along, in the form of the shop and Akira...

Even though it was only a few seconds, it seemed to drag on. The chain, the glowing light within the jar, everything made Akira rethink what she had done, but she didn't have time to speak up. She looked down at the pocketwatch before everything around her disappeared and was replaced with the street outside.

Everything seemed like a dream. The buildings on either side of the shop were side by side again. It wasn't until she noticed the watch still in her hand that she realized it wasn't a dream. How could any of it be real, and what was this gift she was given to fulfill her wish?

Akira froze when she sawa Thomas. Had he read her letter yet? She was unsure of what do, so she simply said hi. Then a thought came to her. Whatever her power was, she'd give it a try. The only problem was she didn't know how to use it. Thinking about it for a while, she could feel the atmosphere lighten up a bit. She felt warm and happy.

Thomas was rather surprised when Akira said hi to him. "Hi," he said quietly. "You okay?" She still looked a little out of it, and he didn't want her to collapse on him or anything.

Then he started to relax, and he even smiled a little. Um. Wait a second. Hadn't he just been thinking serious thoughts? But it seemed unimportant now as he looked at Akira.

Akira could have jumped with joy when Thomas replied back. She always want to talk to him, and here he was asking her if she was okay. Quickly she replied, "Um, yeah. I'm fine. Just a little out of it. How are you?"

She smiled up at Thomas. It looked as if whatever this power of hers was working. She was surprised. Something like this couldn't be possible. Maybe if humans used all of their brain capacity.

"That's good." Akira looked around the place. She still couldn't find the shop that she was in earlier. She notice him look at his watch. "You must be busy. I'll talk to you later." The girl became sad and so did the air around them. She looked around confused on how it happened, and if she was the one doing it.

The Hatter's shop had moved to another location- he generally he liked to change location after a customer had left so they couldn't come back and complain... Or demand how to work their powers. It wasn't his job to give them instructions, he gave out the watches- the rest was up to the customer- and the powers were random, so he couldn't know how to control someone else's.
So the shop had simply appeared in another unlikely area, waiting for another unlikely customer with a wish in their heart.... But the Hatter wasn't about to let someone leave his shop without seeing how they were doing; using a nearby mirror, he watched the situation between Akira and Thomas playing out with great amusement... At the same time he tried to analyze her abilities. It could come in handy to know them later...

The boy was a curiosity as well- it was clear in his eyes that he had a wish too.... but because they were not face to face, the Hatter could not determine what that was... Still, if he had a wish it was perfectly plausible that he might end up in the shop later... So he decided not to fret too much over the boy.

"Yeah, I'll see you later." Thomas nodded to her, though he suddenly felt sad. He turned and left though, since he knew he needed to get going. And he wasn't going to keep her hanging around in the middle of the street either.

He was on his way home when he noticed an odd-looking shop he'd never seen before. He hesitated before he shook his head. No. Work first. Then, if he had time, he could come back and take a look. Not that he needed to, but he was rather curious. After he was done working, he promised himself he'd come back and take a look.

His heart beating, Beyck ran down the street. The letter he had stolen practically burned a hole in the pocket he had stuffed it in. It was a letter from Akira, not to him(he wished!) to Thomas. The thing was Beyck liked Akira, and it pained him to see her pine for someone who obviously didn't want anything to do with anyone.

Stealing the letter had been a rash decision. It really wasn't for selfish reasons, though it looked that way, but because he couldn't stand seeing the girl he loved dearly getting hurt. That's why he stole Akira's love letter to Thomas.

Looking ahead, Beyck saw none other than Thomas, the devil, walking towards home. There wasn't much of a chance Thomas would acknowledge Beyck (heck, nobody did) but he was feeling really paranoid, so he dove into the first shop he could get into.

A tinkling of bells and a smiling face greeted him. A guy in this really fancy looking chair was the one smiling. Beyck looked around warily. There was a bunch of random stuff around. What kind of store is this? he thought. Then the man stood.

The Hatter looked up, rather surprised when someone came dashing into his store in a hurry; it was cloudy, sure, but it wasn't raining yet, so what was the rush? He glanced out the window, seeing the boy Akira had been talking to walking by... Had this kid been running away from him?

"My goodness, I seem to be rather popular today!" He stood up and walked over to the boy, bowing to him politely and smiling invitingly as he led him to a seat at the table- it wouldn't do to simply leave a customer in the doorway. Then, pouring him a cup of tea, the Hatter took him in.
He was rather tall and scrawny looking, but there was an elegance in the paleness of his skin, and his grey eyes were piercing.... The Hatter recognized the desire that burned within them- another powerful wish..... And yet....
"Interesting..." This boy's wish was to find love, but he sought the heart of someone who had just left his shop with the intent of winning someone elses' affections.... "If I give this boy a watch.... Someone will lose...." He had to refrain a smirk at that. What did he care if someone lost? No matter what, he would always win. That was what made the game so fun.

"Regulars here call me the Hatter." He said, offering the cup he had poured earlier, "And of course I appreciate knowing the names of those I deal with, so tell me good sir... What is your name?" His mannerisms were very cordial and polite, but there was a deepness in his eyes that said he knew things....His gaze was riveting.

"Beyck Carter" answered Beyck. This whole situation was so weird. Who bows anymore? Maybe it's a prank, but...this guy would have to be a really good actor. Still...what kind of shop serves tea?

"Hmmm, an interesting name..." The Hatter took a seat across the table from the boy, eying him carefully as he continued, "Now, as much as I enjoy small talk, the look on your face seems to tell me you do not feel the same in this situation, so I shall cut to the chase." His gaze narrowed just a little bit, but his tone remained as cordial as ever. "You have a wish. And I can give you the means of making that wish come true. Are you interested?" He knew that the boy wouldn't believe him right off the bat, but he was interested at least; the Hatter was taking a different angle with this one, being very straightforward rather than leading the customer into it like he'd done earlier. The reason why was simple: he had leverage.
"Y'know... A girl just your age left my shop earlier...." He said nonchalantly after a pause, as if making conversation. Because of the rules of the watch, he couldn't directly mention Akira's name, but he hoped this boy would put one and one together. "She was talking to a rather handsome boy outside for awhile after...." He looked at the cieling thoughtfully, "With her new ablities, she should be able to win that boy's heart no problem...."

Beyck's heart beat a little faster. The odds were about a hundred to one that the Hatter was talking about Akira, but this strange person had something about him...in his eyes. Those enticing eyes held secrets. Beyck could tell he knew things, and his heart told him that the Hatter was referring to his darling Akira.

Then an arrow went through his heart. She had been talking to Thomas. The whole "wishes" thing sounded crazy, but he'd try anything to win Akira's heart, even if it did turn out to be a sham. And if it was true, she had received the same help for making her wish come true. With a sickening lurch of his stomach, Beyck winced away from the thought of what her wish was.

With a new desperation, Beyck looked determinedly at the Hatter, "I'm interested. So what's this all about?"
