The First Night

The Children's Room lay in disarray, three headphones had been broken within the Audio-Visuals Room, and the upstairs faucet was still spraying out oddly discolored water, but the staff still thought that today was a success. The Scottsdale Public Library had opened its doors to the public after three whole years of construction. Nearly the entire town had visited between the hours of 9-5. Most citizens had gotten their own library cards, checked out a handful of books, or simply just wandered around to marvel at the building.

Many of the people in Scottsdale had thought that the library would never be finished. The town had set aside funds for it years and years ago, but so many obstacles had gotten in the way of the building's completion. Accidents on the construction site, problems ordering books, sponsors suddenly withdrawing their donations - It was a miracle that the place was finally complete.

Room by room, the staff organized the bookshelves, flicked off the lights, and gathered up their personal belongings. By seven o'clock, even the Master Librarian had locked up his study and bid farewell to his co-workers. Together they each walked out to the parking lot and got into their cars, just as the cold autumn sun began to set over the nearby treetops. With one last look back at the library, each set off for their homes with thoughts of success, pride, and undeniable happiness.

Yet inside the building, several novels became anxious...

Rose let out a deep sigh standing against the bookshelf in a gardien stance. Almost like she were ready to attack anyone and anything. Looking around for a moment she wasn't really sure where she way. "I don't remeber Lissa going to the Library..." She paused and stepped away from her spot weeving around the shelves trying to find where she was. It was nighttime here which was her day, so it seemed rather oddly normal. "Anyone here?" Reaching into her pocket her hand wrapped around the stake she had almost expecting something to jump out and kill her. This so wasn't her book though. Nothing was described like this. There were no bookshelves lined with books, tacky carpets, and couches or tables. Even at school she never had seen something like this. There were bookshelves and at her school but it was always bright and filled with people. "Hmmm...this is just plain creepy." Rose stated muttering under her breath.

From a shelf high on the fiction section, a book shook and rattled out from between two hardly known fairy tail books. The book fell to the floor, landing on it's spine, and opened to the middle.
"What is this?" A male's voice echoed from inside the crickled stained pages. Smudged fingerprints of chocolate and dirt swept over the lettering on the page. From between the pages, a form began to push threw, a hand then an arm. A long haired man clad in leather and a fluffy sleaved shirt emerged from the inked pages.
Inigo looked around the area he had been brought into. It was dark and musty, but over all silence rang from the book shelves and the concreat walls. He began to explore, one row at a time and soon he just began to walk by and peer down the clean, neatly organized colums of literature.

Feeling his back against something harder than grass made him turn. What made him truly wake up was that he was sitting, not so much laying down. His body was upright, not laying down in the grass in the mountains near the Apple Press Farm or in the desert on his way to the Cloister. Liir woke with a start. He didn't know where he was. He hadn't planned for anything like this to happen. He looked around for the broom. Where is it? Where could it be? Did they take it while I was sleeping? Liir moved slowly as he looked around the small room he found himself in. All he could see from what small light that was coming in from a small window was that the room was full of books. Books. Where am I? Shiz? Liir couldn't hear anything, but he didn't want to encounter someone he didn't want to. Hiding in the shadows, he tried to hear any sounds coming from the other rooms.

Artemis opened his eyes with a start, he couldn't quite remember what had happened. Of course, as he lifted his hand to his aching head, he felt something warm and wet on the side of his head. Blood, of course, and now was not a time to panic. He sat up slowly and looked at his surroundings. He appeared to be in a library, bookcases nearly full of books all around him. Strange, he didn't remember entering a library in the past twenty minutes, but then, everything was a bit of a blur at the moment. He took a deep breath before he got up and dusted himself off, brushing dust of his navy blue Armani suit, fit for a young teenager such as himself. It was usually a very common look for him, after all, he was Artemis Fowl the Second, heir to a long line of criminal activity in his family. As he remembered it, he had changed his ways, if only slightly in the past two years. He looked around again, wondering where his bodyguard Butler was, and if any of his friends had also been transported to this strange place.

Inigo made his way out of the fiction room and into the visual-audio room across the hall. In the back of the room, chair were lined up facing the back wall where a screen was drapped from brackets on the ceiling. The room smelled of popcorn and sugary snacks which made Inigo's mouth water with it's alien scent. Children must have had a party here in the day hours but no one who came from the books would ever know. Behind Inigo was the bathroom, a lemony-pine smell reminded him of the forests he'd once walked back in the world he called home.
"This place, it is strange. I wonder if I am the only one who is here." Inigo said to nobody but himself.

The marsh's stars had suddenly grown dark. Puddleglum expected the night to drown out the landscape in shadows, but this was too much. A storm was probably coming, he thought. Or maybe death. Ah well, he'd make the best of it.

The marsh-wiggle took two steps forward and promptly felt himself falling. His webbed feet slipped out from underneath him, sending him tumbling into space. Yet before his brain could register the motion, he suddenly found himself face first on a carpeted floor! "Thhpp" he sputtered, removing lint from his mouth and sitting up.

In front of Puddleglum stood a rather odd figure, who clutched a sword and seemed to be looking around the room. 'He'll find me soon, I dare say,' he thought, 'and probably slice me up. But if my throat is cut off, at least I won't have to worry about this headache.'

"Hoy there!" He shouted at the figure. "Did the night eat you up too?"

Continuing to walk carefully Rose held the silver stake in her hands. It was blessed with the four elements. Earth air fire and water. Deadly to a strigoi, if stabbed through the heart. Rose was pretty used to that idea. After all, being a dhampire she was trained well. Along side with the fact her best friend Lissa had used spirit to bring her back to life. That meant she was shadow-kissed, she had crossed into the shadow world and come back. Now ghosts were on her side.

Looking around some more Rose heard voices. Her mind had been on Dimitry, (Her turned strigoi boyfriend, now back to being a dhampire, claming he can't love anymore.) and Adrian. (Her Moroi boyfriend she said she'd give a chance to when Dimitry turned strigoi.) Moroi are good vampires who don't kill, they sleep and eat, along with having one of the four elements. A select few have spirit, like Lissa and Adrian. Strigoi are evil, they kill their food and have an unnatral red color to their eyes. Mostly they are stronger, but can't go into the slightest bit of sunlight. Dhampires are the offspring of a Moroi and human or Dhampire. All of them go through training, like Rose, to protect Moroi.

Anyway, back outside of her mind Rose hid in the shadows and saw a being across the hallway in another room...it wasn't human or vampire. It seemed to be calling to someone. Walking up behind it she tapped it's arm holding her stake up ready to shove in its chest if need be. "Who are you?"

((There, now it's in the right one XP))

"KYYYYAAAAAAAA!" Peke yelled as she held her weapon out before her, eyes clentched shut. She had been fighting a new and particularly powerful EVO. There was no sound, nor was there an attack from which she was defending herself. Slowly opening her eyes, the neko girl relaxed her stance to see books, shelf after shelf of books. "W-where am I?" She said as her arms and awkward blade fell to her side. "M-master?" She then asked as she walked out of the aisle she was in, but Yamato wasn't there.

Looking up she saw a neatly written sign that said, 'FICTION', but she didn't know what it said; she was but a cat after all. Her brow furrowed slightly as she then said to herself, "This must be an EVO trick, I can't let my guard down." Keeping her blade ready she began walking down random isles though she saw no one. Worrying her lip slightly, her nearly black ears began flitting around, but she still couldn't sense the EVO she had been figthing. Relaxing back she then said to herself, "But if there's no EVO, then where am I?" It was at that point that a new thought came to mind, "And what about my collar?"

Back the rows she had come she heard something fall and instantly jumped back into a fighting stance. She was still in her fighting uniform, the purple swimsuit, a belt, and orange jacket; an outfit designed by her master Yamato. Slowly making her way back the rows she saw a familiar object laying on the ground; her collar. Quickly walking over she picked it up and placed it back around her neck. At least now she knew that others would be safe for now. "Now, time to see where I am and find Master," she said to herself as she began wandering through isles again.

Liir heard all of this noise coming from so close. He couldn't...no,he wouldn't leave the room until he knew where Elphaba's broom was. It can't be that far away. I was sleeping with it. His mind raced with what could be happening to Candle, to Trism, to Nor. Pull yourself together. Liir lightly slapped himself so that he would re-concentrate. Hiding in the shadows of the 'Fiction Room', unbeknowest to where he really was, he heard and saw some of the people yelling, whispering, fighting, and generally getting to know each other. Holding his knees, he did nothing more than sit and wait to find out where he was.

The voice of Puddlegloom broke Inigo's focus on his thoughts. He looked down at the humanoid-frog with unsurprised eyes. He'd seen rats the size of Saint Bernards so a creature like this wasn't really out of the ordinary to him.
"Has the night swallowed me?" He asked Puddlegloom in a low toned voice. His spaniard accent was thick but understandable. "Of this, I am not sure. I awoke to find myself between this place and what I used to call my home." Inigo put his sword in it's hulster at his hip. "And you my friend? Was it the night in which brought you here?"

Puddleglum looked to his left and then looked to his right. Noises began to filter in from around the building - He must not be as alone as he originally thought.

"Well," he mumbled as he stood up and brushed the dust off of his pants, "I suppose I must be dreaming all of this up. I don't know what all of you did, but it's time for me to go back to the marsh. Goodbye, I doubt that I will be dreaming about you again. That would be the worst nightmare of all."

With that, he turned around and walked straight into the bookshelf, hitting his head on the book ends and knocking himself back onto the ground. What a headache this would give him...

Puddleglum's attitude was taken as rude to Inigo. He didn't take much offence to it, but it was rude none the less. Inigo watched as the creature turned his back to him and ran face first into a row of over-sized books back in the other room just a few steps away. As Puddleglum's body hit the floor Inigo contained a slight laugh as it tickled the back of his throat.
"My friend, are you alright? To take a hit like that is to take a slap from the lady of irony!" Inigo's tone was sarcastic but smooth. He wondered if Puddleglum would catch on.

Rose just rolled her eyes. "I've been hit ten times harder than that. I've even been almost killed like twenty times. Do you know how many people want to kill me?" That puddleglum was probably her worst nightmare too. So he could join the club. Although this didn't seem like a dream, everyone was way to confused.

Artemis decided it was about time he stopped sitting around waiting for something to happen and he walked around. From the titles of the books around him, he surmised that he was in the fiction section of the library. Considering who he was, there was no way he would normally be in that section of any library. Though he took a deep breath and tried to understand what had happened. The last thing he remembered he was with Butler and Holly. Anyone else would call her Captain Short, after all her name was Holly Short. He sighed and walked through the library, still feeling a throbbing ache in his head, probably from where he'd hit it when he was brought into this place. The pain was enough to tell him he could not be dreaming, simply could not be dreaming. So when he heard voices talking about all this being a nightmare he walked into the room, not bothering to look at the signs. There was a strange creature laying on the floor and two other people who looked as though they also came from completely separate worlds. Or even, maybe they all came from different books.

It was most obviously a strange idea, the notion that all this was not real and that all these people came from books. Then what did that say for himself? If he too was in this strange dark library, that would simply have to mean that he too came from a book. He was only aware of a throbbing ache in his forehead and he reached up one more time, glad that the blood was no longer free flowing and what had leaked was now dry and caked on his head and even in his hair. That was not exactly a pleasant feeling. "I have a theory about this, as I highly doubt it's possible we are all dreaming the same dream." He said as he walked into the room, clearly announcing his presence to the three others, that is if the one laying down was conscious.

Liir sees someone walking around. He can't quite make out his face, but he can smell the blood coming from his body. Slowly walking out of the shadows, he walks next to him, ripping a small swatch from his shirt and offering to use it as a bandage to Artemis's head. "Are you okay? Did the guards do this to you?"

((sorry about the short post...I'm kinda stuck as to what my character would do at this point))
