Do You Want To Dance With The Dead?

That is what the letter you revived two days ago said. Those eight simple words, written in red ink on white paper. The letter was delivered in a red envelope, which was sealed with wax. The wax bore a crest- a set of angel wings. There was no return address. You may have thought that it was creepy, or just a stupid prank. But somewhere in your mind, you answered the question. You answered yes.

But the days go by, and gradually turn into weeks, and you forget about the letter. You forget, until your escort arrives.
Your escort is pale, and finely dressed, with lackluster hair, and no light in their eyes. They give you a dress or a suit to change into, then take you away to their palace, to dance with the dead.

They do not tell you why you must dance with the dead. But I know. All who dwell in this palace are deceased through some cruel twist of fate. None who stay in these halls are deserving of the fate they met. So we give them a second chance. A chance to live again, if they can gain the love of a living soul. A pure soul. But what good soul would dare to dance with the dead?

<3 ROLEPLAY OPEN

----------

Timmy sighed, staring up at the ceiling of his bedroom. He didn't have the lights on, but the drapes were open, and he could see that it was getting dark outside. Hopefully, that meant that guests would be arriving soon. Hopefully.
It was so stupid! Timmy had been living (or rather, haunting, seeing as he wasn't really alive anymore) in this stupid, fancy mansion for decades, even since his grandfather died, years and years ago. He had been living here alone.
It had eventually occurred to Timmy to sew up the gaping hole in his stomach, and now he was stuffed like a taxidermyed animal. He felt like that sometimes, too. Like he was nothing more than a dead thing gathering dust.
He wondered if anyone had heeded that invitation he had sent out. Timmy had made two sets, one for the living, and one for the dead. The dead got the details. The living didn't.
Timmy was an escort, though, so he should be leaving soon. For all he knew, he might be escorting every human that wanted to come to the dance; no one else had volunteered.
Timmy pulled himself out of the bed he didn't sleep in, and checked his reflection in the large, ornately framed mirror, that covered most of the south wall of his bedroom. He probably needed a shower.
After washing up, Timmy went to work making himself presentable. He had been clean-shaven when he died, and hadn't grown a hair on his face (or anywhere else) since, so he didn't have to worry about shaving. But he did his hair in the usual pompadour, enjoying the smell of pomade and the reminder of an earlier, simpler era. He wondered what to wear. Street clothes or a suit? Realizing that none of his suits had been pressed, he went with blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and his favorite leather jacket.
Finally, it was time to go. Timmy stepped out into the night, heading off to the place where he knew he would find miss Raven Tompson.

Raven sat comfortably in her old sweats watching Silent Hill on one of the Pay-per-View stations on her television, picking up her phone tiredly glancing at the time--it had gotten late. She then sprawled out on the couch as she went back to watching the movie. Pyramid Head had just come out, which always excited her.

Her phone rang, startling her--it was her Father, she answered, "Hey, Dad. How are you?" She paused listening, "That's not good, how much is it going to cost to fix." She paused to listen again, sighing at the bad news, "Yeah I can manage it Pops--I just want my Hearse back on the road--tired of riding my panhead to my night classes and work. I got rained on yesterday on my way to class--came in sopping wet the Professor almost sent me home." Pausing one final time, "Thanks Dad--I'll wire you the money in the morning. Love you and hope Mom feels better."

The phone call ended and she went back to watching her movie.

Timmy looked around. This neighborhood wasn't as nice as the one the mansion was in. Well, actually, that did depend on your opinion of what "nice" was. Some people wouldn't find a house full of the undead so pleasant. But it was fairly middle class. He went up to the house that belonged to Raven Tompson, wondering if he should knock. Should he have brought some flowers or something? No... after all, this wasn't any sort of date. Timmy wondered if she would even believe that he was dead. He didn't look very zombie-ish. Maybe he should show he his scar? No, that wouldn't be polite...

"Maybe I should just leave..." Timmy muttered to himself. But no... She wanted to go. And maybe she could save... Well, not Timmy, but someone. Timmy wasn't the only undead who didn't deserve what he got. He wasn't the only one who needed a second chance at life. And Raven Tompson was someone's second chance. He took in a deep breath and knocked.

"Yes, come on in, it's unlocked, " Raven called from the couch as she paused her movie, looking over at the door. She pulled her laptop quickly up on her laptop plunking in the information needed to send the money to her father-- not wanting to wait and not wanting to forget about it.

She quickly set her laptop back down and turned her attention back to the door, awaiting for the person outside of it to come in, she grabbed her set loaded revolver holding it in her hand firmly pointing it at the door way, then covering it with a large couch pillow.

Timmy paused for a moment before entering the room. It was not his custom to just walk into someone's house without them even bothering to answer the door. Not that he was passing judgement on Raven. He looked around a moment while his eyes adjusted to the light and found the girl he assumed was Raven. The first thing he noticed about her was her brilliant green eyes. She really was quite pretty. Timmy looked around the room and cleared his throat uncomfortably. "Raven Thompson?" He began.

Timmy sighed, and began again, remembering that he had to introduce himself as well. In fact, it would have been more polite to give his own name first. "My name is Timmy Taguchi. I am here because some of my... people sent you an invitation a while back, asking if you would like to attend a little soiree... A ball of sorts. And you expressed interest in it. Now, if you still would like to attend... Than I am here to escort you." He said, offering Raven his hand.

Raven blushed, setting the pillow and gun to the side, "Yes, that is me. I thought you were my ex--ignore the gun. Of course, I want to attend."

Raven got up tiredly the bruise at her throat showing, she was quick to cover it up, as she went about cleaning up the couch, " I'm sorry, I seem a bit off--a lot has been going on lately. I'm ready to go, if you are. I have been looking forward to it for quite some time--not knowing when the day would come kept me rather curious. There's not much a college student can look forward to--if they're not into parties full of drunken frat and sorority girls with loud rap, hip-hop, and drunken intercourse with a possible rape."

She went about grabbing her purse and keys, grabbing her electric cigarette, and then taking his hand, "Let's go."

Fredrick's private jet jad finally landed, he waited patiently to leave it's primises. After another Fifteen minutes he got into a taxi and headed onto the mansion in which the party was to be held. I would take him a while to arrive, hopefully Timmy would be there when he arrived. Until then, he would enjoy his ride across the new country side he had never seen before, seeing that Ireland had been all he had know up until now.

"Sir," he questioned the cab driver, getting his attention. "Do you know anything of this residence I am traveling to?"

"Well Mister, it's been empty for almost forty years. I'm unsure why you came from overseas to come here," the Cabbie responded.

"You see, it's opened up for a private party in which I was cordually invited to," Fredick grinned as he adjusted his dress coat and straightened out his kilt.

The rest of the mans trip was dead silent, which made things rather awkward for Fredrick, who returned to looking out the window as he took in the lovely country side.

Timmy sighed. "I brought you a dress. And... his eyes swept over Raven. I think it suits your coloring well, which is lucky. Would you... prefer to change here or there?" He looked down at his feet. "Unless you have something."

Timmy glanced out the window as he felt something that only he could feel. Someone was coming close to the mansion. An undead, like him. That was good. Someone else of his kind has responded to the invitation. Timmy wondered idly why he could sense this person's presence, but it didn't really matter much to him.

And someone else had responded. He would have to go pick them up as well, before briefing the new recruit. "Miss Raven, I am sorry if it is an inconvenience to you, but there has been... a slight change of plans. I was hoping to get you all settled in before I had to leave again but... How about you just change now, and I'll take you back to the mansion? That way I can explain everything to you and our new guest at the same time. And don't worry about the dress." He added. "It may look white in the bag, but it'll turn into whatever type you want it to. and fit like a glove at that.

Delilah stared at the photo that was sitting neatly atop her bed stand. She stared a long while, as if she were in another world.

"Mom... I'm coming." She said aloud, as if the photo was a real person rather than a still life image of the loved one she once knew. Her voice sounded odd in the dead silent house. The only other noise was the ticking of the clock that hung on the wall.

She glanced at it. 6:00 pm. The letter had said there was going to be an escort that would pick her up at 5:30. She was beginning to wonder if the letter had been a prank. It was awfully strange; an invitation without a return address... and of all things, it said "Do you want to dance with the dead?"

She must've been out of her mind when she circled yes, but this was the first time that she'd ever felt... felt this feeling of hope ever since the day her mother passed away.

When she'd saw that first question, she'd imagined her mother's thin, frail hands in hers, swinging and dancing and laughing in a grassy field as the sun shown down on them.

To dance with the dead... She thought.

"I'm sure the dress will be lovely, I'll change when we get there. If we need to go, I don't want to hold you up taking your time to change. Hopefully, the new comer will be one I can hold a decent conversation with," Raven spoke softly, her words like velvet as she reached over to her televisions console grabbing her make up box which also held most of her jewelry.

"I'll lock up, so we can go on our way. I have to notify my Brother so that he can house sit, so that the unruly bastard doesn't break in and take or break any.." She cut herself off, covering her mouth momentarily as she blushed hard. "I'm sorry, my ex has brought out the worst in me as of late. The man doesn't seem to understand that we've been separated for going on a year and that I want nothing to do with him. I've contacted the police multiple times, the only problem is his Uncles the Sheriff, so I've had to get a lawyer as of late last week and renew my gun license. Not that you really need to know that.."

Delilah felt her heart sink. Why hadn't she seen this before? A measly prank was all that letter was... and she had fell for it.

Her mother's death had made her into a weak and vulnerable person, but she didn't want to be. It's just... she'd lost the will to live on. Who was there to live for? What was there to fight for? She hadn't been able to answer that question. Each day just grew duller and duller.

She gave up waiting; she needed some fresh air before all those negative thoughts found there way back into her head.

She picked up the Shakespearean novel she was currently reading, Macbeth, and made her way to the front porch. She curled up onto the swinging chair and continued from where she left off.

The English was quite strange in Shakespeare's writings, but she found herself liking it, and strangely able to understand most of it.

The weather was gorgeous today. The sun was beating down on her with a slight breeze blowing in her hair. It calmed her as she closed her eyes and took it all in. For some reason, whenever the wind blew, she had a strange feeling as if her mother was trying to tell her something... but that's crazy talk. It was just her yearning for her mom that was making her think all these crazy things.

She shook the thought out of her head and continued reading, losing herself in the book.

Gray started to gel his hair into its usual style. His bang covering his left eye with the rest being pulled back into a small pony tail, but only for tonight. He had been waiteing for this night for awhile. While all the letters sent out to the living said "Do you want to dance with the dead?" all he could consentrate on was dnacing with the living. "what if she isent here tonight? it could take centruys for that one special person to show up." Gray started to pace the small room which he was currently in. He stopped looking to his left. A large mirror was hung on the wall. He looked himself up and down. Looking at the black suit which he had been given. It suited him well. "HAHA, what are you thinking Gray, which girlie wouldnt want you?" He looked himself up and down once more and started for the door. He has been dwelling in palace for too long. His killer was long dead by now but he was still here. he opened the door onto what he hoped would let him be free...

Timmy smiled apologetically, as if he were the one who had let something slip. "No worries. It's perfectly understandable in such a situation..." Although, to Timmy, it really wasn't. The way that people spoke nowadays was one of the many things that Timmy was still having some trouble adjusting too. But it wasn't all bad, and a lot of thing were a lot better. The way that people treated him was a lot better, but he was still cautious. Timmy couldn't help but wonder the same thing he always did; if he had been alive in this day and age, if this were his time, and he had shown his true self, would he still have been treated the way he once was? Would he still have been murdered?

"Alright, let's go." He said, making his way to his car, a cherry red '66 mustang he had inherited from his father. Timmy was happy to have this car, and happy that he had stocked up on spare parts while they still made them. Repairs would have been a hell of a lot more difficult if he hadn't. He moved around to the passenger side, holding the door open for Raven. He drove a little more quickly than he should have, and dropped Raven off at the mansion. "Go inside, and wait. One of my people is in there. He doesn't know everything, and what he can't tell you everything he does know, but he can get you settled and show you a place to change. Sorry I have to leave so suddenly." He apologized, and he meant it. With that, he sped away, heading to pick up miss Delilah Delarosa.

Gray wandered the halls of the mansion till he reached the grand hall. For years he had danced in this hall with countless girls. Never really feeling anything special towards any of them. His black shoes sweeped by the floor as we walked. The roof had amazing paintings of angels and of a hevanly place. Gray would often come and stare at the roof, wondering why he couldnt have gone there. "Hevanly Gods, please let her be here this year" he muttered under his breath. Gray started to walk towards the back door and to the garden.

The garden, it always made Gray smile. This garden was like no other, it had species of plants no one else knew about. But the best thing was a swing in the middle under a large cherry blossom tree. Each time the time came for the dead to dance with the living the tree would start to blossom. The swing was old, but strong. It's wooden seat was in great shape as Gray sat down. He started to swing slowly, not lifting his feet from the ground. He closed his eyes just for a moment only to be startled by a car driving away. "That must be Timmy leav...wait, he left early...someone is already here" Grays heart started to miss beats, he was getting nervous. would he or anyone else be able to leave this yearwitht the ability to live once more?

While she was reaching the climax of her novel, she heard a screeching noise in her driveway and looked up, startled. She hadn't even heard the car approach. It was a bright red mustang with a peculiar driver in the driver's seat. He was thin man with dark hair and dark eyes, but what was even more odd was his clothing, which she caught a glimpse of as he stepped out of the car. It wasn't what people usually wore in this day and age.

"Hi... can I help you with something?" She set her book down, got up from the swinging chair, and walked down the porch steps towards the man. Something was off about him, but she just couldn't quite tell what it was.

Timmy smiled pleasantly up at Delilah. "Miss Delilah Delarosa? My name is Timmy Takguchi. I'm here to escort you to the ball, the one you received an invitation to a few days ago. You expressed interest in attending. Of course, if I am mistaken, I will leave you be." He was glad his explanation seemed a little smoother this time.

His eyes searched Delilah, taking her in. She looked as though she might have been quite pretty once, but... something was off. Her eyes weren't as bright as the other girl's had been. Her hair was a lackluster brown, her lips pale and unsmiling. She almost looked like she could be an undead herself. But she was probably just lonely or sad. Being unhappy can change a person drastically... both on the surface and below it. But now Timmy was blushing, for he felt ashamed to have made assumptions.

She stared at the man for awhile, unable to respond. She didn't know what to feel. Excited? Happy? Anxious? She couldn't explain the feeling, but all she knew was that her stomach did an involuntary flip and the speed of her heart beat sped up. If it's all true, maybe I can actually see mother.

When she came to, she'd realized she'd been staring at the man for awhile. "Oh, um, yes, I did agree to that invitation..." She stammered, not used to human interaction. She usually just stayed in her house, avoiding people altogether.

She noticed the man looking her up and down and she quickly said, "I know I'm probably not really what you were expecting... I mean... this is a dance... right?" She tried to smooth out her hair as she looked down at her jeans and t-shirt. She never attended dances back in high school. Not even her own prom. The only reason she had accepted that letter was because there was a chance of her meeting her mom again. Looks could come later.

"Let me just grab my bag." She rushed back inside her house and pulled her beige messenger bag over her shoulder. After a quick once-over in the mirror, she finally realized how much of a toll her mother's death took on her. Her eyes were dull, her hair was messy, and overall, she just looked like a miserable person. And her outfit... she looked like she was a minimum-wage journalist.

She sighed, and shook her head, ignoring that fact. She had only one thing in mind right now, nothing else really mattered. She returned back to the man. "Do I need anything else, or can we go now?"

Raven got out of the mustang when they arrived, bid Timmy fair-well for the while, then climbed the short flight of starts up to the front door as she carried her things along with her being careful not to drop anything. She opened the door, headed inside, and had begun to look around curiously. ..And I though the outside was of this mansion was beautiful, she thought to herself as she stood in the door way. This is like a place from one of my dream's I had when I was younger, am I dreaming?

"Hello," she called softly. Rather afraid her voice would project, echo loudly, and disturb someone in one of nearby rooms that neighbored the large entrance hall. "I was told there was someone here to assist me in getting settled in and providing me with a private place to change."

She sighed, looking down she realized she hadn't even bothered to put on her slipper's, let alone gradded a pair of heels for tonight to go along with the dress she had brought in with her things. What the hell, am I really that off today? An old tank top, sweat pants and not even my house slipper's on my feet. You have got to be kidding me, I came into a pleasant place looking like a total bum. Thank the God's, I at least took a shower and put some deodorant on a few hours ago, she thought as herself doubted whether anyone would talk to her because of how much she felt like looked like a slob at the moment.

The taxi pulled up to the mansion where he noted a bare-footed woman who stood in the doorway in what looked to be her pajama's. He then noted a second person in the distance on what looked to be a swing attached to a blooming tree in some strange type of garden. He finally turned his attention back to the driver, paid the man handsomely, grabbed his things--got out, and closed the door behind himself as he continued forward. The cab drove off moment's later as he assended the mansion's front steps quitely. Once her completed his assention, he carefully brushed past the women who stood in the way, and continued to walk a few more feet before he finally set his luggage down beside himself.

He noticed once he set his things down that his right dress shoe have become untiedand he carefully bent down and tied his shoe. He then easied himself back up and leaned againt the wall he stood by, as he wanted to see what the women he had brushed past looked like. He looked out of the corner of his eye and felt his mouth break into a grin when he saw her face. She seemed to be rather flustered with herself about something, it bothered him slightly when he noticed the bruise around her throat. Why would someone ever want to harm this quiet beauty, he questioned quietly to himself.
