Don't Close Your Eyes
In a beautiful place...
Deep in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, a small village named Arinoma is tucked into a beautiful valley. A picturesque, quaint little town, no one would expect anything is wrong here...
They're going to have a story worth telling.
A grop of teens from all across the country have been invited to a Teen's Retreat that will be held in Arinoma. For six weeks the teens will all live together in the Mansion that overlooks the town, to enjoy the wonderful things the valley has to offer.
That is, if they return at all.
Unknown to the outside world, Arinoma has witnessed a string of brutal, violent murders. Bodies have been found decapitated all over the place, one even being found in the town square. But the few travelers that pass through wouldn't know about this at all. The townsfolk appear perfectly normal, if not a little bland...
But now it's up to them.
Our group of teens are faced with the biggest challenge of their young lives. Can they survive this horrorifying situation? Better yet, will they be able to stop it? That's up to you...
Things go bump in the night here.
----------
Story Thus Far
The teens have been invited to stay at the Arinoma Mansion for the summer. They are unaware of the murders that have been happening recently... and that once the doors shut, they may never leave again.
-----------
The Rules of the House
1. Follow Mene ToS. It's as simple as that.
2. Remember this number.
3. I am god. No ifs, ands, or buts.
4. No godmodding. That takes the fun out of the game. You're character enters this house totally unaware of what is going on- and therefore they cannot magically "find an exit" and save the day. Being in the mountains, there is no cell phone service, so there can be no calling for help. This isn't a fairytale, and there may be no happy ending.
5. Be respectful of the other characters. Never be rude to your fellow rp-ers, and if your character is an ass, then fine, but don't go overboard with it.
6. Please be semi-literate at least. Please try to have at least one good, solid paragraph per post- while the occasional one-liner is acceptable, make sure it is at least something someone can work with. (i.e. instead of "he sat" use "he sat across the room from her" so on and so forth.)
7.Send pm's to me- do not post them or things will get very messy very fast and you will be ignored. Title them "We Stare at Broken Clocks" so that I know you read the rules.
8. Remember that number? Put it in your profile as well.
9. I have the right to refuse service to anyone. I also have the right to add more rules as I feel necessary.
10. Fighting and romance is encouraged; lets be realistic, in a house full of teens things are bound to happen. But don't go over pg-13. No sex, in other words. If you're going to fight someone, make sure its okay with them, and for god's sake don't kill each other. That'll happen in due time.
11. If you get a "random" pm from me, don't be surprised.
12. If you wish to leave the rp, tell me and you can be the next person killed off. It just helps keep things clean and simple. Please DO NOT just up and leave; its slightly disheartening D: warn me in advance, I won't stop you.
13. I would like to keep this rp going to the end, so please try and post at least a few times a week. If you do not post within one week, I will pm you asking for a reason. If you do not reply or you're reason is not, well, reasonable (i.e. "Oh, I'm sorry. I totally forgot.") then you will be asked to leave.
14. Please, enjoy yourselves :)

The Guests
Hello, my name is: Jeremy Lindsey
I'm also known as: Jerry
I'm at my prime: He appears to be 19.
Looks can be decieving: Jeremy
Story of My Life: Jeremy hails from New York. He was born into a fairly middle-class family. His parents divorced when he was three; Jeremy lived with his father until he was old enough to move out. He's a high school graduate on his way to Harvard. His grandparents live in Arinoma, and got him an invitation to the retreat.
I'm not all that I seem: He's nice enough, but there's something odd about him. He likes to make sure everyone is comfortable.
Its important for you to know: He has a habit of disappearing. He doesn't even really spend a lot of time in the house; when you can find him, he's outside in the garden or something.
Parents are so overrated: Strawberry Kitkat
Hello, my name is: Son Ha-Neul
I'm also known as: I just go by Ha-Neul
I'm at my prime: 17
Looks can be decieving: Ha-Neul
Story of My Life: Ha-Neul is half-Korean, half-English. She grew up with her Korean mother, her father having skipped out of town shortly after Ha-Neul was conceived. The two immigrated to the USA when Ha-Neul was 7, in hopes of finding better lives. Her mother quickly found a good job, and was able to raise Ha-Neul and save a little money every month to send back to their Korean relatives.
Ha-Neul, however, did not have it so easy. She was teased mercilessly at school, and quickly became a quiet, introverted young lady. Her mother often worried about Ha-Neul, but there was nothing that she could do; she had to work long hours and could not give Ha-Neul the full support she needed. Ha-Neul quickly found an escape through art; she became even more quiet and withdrawn, barely paying attention to the world around her.
Fast forward to the present. Ha-Neul has just entered her Senior year of high school, friendless and absorbed in her own world. Her mother insisted that Ha-Neul come to the summer retreat, saying that it would be good for the young woman to get out and spend time with other people her age. While Ha-Neul dreads the idea, she would do anything to see her mother happy, so the young lady packs her bags for the summer...
I'm not all that I seem: Ha-Neul is extremely quiet and shy, but not at all mean. She will help those who needs help, and once you break past her barriers she's actually an extremely nice girl. Awkward in social situations, Ha-Neul prefers to spend time in a windowed alcove, drawing and listening to music.
Its important for you to know: Ha-Neul wears glasses sometimes. She also wears a lot of white. Her eyes are a weird blue-green color, a gift inhereted from her English father.

Story of My Life: It would be a lie to say that Linette had a storybook family. Her father walked out at a young age, so that she barely remembers him. Her mother, who should have been taking care of her, was hardly ever home, especially when she got older and "could take care of herself". As a result she became independent and self-sufficient.
I'm not all that I seem: A mellow, independent girl who speaks only when she feels it's necessary for her to do so. People have pinned her down to be snotty but that's just not the case. However, she's not very trusting, especially adults. Her life of being let down has caused this.
Its important for you to know: Nettle carries around a bag with knitting needles and yarn. It's a stress reliever she's had for awhile.

Hello, my name is: Avery Vade Black
I'm also known as: Ava, Ave, Neon
I'm at my prime: 17
Looks can be deceiving: Avery
Story of My Life: Avery was born in Myrtle Beach, North Carolina. Her parents were both from Germany. She doesn't remember much for when she was young; except the fac tthat her mother died in child birth and her father abandoned her brother and her at an orphanage. Being brother and sister, they refused to be split into different homes, and when that was suggested they caused enough havoc to put it out of the question. Being raised most of the time in an orphanage, Avery grew independent and a bit slow to trust others.
Now to future. Avery and her brother moved out of the orphanage when he turned 18 a year ago. They moved to California, there was a "vacation" sweepstakes gave away. Her friends entered her brother and her into the giveaway, and by chance they won.
I'm not all that I seem: Though Avery had a rough childhood, to say the least, she is still friendly and optimistic. She's independent and is cautious around new people for fear of being hurt and abandoned, but she's still caring and kind. Music and photography are her two biggest passions, and they are what kept her going while in foster care. She has a short temper and is not afraid to fight back, and she sticks up for people and helps them when needed. She hates showing vulnerability, but once you get close to her that changes.
Its important for you to know: Avery is a great fighter, she learned it in foster care from some of the other kids. Her eyes are a mysterious violet color and she has a few scars on her body from bad foster homes.
Parents are so overrated: musikfreakx
Hello, my name is: Mason Kade Black
I'm also known as: Just Mason
I'm at my prime: 19
Looks can be decieving: Mason
Story of My Life: Mason, who was also born in Myrtle Beach, North Carolina, never grew up in a picture perfect home with a picture perfect family. The first two years were good, but after that it seemed to spiral downwards. His mother died when his sister was born, and that makes him very protective over her, and his father abandoned them at the local orphanage. When people tried to split his sister and him up, they'd cause trouble until they knew they wouldn't be split. Most of Mason's kid years were spent at the "Home", and a group of friends put him in a giveaway with his sister. Surprisingly, they won.
I'm not all that I seem: Mason is hardened on the outside and is very protective over his sister. He's wary around new people, but once you get close to him, or when he decides that you're OK, you'll see he's actually a pretty friendly guy. He's loyal to friends and caring to most, but if you make him angry it would be wise to back off. He won't start a fight, but he'll definitely fight back if you start one with him. If you mess with his sister it's even worse. However, he's very fun to be with and loves to make others laugh.
Its important for you to know: Mason formed a band with a few of his friends a while back in California. He's the lead vocalist as well as a guitar player, and he has a huge weak spot for music.

Since then Sophiya's Family have been moving around alot and it seemed like the retreat was a good idea, so she went for it.
I'm not all that I seem: Sophiya is a very shy person but if you get her talking to you, she wont stop. Sophiya hates being lied to and double crossed. She is very weird with her food, because she likes chocolate and ice cream separately, but hates chocolate ice cream.
Its important for you to know: Sophiya owns about 20+ swords and always has at least one hidden on her at any given time.

Story of My Life: Satou Kouki was born to parents Chou and Hotaka, two Japanese immigrants living in America. As a result, Kouki was raised with an almost paranoid desire to succeed, garnered from his parents. However, an incredible amount of stress was placed on him as he was growing up -- he was always pressured to do the absolute best at everything he tried. As a result, Kouki has become more or less a sociopath; to the outside eye, it would seem that Kouki had no emotions at all.
I'm not all that I seem: Kouki is a sociopath, and every option is carefully calculated by logic alone. Many decisions that Kouki makes are by simple process of which will benefit him more -- be it allies or weapons, Kouki carefully analyzes each option before he takes a position. However, due to this attitude, Kouki often takes risks that other people would refrain from doing; like physically or mentally harming someone that is interfering with his goals, no matter how insignificant.

Ha-Neul sighed and brushed dark brown hair out of her eyes, staring up at the big mansion. It was a perfectly bright, sunny day, but for some reason she felt cold. Maybe it was the higher elevation. She looked over her shoulder and felt her stomach sink as the taxi drove away- there was really no going back home now.
She picked up her suitcase and trudged up the stairs, wrinkling her nose a little so that her glasses stayed in place. She looked around, frowning; it was just her luck that she would be the first person here. "Watch it not even be the right place...." she murmured softly, knocking on the door. She waited a moment, and then the door swung open, a tall, handsome boy standing in the entry way.
"Um, hi," she said, her voice small. "I'm here for the, ah, retreat...?"
"Right, great," the boy said, smiling at her. "Come on in, I'm Jeremy."
Ha-Neul silently followed him in; he led her past a windind staircase and down a hall, into a wide sitting room. Light flowed in through the many windows, casting a ghostly light over the room.
"You can wait here until the others arrive," Jeremy said, indicating the room with a wide sweep of his hand. "Holler if you need anything." She watched him walk away, a worried expression on her face. She waited until the door was closed, then went straight to one of the window seats, taking a seat and staring out. She could see the road from here, as well as the little village deeper in the valley. She placed one small, pale hand against the glass, feeling homesick already.

Linette's taxi passed another as she arrived at the place of the retreat, she looked back, watching as it drove away. When they stopped she stepped out, gathered her suitcase, and looked around. She then took a small breath to calm her nerves and continued to the door, taking her time. A bag hung nonchalantly from her shoulder and she wheeled her suitcase behind her. Nettle, as she liked to call herself, paused before the door and looked back again, this time to watch her ride leave, then to get a better look at where she was staying. The village area was picturesque and she smiled a little. It'd be fun to discover the odds and ends of the place. She felt a slight apprehension about how perfect the town seemed, but she shrugged it off and lifted a hand to knock on the door.

Jeremy pulled the door open as soon as the girl knocked, peeking out and then grinning as he opened the door wider.
"Hi, are you here for the retreat?" he asked. "Of course you are, come on in." He held the door open wider for her, a friendly smile on his face.
Ha-Neul looked up as she heard a knock and then the muted sound of someone talking, and drew her legs up, staring nervously at the doorway. She tucked some of her dark brown hair behind one ear, feeling a little silly at the apprehension that curled into her stomach. She shook her head, then reached down and pulled her sketchpad out of her small messenger bag, fishing a pencil out as well. She decided to draw the landscape outside the window; it would help calm her, as well as keep her preoccupied.

Linette titled her head slightly. She hadn't expected someone to open the door so quickly. She smiled and nodded.
"Ah, hello" Linette spoke briefly before stepping inside. Once again, she was looking around her. To someone else viewing her it might have looked odd but Linette was of a curious nature. "I'm Linette..." She trailed off as she said her name, then paused to look at Jeremy. "Nettle for short.." She smiled slightly, Nettle was only a letter shorter then her actual name, but she preferred it. It didn't make her think of how her mother said her name, or of her mother at all.

"Nice to meet you, Nettle," Jeremy said. "I'm sure you'll have a great time here. Come on this way to the sitting room, we'll wait for everyone to get here before we work out where everyone will be staying." He turned and led her through the hall and into the sitting room, where Ha-Neul was sitting at the window, her head bent over a sketchbook. "Ha-Neul?" The young girl jumped, looking up at them with wide sea blue eyes. "This is Nettle. Nettle, Ha-Neul. I'll leave you two to your introductions; I have some stuff I have to clean up." With that, he was gone, leaving the two to their own devices.
Ha-Neul watched Nettle with wide eyes, curiously studying the other girl. She chewed on her lip, unsure of what to say.

"If you'd rather continue sketching, that's fine. I've brought knitting stuff for myself. We can work on artsy stuff together." She chuckled a little and opened her bag so that various colors of yarn were showing, along with knitting needles.

"Hello, Nettle," Ha-Neul said in her soft voice. Her eyes dropped down to the colorful yarn, her expression curious. Now is the time to take chances, she thought. She knew no one here, and they didn't know her- maybe she could fit in. "I-Is knitting hard," she asked, forcing herself to speak. She had never really been in a social situation like this before; she didn't know exactly what she was supposed to do.

"Oh...I guess it can be." She looked questioningly at her bag. "When starting...but it's fun. And relaxing." Nettle frowned in thought. "You know...I'm not even sure I do it right. I didn't really have anyway to learn besides experimenting." She looked back up, realizing she was talking quite a lot, considering she usually was quiet. And so Nettle decided to take her thoughts away from something that distracted her as much as knitting. "So, did you just get here too?" She smiled at Ha-Neul, noticing that she seemed a little uncomfortable with talking.

Ha-Neul nodded, leaning back against the wall. "Yeah," she said softly. "I almost didn't come, but.... This place is weird," she said, before she could stop herself. She blinked, then blushed and looked out the window. This talking thing wasn't exactly her best friend at the moment, but she had to admit that it was better then staring at a tree.

Nettle's smile faded into a frown. Ha-Neul was certainly right. Some was strange about this place. She'd felt it outside, but had brushed off, hoping it was just nerves. She looked out the window for a moment. "I guess we'll know more about this place once we're able to look around..." She bit the inside of her cheek at a troubling thought. 'Maybe they wouldn't find out more then they knew, or maybe they wouldn't like what they found. ' Nettle shook her head. 'Positive thoughts Nettle. Positive thoughts.' She urged herself to take a breath. She smiled a bit at Ha-Neul, hoping her apprehension didn't show.

"Maybe," Ha-Neul agreed quietly, gazing out the window. She looked back at Nettle and smiled back; she felt a little better knowing she wasn't the only one who didn't like the feel of this place. "I wonder where everyone else is," she wondered aloud, pressing her hand to the cool glass. "So far as I know, its only you, me, and Jeremy." Speaking of, she wondered where he was. He had been an odd one, too, but she couldn't really place a finger on what bothered her about him.

Avery opened the door to the taxi and stepped out, passing a wad of money back through the driver side window. She nodded at the driver and made her way to the back, opening up the trunk and pulling out her bags. She brushed back her black hair, waiting for her brother to get out of the car.
Mason stepped out of the taxi cab after his sister. He rolled his eyes as she paid, slightly annoyed. "I told you I would pay for it," he told her, as he followed her behind the car. He pulled out his own bags, just a plain black suitcase and the same colored duffel bag. He shook his head, shaking off the exhaustion from the car ride. His dark brown/black hair swished a bit.
"I got it!" Avery threw back to her brother and laughed, making her way to the door.
Mason playfully growled at his younger sister, following her to the house.

Jeremy made his way back through the house, checking on the two in the sitting room. "Hey, ladies, we have more company," he said pleasantly, before going to the door.
Ha-Neul looked up at Jeremy, a small frown on her lips. She wasn't sure if she was happy about more people showing up or not, but she would decide that later. She really didn't want to end up alone with Jeremy anyways.
Jeremy pulled open the door as the two came up the steps, peering out at them. "Oh, hi," he said, grinning at them. "Are you guys here for the retreat?

Avery jumped a bit when the door was opened as she reached for it. She laughed aloud and then smiled at the boy who opened the door. He had blond hair and a slim face; pretty good looking. "Hi, yeah, we are," she said to him. "I'm Avery, that's Mason, my brother," she told him, introducing themselves. She stuck her hand in front of her for him to shake. She always came off as friendly, and she was, but that didn't mean she wasn't wary. She just figured she might as well be friendly; she'd be here for a while.
Mason laughed at his sister as she jumped back. "And you are?" he asked, an eyebrow raised. He smiled back, watching as his sister happily introduced them. He glanced at the house; it was pretty nice. Then again, most houses were nice compared to the fact that they lived in an apartment. In his mind he wondered how many others were there, and a small part of him wondered how many were girls. He shook off the thought; he didn't need to be thinking about that right now.

"Nice to meet you, Avery and Mason. I'm Jeremy. Why don't you come on in? You can meet the other two." He held the door open for them, then led them down the hallway and to the sitting room where he had left the two girls.
Ha-Neul forced herself to keep her face perfectly blank as Jeremy came in with the two new residents. One was a girl around her age, with startling violet eyes. The other was an older boy, the family resemblance obvious.
"You two make yourselves comfortable, I've got to finish setting things up," Jeremy told them, before disappearing. Ha-Neul watched him go, then fixed the two with her gaze, looking them over.
"Hi," she said softly, the word almost a question.

Nettle looked over at Ha-Neul as the two entered, then back at the two. She shifted in her seat a little, then closed her bag. She nodded at them. "Hello." She added a greeting to Ha-Neul's, before looking at the door. 'Why was everyone being led to this particular room?' Nettle shifted again, fixing a small frown on her face as she stared at the door. She sighed and focused her attention back onto the room.

Avery followed Jeremy. "OK, thanks," she said as she walked into the room. Her eyebrows crinkled in confusion and she frowned slightly as he left the room. She was a bit suspicious, but she didn't know if that was just because there was something odd about him, or if it was just her past getting to her. She pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind and set her bags down. She stood in her spot, looking at the girls. A smile spread over her face until her violet eyes sparkled. "Hi, I'm Avery," she said, walking over to an empty couch. She gave a small wave to the girls.
Mason entered the room, still wary around Jeremy. He had a feeling that there was something weird about him, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions. He put his bag down beside his sister's and continued walking into the room. He sat down on the arm of the couch she was sitting on. "And I'm her brother, Mason," he said, and smiled at the two. Avery elbowed him in the back and he punched her arm lightly.

"I'm Ha-Neul," the girl said, tucking her legs under her on the window seat. It was kind of chilly in the room; she chafed her bare legs with one pale hand. She tried to think of something to say, but kept coming up blank. She really wasn't good at this social business. "Um.... where are you guys from," she asked, her voice timid.

"North Carolina," Mason finished for his sister. He looked at the other girl, the one who hadn't introduced her. She looked a bit... worried. Maybe it was just the new place, but he decided to keep his thoughts to himself. He turned his attention back to Ha-Neul and smiled at her, giving her a nod as she introduced herself.

"Nettle, that's pretty cool," Mason said, smiling at both of the girls. "I wonder where they control the temperature then. Weird place," he said, glancing around the room again. He ran a hand through his dark hair and gave another smile.
Avery elbowed her brother, raising an eyebrow at him to get him to stop flirting. He rolled his eyes back at her. "North Carolina... Well. It was pretty. The weather was pretty good.
